A review of the engineering challenges associated with helicopter design will be presented by Graham Pay. Graham will draw on his experience at AgustaWestland to provide examples of the diverse and demanding roles that only a helicopter can perform. The lecture will also discuss some of the technologies that are involved, their limitations and what new developments will drive the future capabilities of these impressive machines. Graham Pay enjoyed a 25 year career as an Air Engineer Officer in the Fleet Air Arm including an unusual appointment in the late 1980s to the British Defence Staff in the British Embassy in Washington DC as the helicopter and gas turbine specialist for all three UK Armed Forces. Following his naval career Graham worked at a senior level in the UK aerospace industry. Coming up – Fukushima Incident (21 st October 2015).
