Similar to a snake’s skin, with Boa the parquet is designed with carefully-shaped scale-like elements that guarantee distinctive accents – available for:

Oak Beech steamed Black Walnut Merbau

Linea emphasises the wood’s structure along its longitudinal axis and brings the floor to life by creating an impression of depth – available for:

Oak Beech steamed Black Walnut Merbau

S E g A

With Sega, the transverse alignment of the se-lected wood type is subtly emphasised, allowing the structure to come to the fore – available for:

2-sided or 4-sided bevel (no image)

With the 4-sided bevel surface structure, the parquet elements are given bevelled edges on all four sides, which allows the structure of the individual elements in the overall arrangement to stand out. With the 2-sided bevel surface structure, the bevelled edges are only

on the two longitudinal sides, creating interesting effects and empha-sising individual elements in a subtle manner. Both surface structures are available for all types of wood.

Exquisite looks and a healthy environmentHardwood floors have been tried and tested for centuries, their optical and environmental advantages having made them the first flooring choice for many homeowners. The combination of unique style, warm radiance and lasting beauty is another convincing argu-ment for choosing a hardwood floor.

Natural and healthy living environment with parquetTo keep your exclusive hardwood floor at its best please read the following advice before installing it:

• One of the natural characteristics of wood is that it is hygrosco-pic, meaning that wood adapts to the moisture content of its en-vironment. This process is commonly known as the swelling and shrinkage of the wood. If the air humidity exceeds % (in the summer months) or falls below % (during the heating season) the boards may undergo noticeable changes in dimension (gaps in the heating season and cupping in summer).

Hardwood floors

• The parquet is supplied with a moisture content of 7 % ± 2 %. These figures of 7 % ± 2 % are meant for air humidity from 40 to 60 % and a room temperature kept at a constant 18–24 °C. This room climate not only protects your wood floor but also enhan-ces your comfort and health. We recommend using an air humi-difier during the heating season and an air dehumidifier or short airing at high air humidity to maintain this optimum climate.

• Wood is a natural product and may show differences in colour and structure – for these reasons we will not accept complaints. Before installation you must ensure that the parquet planks have no defects. We will not accept any claims for installed floors.

To keep your hardwood floor at its best you should make sure that the room temperature is kept at a constant 18°–24 °C and the air humidity at approx. 40–60 %. This room climate not only protects your wood floor but also enhances your comfort and health. In or-der to maintain this optimum room climate we recommend using an air humidifier (heating season) in cases of low air humidity. If the air humidity is too high you should either use a dehumidifier or air the rooms by fully opening the windows for a short period of time.

Darkening and colour changesWood is a natural material and thus reacts to daylight by darkening or changing its colour over time. These changes have a positive effect on your Scheucher Parkett® floor: they intensify the original colour of the wood and enhance its natural character. The most distinct colour changes usually occur during the first weeks after installation.

The surface of your wooden floor – the so-called wear layer – is made exclusively from selected wood. Wood species differ in hardness, which is measured in Brinell. The higher the Brinell value the harder the wood and the more wear the floor can take.

Start the installation of your Scheucher Parkett® floorwith flawless preparationRegardless of whether you choose a glue-down or a floating instal-lation, optimal preparation is the best basis for an expertly-installed hardwood floor! Scheucher Parkett® is not suited for installation in high moisture areas. We recommend consulting an expert for pro-per installation.

Suitable subfloorsCement and anhydrite screeds, mastic asphalt, V100 particleboard.

Subfloor requirementsThe subfloor must be flat, dry, clean and sound*.

Flatness Flatness can best be measured using a straight edge and a feeler gauge. Irregularities must be evened out prior to installation (maxi-mum of 3 mm per 1,000 mm of length).

The soundness (for glue-down installation)The soundness of the subfloor is tested using a grid scratch tester or a steel nail. The subfloor is firm if the edges of the scratches remain sharp. Insufficiently firm subfloors are suitable for floating installa-tion only.

