Message from the Principal
Hi Everyone
Class List Organisation for 2019
The class structure for 2019 dictates that we will run
26 classes. Most will be straight level classes, with at
least one 1/2, one 3/4 and one 5/6 multi-age class.
Grade lists will also soon be created, with many factors
taken into account. The student’s social grouping, ac-
ademic needs and abilities, opportunity to develop ex-
tra responsibilities and the development of children’s
emotional resilience all play a part in the decision
making process.
You may have some information or concerns regarding
your child’s placement. (Note that this input should
not take the form of requesting a particular teacher).
However, if there is the possibility that your child may
be placed with a teacher for the 3rd time, this infor-
mation is relevant.
The relative importance of each depends on each indi-
vidual child. Hence teachers will give a different
weighting in order to maximise the benefits of a child’s
educational setting.
Please do not go directly to your current child’s teach-
er. Rather, contact Kylie Fisher or Glenn Storr before
Friday 2nd November either by phone or in writing so
that your concerns can be included in the decision
making process. Also, if your children will not be at-
tending Montrose in 2019 please let the office know as
soon as possible.
Please note the change to the student free day which
will now be held on Monday 12th November.
Good luck to the students heading out to the State
Chess Finals tomorrow!

VALUE OF THE WEEK Assertiveness
What is it?
Courage is doing things even when they are scary or very difficult.
When we make a mistake, courage helps us to have another go.
Sometimes, we let fear stop us from achieving the things that are important to us. Courage gives us strength and helps us do the things
that are right for us to do.

Canteen News It was another busy week in the canteen last week. Moosies were extremely popular and with the hotter weather on Friday, we had so many children at the window that we needed to set-up
an extra service area in the hall foyer to clear the crowd.
On Friday, we had a special visitor pop in to say hello. Colin, our crossing supervisor, popped in
during lunch time for quick visit to see what happens down at the canteen.
MENU ITEM CHANGE - POPCORN
I have just been advised that our popcorn is no longer being manufactured. We are trying a new line of popcorn which will be available from this week in both Cheese and Salt & Vinegar fla-
vours at the same price of $1.40.
BUTTER POPCORN CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE
At the moment, we can’t get any butter popcorn. We are hoping to have the butter flavour
available again soon.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
I have a couple of Fridays between now and the end of the year where I need fill in helpers. If you have always wanted to spend a day in the canteen and would like to offer your help on a Friday in Term 4, please come and see me on a Wednesday or Friday or text me on 0428 380
432. No previous experience is required, just a working with children’s check and a smile :-)
Canteen Volunteer Thank you
A BIG thank you to Jaci Caccia and Di Reynolds for helping in the canteen on Wednesday and to Shona Jalowicki, Lesley Miller, Tierney Hamilton and Chloe Cairney for their help on Friday. A
special mention to Megan Salem, Di Reynolds & Lyn Kelly for all chipping in to replace
AMANDA :-)

You Can Do It
The Key for Success in Term 4 is Confidence. The habits of mind that go with the Confidence Key are: Working
independently, Taking risks in your work and Accepting yourself.
Our YCDI Award winners for this week are:
Jenson C, 3B
I’m always on the lookout for students who are keen to have a go and participate in lessons, giving their best effort in every task. In 3B, I don’t need to look any further than Jenson Campbell. He is routinely attentive and focused, and I can always rest assured that he will work hard at every task. He hasn’t got a lazy bone in his body! Congratulations, Jenson, on your confident approach to learning!
Travis W, 4S
This legend from 4S has shown time and time again that confidence is everything. And while he still has a way to go, his confidence is growing every day. From competing in Hooptime and almost making the Grand Final, to participating in not one but soon to be three, athletics carnivals this year (yes that’s right he made it to Regionals!)
Aside from his sporting confidence this student has shown confidence in his learning too. He takes risks with his writing, attempts Maths problems on his own and his reading has improved too.
Travis, you are an absolute star! Congratulations.
Max V, 5M
This young man continues to display all the right stuff. His self-belief continues to grow, and as a result, so does his willingness to take risks in his work. This risk taking has seen him produce work that he can be proud to put his name to. Perhaps the most pleasing part of his self brief, is when he uses that to peer teach and help out his classmates. We all benefit from Max being apart of 5M. Well done Max Vanderkolk, you legend!

Well Done! Grace Pearce
Australian Transplant Games Former student Grace Pearce recently competed in the Australian Transplant Games in Queens-land. Grace really enjoyed participating in the Games and being amongst other transplant re-cipients. One of her favourite Games experiences was the street parade, where she met so many lovely people and carried the Victorian Banner. She also thoroughly enjoyed the Ninja Warrior event as all child recipients and child supports were able to participate, and they all had a lot of fun together (picture of Grace and her siblings). It is great see the competitors en-joying life, staying fit and making the most out of the gift of life. These were her results: Tennis singles and doubles—Gold Athletics Gold in Long Jump, High Jump and ball throw (new games records in all three). Silver in 100m sprint and shot put. Ten pin bowling – Gold Ninja Warrior - Bronze Lorraine McLeod Memorial Trophy – This trophy is awarded for spirited and sporting participation in women’s tennis. This award is named in memory of Lorraine McLeod who loved her tennis and the Games. The Games are very inclusive, allowing recipients supporters to compete in selected events. Grace’s 3 siblings, Acacia, Amy and Henry competed in supporter events also had great success. Acaica – 1st ball throw and ten pin bowling, 2nd long jump and 100m Amy – 1st 100m and ten pin bowling 2nd long jump 3rd in ball throw Henry – 1st in relay 2nd in 100m and ten pin bowling Well done Grace, Amy and Henry!
