Dear Parents, Welcome Mr Matt Gandy Grade 5/6 teacher, Ms Antoinette Camenzuli Grade 3/4 teach-er and Mr Tom Kearney who will be here for most of the term replacing teachers on leave. It’s a BOY! Congratulations to Ricky and Ashlea Potter who become parents after the safe delivery of their baby son Mason born Tuesday 15 July. We look for-ward to meeting the new Potter mem-ber soon. Parent Opinion Survey Each year the Department make a random selection of parents to re-ceive a survey to complete about the school. This is an opportunity for you to make comment about many as-pects of this school. The survey is anonymous and not opened by the school, but rather sent to an inde-pendent company to be processed. The survey will be distributed on Monday 28 July, and we ask that if you receive a survey, please complete it and return it to the school in the en-velope provided. The results of the survey are provided to the school in October and will help us to plan fu-ture improvements. Semester One Absences Below is a summary of the student at-tendance for Semester 1 2014. It is concerning that our P-2 students are having such large absences. This is

a crucial stage of their learning and every day counts. Let’s see if we can work towards decreasing the number of absences from this area of the school in semester two. Well done to Room 1, 21, 19 and 7 with an average of 4 days or less off school.

community is now available in the State Register on the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority’s website: http://www.vrqa.vic.gov.au/StateRegister/Search.aspx/Search?SearchType=0. The annual report is a key legislative and regulato-ry requirement, but it is also is an important way to keep our school community informed about how we are performing and what is being done to improve the learning, engagement and wellbeing of our students. Providing information about our school in this for-mat helps the community to become involved and engaged in discussions about the school and how further improvements can be supported. I encour-age you to have a look at our report. 2015 enrolments Do you have a child who will turn 5 by April 30
next year? If so the child is eligible to start school and now is the time to enrol. Please contact the school on 9366 2071 so that an enrolment pack-age can be sent home and to make an appointment to meet with me to discuss your child’s start to school life. We will be conducting an orientation program at the beginning of term 4 so it is important to enrol now so that we can include your child in this pro-gram.

INTERSCHOOL SPORT
On the last day of Term 2, our Mixed Netball team participated in the final of Interschool
Sport against St Albans Heights PS. The game was really exciting and at the start of the
last quarter we were leading by 3 goals. St Albans Meadows played well in the last quarter
and were getting closer to our score. Our players did not give up and when the final siren
rang, we were 1 goal ahead. The score was East 13 and St Albans Heights 12. We WON. It
was a fantastic effort from everyone. Congratulations to the team which consisted of
Shalom, Laurita, Kyle, Vi, Nayana, Leon, Surafel, Manisha and Ashley. The team now is now
preparing to play in the next round of the finals, which will be against St Theresa’s PS in
Albion. The match will be held on Friday, July 25th at St Theresa’s.
Education Maintenance Allowance
Period 2 Application for the second half of the Education Maintenance Allowance is due from the first day of Term 3.
If you claimed for the first half at this school and your circumstances have not changed, you do not need to fill out an ap-
plication form for the second half. You will automatically be included in the second payment.
If your circumstances have changed and you no longer receive a Pension or Health Care Card, you must notify the school.
NEW PARENTS:
If your child has transferred here from another school during the first half of the year, you will be required to reapply for
the second instalment at this school.
If the following applies to you, you may be eligible to claim the second half of the EMA:
Are you the holder of a Health Care Card or Pension card? Does your card have a validity date which covers the first day of
term 3, ie. July 14, 2014? If so, you are entitled to claim for the Education Maintenance Allowance. The closing date for
applications is Friday 1 August, 2014.
To apply, please fill in an application form available from the School Office. Please bring your Health Care card/Pension
card for us to copy.
ADVANCE NOTICE
EMA TO CEASE END OF 2014
The school has received advice from the DEECD that EMA (Education Maintenance
Allowance) will cease to be available from 31 December, 2014.
EMA was a payment made to parents holding a Health Care Card or Pensioner
Concession Card. The payment was paid for students up to the age of 16.
Many parents used EMA to assist with paying for educational items including school
charges, school books and uniform.
Parents should be aware that EMA will NOT be available in 2015.
Student Wellbeing at St. Albans East Primary School
Good oral health is important for good general health and wellbeing for children. It allows children to eat, speak, socialise and learn without pain or discomfort. Tooth decay is bad news. It can cause your child pain, and lead to ongoing
problems. You can help your child develop strong, healthy teeth by encouraging tooth-friendly eating and drinking and by making sure their teeth are cleaned twice a day.
