When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I did not understand the assignment, and I told them they did not understand life. John Lennon # We had our annual information evening for new grade 8 to 11 learners Tuesday evening. There was a vibe of enthusiasm and anticipation among the prospective grade 8s, who will be our biggest group ever. The irony of life was highlighted by the fact the current grade sevens, at the top of the primary school food chain (similar to our matrics) are ready to start their high school careers at the bottom of the pecking order. We hope they all will have lots of fun during the next five years. Congratulations to every learner and teacher who was part of our annual (p)Articipate gala evening last Thursday. You defied the heat wave and seized this opportunity to use your talents. Another salute to every learner who received an accolade during our annual prize-giving function last Monday – refer to the recipients of the top awards later in this circular. Your last opportunity to have Coffee-with-Carel this year is on Thursday, 7 November at 07:30. During this meeting in the staffroom, we get to chat informally about the school. Please notify Ms Debbi Westwood at [email protected] if you would like to attend. I hope to see many of you there. Tonight we have our last night school for the year. Enjoy the break from normal school routine on Friday. All sport and cultural activities are slowly but surely ending and hopefully the learners have started preparing for their final exams. With the year speeding to an end, I would like to highlight the following words from Mark Twain: Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you did not do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour and catch the trade winds in your sails. NOVEMBER EXAMINATION ARRANGEMENTS Kindly take note of the following arrangements:

Learners are to be at the exam venue 30 minutes before the session starts.

Normal school rules (which includes appearance) apply during the exam.

Learners will only be excused from a paper due to serious illness, in which case a medical certificate must be handed to Mr Swart as soon as possible.

Learners may not be in possession of any notes, a cell phone or a smart watch.

There will be a final assembly in the hall on Monday, 25 November at 07:30. Attendance of this assembly is compulsory. Learners will write their exam papers directly afterwards.

If you would like your child to study under our supervision at school, you are requested to inform Ms Cheryl Grant by e-mail ([email protected]) by Thursday, 7 November.

2020 E-BOOKS The e-book list has been posted on the website. E-book purchases can only be done after 25 November.

2020 STATIONERY & HARD COPY TEXTBOOKS A friendly reminder that the website for ordering the above has closed. Stationery and hard copy books that have been ordered can be collected from school (in the G-block) on Monday, 4 November from 07:00 to 19:00. The website will re-open on 5 November for parents who have not yet placed their orders. These parents will receive an e-mail from the bookshop regarding the collection thereof.

2020 TIMETABLES All learners’ timetables will be available for collection in the quad on Tuesday, 14 January 2020 between 12:00 and 13:00. We would like to sort out all timetable problems that day so that we can start the year on 15 January without having to spend time on timetable issues. Please ensure that your child collects his/her timetable on the 14th.

Culture This year’s culture activities culminated in the gala-evenings of (p)Articipate. Almost 90 learners participated in these two-hour long pageants. Thank you to everyone who attended. (p)Articipate 2019 was once again a huge success. The following learners were adjudicated as winners:
