WELCOME BACK

Welcome back! We have had a very smooth start to what promises to be a very busy term. We also extend a warm welcome to all of our new students and their families ~ we are confident you will enjoy being a part of the Osborne School Community. TIQBIZ

Most parents now have tiqbiz installed as an app on their mobile phones. tiqbiz is a fantastic communication method between school and home and has many uses. The most important feature is that it gives us the ability to get important messages to parents instantly. We have already found this to be very useful and feedback from the parents is that they are enjoying having the app. If you don’t have tiqbiz, you can download it and an information sheet is available from the school office if you would like to have it. ANNUAL REPORT

Each year every school in Western Australia is required to produce an Annual Report. The Annual Report summarises the operations of the school over the previous 12 months, commenting on the success (or otherwise) of programs within the school. It highlights activities that have taken place and begins to set the scene for the following year. If you would like a copy of the Osborne Primary School Annual Report, these are available at the School Office.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU WISH TO LODGE A COMPLAINT

As a parent, you may from time-to-time disagree with something that has occurred at the school

and as a result would like to state your feelings in the matter. The correct procedures to do so are outlined as follows:

1. Classroom Issues If your complaint relates to something that has occurred in the classroom, raise the issue with your child’s classroom teacher. Usually a discussion with the teacher reaches a suitable outcome, but if you feel this has not been achieved you should then take the matter further and speak to Mr Lasscock (Principal) or Mrs Stasev (Deputy Principal).

2. General Issues If your complaint is about a school issue you may also discuss it with your child’s classroom teacher, or go directly to Mr Lasscock or Mrs Stasev.

We recognise that the education of your child is shared between home and school … and when problems arise we must at all times endeavour to work together, so that the best interests of all concerned is realised. At Osborne Primary we have a transparency policy with regard to all our procedures and operations.

KINDY CLASS REPORT

What a busy start to term three learning about community helpers! We have been looking at Police Officers, Quilters, Queens and Restaurant workers and the importance of them in our community. We will be continuing our focus on the alphabet letters. We have had our first school library visit and began telling News. Don’t forget to bring your library book and library bag back each week so we can swap the books.

PRE PRIMARY REPORT

What a wonderful start to Term 3 for our Pre-Primary students. We would like to welcome Ms Payton, who is a student Education Assistant, and she’ll be helping us in Room 10 over the next three weeks. This term we are extremely excited to work once a week with our Chaplin Mel to complete the Buz program. This program will help our Pre-Primary students to develop important life skills, which include: ♦ believing in themselves ♦ handling their feelings ♦ making and keeping friends ♦ co-operating with others ♦ fostering respect ♦ resolving conflict.

We continue to develop an enjoyment for literacy through shared reading and modelled writing, and in Maths we are learning about mass and capacity in our measurement sessions.

YEAR 1 CLASS REPORT

Welcome back ~ another 6 months to go! Every child in the

class can now read and write … we have done it! Fantastic effort, parents. In Science the children are close to finishing off the Biology topic on Dinosaurs. In the school hallway the children have written a Narrative about a Dinosaur that they have drawn and painted. Please come for a walk and have a look.

In Mathematics the children are learning to count to 100. They still need a lot of support to see number patterns of 2, 5 and 10 in larger numbers to 100.

Take note that the timetable has changed for this term. There will be Sport on Monday afternoons from 2-3pm. Please dress your children in a yellow or red T-shirt for them to practise in their school faction colours. There is also cross-country running on Tuesday and Friday mornings. Kindly ask your child if there is anything they need in class such as glue sticks, writing pencils, etc. An individual detailed note was sent home last term but not every child has had their items replenished.

YEAR 2 CLASS REPORT

Welcome back everyone! We hope you had a restful break? This term we have two new girls who have fitted in really well! This Term, Miss Sugden’s theme is Food and we have already discussed Healthy Eating at recess time. Ms Lane was at a Math training course last

Wednesday and has some great ideas to aid our classroom learning as well as new math games! The most exciting development is practising for our Class Assembly in week 4 on Wednesday, 10 August and you are all invited! It will be jam-packed with items showcasing your children’s talents! More news about that soon.

