Florence-Carlton school district offers sophomores the opportunity to take the ACT PLAN
Test, which serves as a midpoint measure of academic progress in ACT’s College and Career
Readiness System. The ACT PLAN Test is a great way to prepare for the ACT. The optional
test will be administered March 20, 2014 to participating students.
The ACT PLAN Test:
Lets you know if you are on track for college.
Points out your academic strengths and areas you need to improve on.
Gives you an estimated score (not a guarantee) of how you are likely to do if you take the
ACT as an 11th or 12th grader and keep working hard.
Helps you find careers that match your interests.
Connects you with more colleges interested in you.
Helps educators take a close look at student skills and knowledge and identify gaps in the
curriculum.
The ACT PLAN Test includes:
Tests in English, Math, Reading and Science; just like the ACT.
A career exploration component that stimulates students’ thinking about future plans and
relates personal characteristics to career options.
A guide that explains what your scores mean and how you can use them.
Participation:
Test Date: Thursday, March 20, 2014
In order to participate, students need to bring the fee of $12.95 to Mrs. Williams no later
than Tuesday, March 11, 2014. Make checks payable to Florence-Carlton School District.
Please be aware that if the cost of the exam is a hardship in any way there are funds to
help with this. Please speak with Mrs. Williams if you are in need of assistance.

Disney or Bust! A LOT has been going on since I last checked in with the Falcon View. If you haven’t already heard, the HS Band is embarking on its 3rd trip to California (2006, 2010 and now 2014)! We leave March 28 and return April 2. It will be chock-full of music, fun and life experiences students will remember as among their finest HS moments. Stu-dents will get to enjoy a joint clinic with the Roy, Utah HS Band, a day at the beach (some seeing the ocean for the very first time), 2 days exploring Disneyland and Califor-nia Adventure Land, one live performance for a worldly audience, a recording session in a real music studio and an evening with the Blue Man Group. It’s truly a fantastic trip! In preparation for this trip, much fundraising has been going on. In December, we had our annual fruit drive – YUM! On January 17, students practiced the night away (some were there the full 12 hours!) with sponsorships from loved ones near and far, as well as local businesses and community members. The night was very successful, both musical-ly and financially. Currently we are selling our annual City Brew Coffee. (Please refer to the separate article for specific info and thank yous.) We’ve had bake sales galore (2nd Wednesday of every month) and we’ve spent countless hours working concessions throughout the year. The students are really getting excited about the trip! Our music is coming along and all plans are finalized. Our last fundraiser will actually provide the community with an opportunity to hear our performance before we go. On Monday, March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day!) from 6-8 pm in the old gym, come have a spaghetti dinner and hear the band play. Look for details elsewhere in this Falcon View. If you see a band student, wish them well as they head off on this grand adventure! If you have personally helped a band student reach their financial goals to make this trip possible, thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
3rd Annual Music Department Coffee Sale FALCON JAVA
Contact any band member or Mrs. Kirby for your 12oz bag of fresh beans or ground cof-
fee. It comes from City Brew, a local Montana Company based out of Billings, and is
fairly traded coffee. $10 per bag, no limit! Funds raised will go towards the cost of the
band member’s travels to Disney (2014 for High School students, 2018 for Middle
School Students).
Community businesses have been very generous for this fundraiser. Peregrine Spon-
sors: Farmer’s State Bank, Florence-Carlton Community Church, Vemco Inc. and
Berard Family Chiropractic. Falco Sponsors: Carl Shepp - DDS MS, Morgenroth Mu-
sic, Big Creek Family Medicine & Urgent Care, Bitterroot Body & Paint, Eastside Den-
tal Clinic, Florence Family Medicine, Florence Therapy & Wellness, Gary & Leo’s
Fresh Foods, Lolo Family Practice, Majestic Bus Inc, NorthWestern Energy, PayneWest
Insurance – Bitterroot and Ravalli County Electric Co-op. Falconer Sponsors: Lolo
Days Inn & Suites, Ward C. Wenholz, Sharp’s Auto Repair & Towing, Finlay Lumber
and Willow Mountain Veterinary Hospital. Each business has sponsored Falcon Java
allowing their contributions to go toward offsetting the cost of the coffee. This allows
music students to maximize their income from the selling of the individual coffee
bags. 2014 has been the best sponsor year in history! Please take time to thank & uti-
lize these businesses!
High School Band Corner
The Middle School Parent Association has been work-
ing hard to raise funds for a number of school related
needs. Thanks to all of our funding raising efforts in-
cluding cookie dough sales, concessions at sporting
events, middle school dances, and selling amusement
books, we have been able to purchase a density flow
model for the science room, a javelin for track and we
were able to help significantly with the 8th grade trip to
Silverwood and promotion. We would like to thank all
the parents and students for all your funding raising
efforts. Please join us at our next meeting on Monday,
March 10th, 6:30 in the school library.

Testing Schedule for the Spring Students in grades 3-8 will not be taking the state standardized tests (CRTs) in Reading and Math this spring. Montana was granted a testing waiver in order to avoid double-testing of Montana students this school year and to allow schools to smoothly transition to the new statewide assessment, the Smarter Balanced Assessment, in 2015. Students in grades 4, 8, and 10 will take the Science CRT in March. Middle school Science CRTs are set for March 5th, 6th, and 8th. In April, students in grades 3-8 will take the Smarter Bal-anced Assessment Field Test for English/Language Arts and Math. For more information on Smarter Balanced, you can visit www.smarterbalanced.org. Please feel free to contact test coordinator, Alli Bristow at 273 – 0587 ext. 306 for further questions.
