School-Community Council Partners with Library to Help Parents

In an effort to engage parents outside of the school day or the school setting, the School-Community Council Social and Emotional Learning Team has partnered with the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library to start the Parent Opportunities Program (POP). POP offers parents learning opportunities within each of the library branches and is open to anyone. The pilot program will help train library staff, agency staff, EVSC staff and parents. Although schools continually offer "tech" events for families, POP is an opportunity to reach parents who are unable to attend those events or who are not comfortable in a school setting. The topic of the first POP will cover how parents can access their student's EdEase account and the netbooks. Upcoming POP events include:

Tuesday, January 15, 3:30 p.m. at Central Library Thursday, January 24, 3:30 p.m. at McCullough Library Wednesday, January 30, 6 p.m. at Oaklyn Library Friday, February 22, 10 a.m. at North Park Library Wednesday, February 27, 2:30 p.m. at Stringtown Library Saturday, March 9, 11 a.m. at East Branch Library Tuesday, March 12, 4 p.m. at West Branch Library Wednesday, March 20, 6 p.m. at Red Bank Library

If you have questions about POP, please call Anita Hays at 435-8343.