YEAR 3 CLASS REPORT

Welcome to Term 3! The children have had a well-deserved break and are now back to working hard again. In English, we have been looking at Long and

Short Vowels and have played some simple board games associated with these. It has been a lot of fun. We have also started looking at writing Factual Reports and in the next week will start writing our own report on an Australian animal.

In Mathematics, we have been learning about different types of graphs and tables and how to interpret the information on them. We are also doing a lot of work on our Times Tables and will have weekly tests to see how well we can remember them.

Every Friday afternoon the Year 3 class will join with the Year 4 class to practise our team games for the Faction Athletics Carnival. It is important that the children wear correct running shoes or joggers on this day. Just a reminder that our library day is Tuesday and homework is due each Friday.

YEAR 4 CLASS REPORT

Some of the Year 4s have planted their broad bean seed which they grew in a cup in Science last term. Those seeds that survived going home over the holidays are now growing in the garden , with extra help from our Worm Wee and compost which Conrad, our gardener, dug into the soil. Hopefully we will get some broad bean pods later in the term. In Maths we are looking at fractions, equivalent fractions and decimals. We are also researching an early explorer in the computer lab and on the Ipads and we will present our work to the class in an oral talk over the next few weeks.

YEAR 5/6 CLASS REPORT

We have had a great start to Term 3. We have already had our School Captain and Student Council elections for Semester Two, and our Faction Captains and Vice-Captains have also been elected. Training for the Faction Athletics Carnival is well under way.

In class we have had lots of fun looking at poetry … in particular, we are studying Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll, as well as Pioneers and Clancy of the Overflow by Banjo Paterson. Very soon we will be having a go at writing our own poems!

We will also share literature from our favourite Australian authors with the rest of the class and hopefully inspire each other to read, read and read!

SPORTS NEWS

Welcome to Term 3! The children have already started practising for the Faction Athletics Carnival which will be held on Thursday, 1 September. Some children will also be selected to compete in the long jump and distance throws on Tuesday, 30 August. By now, all the children from Pre-Primary to Year 6 should know their faction. If you are unsure which faction your child is in, please ask their class teacher. As well as training for the athletics carnival during the regular sport times, the classes will partake in extra practise with their class teachers. The Year 1 and 2 classes will practise on Monday afternoons and the Years 3 to 6 on Fridays. It is important that your child wear running shoes or joggers on these days as well as having a water bottle. Running Club After a wet start to Term 3, our running club is back again! All parents and students are very welcome to come along each Thursday morning, commencing at 8.15. Children from PP to Year

6, who attend running club this term will earn points for their faction. So come along and have some fun with your friends … and earn some points for your faction! Thank you Allison McAuliffe

FROM THE MUSIC ROOM

Term 3 is choir term! With only five weeks to go until the Massed Choir Concert on Saturday 03 September. The Osborne Primary choir are working hard to make sure they give their best performance. Please encourage your children to sing their choir songs at home. Practise is very important and singing is good for everyone! On Wednesday 10 August we will meet with the other schools who will be performing with us for our first joint rehearsal. Notes about the excursion will go home next week. Tickets go on sale online Monday 01 August. All information about tickets is in the note that went home with your child on Wednesday. Keep up the great work, Osborne Primary Choir!

P&C NEWS

Hello and welcome back to Term 3 of our school year. We finished last term with a very successful Election Day sausage sizzle and cake stall. With the combined efforts of our school parent bakers, sausage sizzle volunteers and P&C we raised $1,125. This amazing amount will be used to continue supporting programmes and events of our brilliant school. Coming up in the future are our P&C morning teas which are held after each student assembly. The next student assembly will be the Year 2s on Wednesday 10 August. We provide the cup of coffee or tea and a few very yummy nibbles so please stay and chat after the assembly. It is a great way to meet other school parents, as well as some of the P&C members.

Our Nature Playspace has had some new plants added over the last month as well as some new features for the children to explore. The new plants are small and can we ask that everyone takes extra care of the plants while they are establishing themselves. This will help avoid the need to replant more in the future. Please note, we have a supply of recycled uniform available which can be purchased after student assemblies. Carole Shaw & Sarah Aitken
