Welcome to the

KCC Guided Tour(Cra f t exh ib i t ion a rea

and Hanok exper ience)02 03

Hanok, Korean traditional House, remained relatively unchanged from the Three Kingdoms period through the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).

Hanok was built without using any nails and assembled with wooden pegs. Ondol, a floor-based heating system, and Maru, a cool wooden-floor style hall were devised to help Koreans survive the frigid winters and most humid summers. Also, upper-class houses consisted of a number of separated structures, one for the accommodation of women and children(anchae), one for men of the family and guests(sarangchae), and another for servants(haengrangchae). A family ancestral shrine(sadang) was built behind the house.

The Korean Cultural Centre Australia (KCC) was established on the 4th of April, 2011 right in the heart of the Sydney CBD. The KCC is lucky to be situated in such a convenient location where we can be connected with many art/culture lovers in Sydney. The KCC aims to encourage cultural exchange between Australia and Korea and provide quality Korean cultural experiences to the public. In the KCC, students will experience Korean culture through cultural activities, including traditional games and other exciting cultural programs.

O-nu-ri is a cheerful fable about fate and obsession based on a mythical story on Jeju island. O-nu-ri lived with a big crane and cintamani near the Won-cheon Lake. One day, O-nu-ri got kidnapped by strangers and found herself on a mysterious island. O-nu-ri is now taking a journey with cintamani to go back to Won-cheon Lake. What will she confront and will she be able to go back to her place?

On a bright spring afternoon, Mong-hee, a high school student, can’t hang out with his friends because he has to go to private classes. After dozing off on the bus, he finds a wallet that someone left on the seat next to him. Meanwhile, two foxes wandering around for food come down to Hogok village, and transform into an old woman and a young girl to lure and prey on people. What will happen to Mong-hee and the two foxes?

Heo Saengwon is an ageing market vendor. He has been a peddler all his life. After a long day at the marketplace in Bongpyeong village, he follows his fellow peddler Jo Seondal into an inn where he meets a young itinerant vendor, Dong-yi. As the three accompany each other under the moonlight along the buckwheat flowers, Heo Saengwon realizes he has a special bond with Dong-yi.

Lucked Out, derived from the story written by Hyeon Jin-geon, contains the harsh reality of the 1940s in Korea. Rickshaw puller Mr. Kim represents the exhausted life of the working class in the Japanese colonial period. The story begins with Mr.Kim leaving his ailing wife at home and it seems as if good fortune continues to follow him throughout the day. Little does he know the tragic turn the day will take…

He has lived with Jeom-soon’s family and done all work around her house for 3 years and 7 months. He wants to get married with Jeom-soon but her father, Bong-phil does not approve of their marriage until she is fully grown. Bong-phil and his soon to be son-in-law have issues prior to marriage which is portrayed realistically and humorously in this animated tale.

A suspicious old woman clothed in a black veil comes into a village and all of sudden, heavy rain falls. The next day, the same phenomenon occurs again with the appearance of the old woman wearing the black veil. Realise that the old woman is actually a wanted criminal from the police, and now the village is in horror.
