High Achiever SCHOLARSHIP
Students who have an outstanding academic record and can demonstrate excellence in two or more areas of endeavour are invited to apply for the High Achiever Scholarship. Areas of endeavour might include a specific academic subject, sport, the arts, design, leadership or community service.The Scholarship recipient will demonstrate a willingness to actively contribute to School life through the academic, pastoral, spiritual and broad range of co-curricular programs St Michael’s has to offer. The High Achiever Scholarship is open to current and new students looking to enter Years 5 to 10 in 2020.
Students are required to sit the Academic Scholarship examination.
The High Achiever Scholarship offers part remission on tuition fees and is tenable until the end of Year 12.
* Families may choose to nominate to have their financial means considered in the application process. Preference will be given to students who, for financial or other reasons, cannot attend or continue their studies at St Michael’s Grammar School.
THE SCHOLARSHIP OFFER
Criteria for awarding
scholarship
The High Achiever Scholarship is awarded to student/s entering Years 5 to 10 in 2020.
The Scholars will be individuals who:
• demonstrateoutstandingtalentintwoormoreofthefollowing:o particularacademicsubject/so sporting endeavouro thearts(music,performance,fineart,media)o design(communications,technology,industrial)o leadershipandcommunityservice
• demonstrateoutstandingacademicpotentialandacademicperformance• sharetheSchool’svaluesofDignity,Respect,CareandCompassion• willembracetheSchool’scultureofcontributingcitizenshipandreciprocity• willgainfromandengagewiththediverserangeofprogramsofferedbytheSchool• willcontributepositivelytotheSchoolandthebroadercommunity.
Specific application criteria:
1. Applicantswillsubmita300to500wordautobiographicalessayindicatingtheirspecialtalents/interestsandthecontributiontheywouldmaketothelifeoftheSchool.
2. ApplicantswillsupporttheirapplicationwithtwowrittenreferencesoutliningtheirsuitabilityfortheHighAchiever Scholarship at the School.
3. ApplicantswillscoreresultsbetweenStanine7-9inalloftheSchool’sAcademicScholarshipexaminationcategories,withacombinedAptitudeandAchievementof70%orabove.
4. Applicantswillshowstrongandconsistentresultsintheirlearning(viadocumentedSchoolReports,NAPLANand/orstandardisedtestresults).
5. Ifthefamilyhasnominatedtohavetheirfinancialmeansconsidered,applicantswillprovideastatementoffinancialpositionaspartoftheapplicationprocess.Priortoascholarshipofferbeingmade,short-listedapplicantswillneedtoprovidefurtherfinancialsupportingdocumentationtosatisfythemeans-testingcriteriasetbytheSchool.
6. Theapplicantwilldemonstrateexceptionaltalentsintwoormoreareasofspecialisation(seelistbelow).Applicantswillberequiredtoprovideevidence,aspartoftheirsupportingdocumentation.Candidatesmayberequiredtoperformanauditionorsubmitaportfolioofworkdependingontheirtalents.
TheStMichael’sGrammarSchoolScholarshipProgramoperatessubjecttotheSchool’sScholarshipPolicy. Scholarships areawardedatthediscretionoftheHeadoftheSchool,andtheScholarshipholderissubjecttoalltermsandconditionofenrolment.

Sport
• Applicantsmustbecompetingatnationallevelinonesportingactivityorstatelevelintwosporting activities(teamorindividual).
Art, Media or Design
• Applicantsmustdisplayademonstratedpassionfortheirspecifiedareaoftalentasevidencedby aportfolioofwork
• Aportfolioshouldcontainacompilationofmaterialsthatexemplifiesthecandidate’sskillsandtalents• Portfolioshouldinclude8-11piecesofwork,withaprojectname,shortdescription/outline,andsizeand
materialsused,ifnecessary.
Language Arts/Communications
• Applicantswillbeadebater,publicspeakerand/orspokenwordpoetwhohasrepresentedtheirschool orcommunity,whereopportunitiesexist
• Applicantsmayberequiredtoperformanaudition.
Drama
• Applicantsmustshowademonstratedpassionforthedramaticarts,whichmayincludeparticipationinthe AMEB,orofficiallyrecognisedprograms,andperformanceexperienceatthestudent’scurrentschool
• Applicantsmayberequiredtoperformanaudition.
Music
• ApplicantsmusthavecompletedthefollowingAMEBGradesorequivalent:o AMEBGrade6(orequivalent)oraboveforpianoo AMEBGrade6(orequivalent)oraboveforviolino AMEBGrade3(orequivalent)oraboveforotherstringinstruments,flute,clarinetandsaxophoneo AMEBGrade3(orequivalent)oraboveforallotherwindandbrassinstruments
• Applicantswillberequiredtoperformanaudition.
Leadership and/or Community Service
• Applicantswillbeabletoprovideevidenceofadevelopingorsustainedcommitmenttocommunityserviceinitiativesororganisationsintheirschool,localorglobalcommunity.
Costs covered by the scholarship
Grantedtocoverpartremissionoftuitionfeesonly.Awardrangebetween25%and75%oftuitionfees.
Costs not covered by the scholarship
Alladditionalandassociatedcostswhichpertaintothestudent’seducation.
Role of the School TheSchoolwillprovideplacestoscholarshiprecipientsatagreeddiscountrate.Thescholarshipofferisnotnegotiable.
TheSchoolwilladvertisethescholarshipopportunitytoprospectivestudents,short-listapplicationsandawardscholarships.
