The municipality of Pavlikeni issituated in the North Central Regionof the country. It occupies the westcentral part of the Veliko Tarnovodistrict. The municipalityencompasses the towns of Pavlikeni

and Byala Cherkva and 19 villages.32 645 people live in themunicipality.

The hilly type of some settlements,the environment and the interesting

natural sights in the municipality areprerequisites for the development oftourism. There is already anorganization for village tourism.There exists numerous terrains forthe construction of tourist bases.

Traces of the pre-historic man's presence (late Paleolithic age - 40 000-14 000

B.C.) were discovered on the municipality's territory.

In the regions of the volcanic formations (the hills by the villages of Varbovka andBoutovo), west of Pavlikeni, several ceramic centres came into existence duringthe Thracian-Roman period. The unique for the Balkan Peninsula antique ceramic

centre, which existed from c.3 to c.5 A.D., is situated 4 km to the west ofPavlikeni.

The Pavlikeni region of today was included in the territory of the ancient town ofNikopolis ad Istrum, the latter being founded in 106 by Emperor Traqianus inhonour of his victory over the Daci. The new town soon established itself as asocial, economic end cultural centre within the Roman Province of Lower Mysia.

For a very short period of time, the town ofPavlikeni, situated in the fertile valley of the Rossitsa

River, got ahead of the neighbouring villages andbecame a district centre.

In 1919/1920 Pencho Penev and StoyanUzunov contributed for opening a newmodern school in Pavlikeni.

The new school opened its doors in October,

1920 with two classes, which had 63studensts both.In the next years the school progressed andthe number of students increased.

During the period 1938- 1945 the school isnamed "Princess Maria Luisa".

Bacho Kiro is one of the most importantand famous personality in our history. Hewas not only a teacher, who involved thepeople from the area in the National

Revival. His speeches, poetry reveals hispatriotism: the conception that not onlythe weapon but also words will help thenational fights.

From 1946 tonowadays theschool is called

"Bacho Kiro"."Bacho Kiro".