Preparing for installation

The moisture The moisture of the subfloor is determined and recorded using a CM measuring instrument.Residual moisture content for cement screeds: max. 2.0 % CMfor underfloor heating: max. 1.8 % CMResidual moisture content for anhydrite screeds: max. 0.5 % CMfor underfloor heating: max. 0.3 % CMExtend the drying time in the case of higher moisture values.

Make sure that the subfloor is clean by carrying out a visual inspection for oil and paint stains, cracks etc. For glue-down instal-lation cracks must be filled with epoxy resin, and paint, plaster and mortar residues must be scraped off. Oil and grease stains must be removed by sanding. Planks should be laid lengthways, in the direc-tion of the main light source. In long and narrow rooms (e. g. halls) the planks should always be laid lengthways. If the room width exceeds 8 meters, an additional expansion gap must be provided in the case of floating installation.

Please observe our installation tips• Read the installation instructions carefully before starting in-

stallation.• unpack Scheucher Parkett® planks only immediately prior

to installation! Please note that the installation temperature must be at least 18 °C and humidity below 65 %.

• The subfloor must be dry, level and clean.• In order to protect your valuable wood floor from rising

damp, we recommend covering the subfloor with a non-ag-eing 0.2 mm PE film for floating installation. The film sheets should be lapped 20 cm and raised along the edges.

• In new buildings the windows should be kept slightly open for some weeks prior to installation. Heat and ventilate room regularly during interseasonal periods and in winter.

• All work involving water or moisture (tiling, painting, wallpa-pering, plastering) should be completed prior to installation.

• Seal the terrace door area to prevent moisture from penetra-ting from outside.

• Do not store the packaged Scheucher Parkett® planks on freshly laid screeds! Supporting blocks must be used!

• Store the packages, the underlay and the glue in the installa-tion area. The room temperature should be at least 18 °C.

• Be sure to inspect the planks for defects prior to installation. No complaints can be accepted in reference to floors that

have already been installed.

Floating installationLay commercially available soundproofing mat, e.g. PuR foam, cor-rugated cardboard or similar, on subfloor. This will make the floor resilient and quiet to walk on.

1. Begin installation in the right-hand corner of the room. The first row of planks is laid with the groove toward the wall. It is im-portant to use approx. 15 mm thick spacers to ensure an even expansion space between the plank and wall.

2. Align the first row of planks and also place spacers on both ends of the row.

3. Start the second row of planks with the cut-off end of the first row. The end joints must be staggered by at least 40 cm.

4. Apply a continuous bead of glue along the length and at the ends of the planks. Glue is applied on the upper lip of the groo-ve. use the tapping block to join the planks.

5. The last row of planks is trimmed taking into account the expan-sion gap between plank and wall and glued to the last but one row. A pull bar will help to pull the planks tightly together. Do not forget the spacer wedges in the last row.

6. Once the glue has dried, the spacer wedges can be removed and the expansion gap covered with a suitable moulding.

glue-down installationWe recommend leaving glue-down installation to an expert. If you decide to lay the floor yourself, please observe the preparation in-structions and our installation tips. Depending on the condition of the subfloor, pretreatment (primers, coatings) according to the manufacturer’s instructions may be necessary. The firmness of the screed must be sufficiently high. use only adhesives that are spe-cifically recommended for glue-down installation of prefinished hardwood floors. Please observe the instructions from the adhesive manufacturer

Installation instructions multilayer parquet, tongue & groove

1. Begin installation in the righthand corner of the room. The first row of planks is aligned with the grooved edge towards the wall. Check using a string line for long distances.

2. Leave an expansion space of approx. 10 mm between the floor and the wall.

3. use a notched trowel to spread adhesive only on the area where the next planks are to be laid according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Do not exceed the working time of the adhesive.

4. Place the floor planks onto the adhesive bed. Ensure optimum adhesive transfer by pressing the planks against the subfloor. We recommend H-gluing tongue and groove at the ends of the planks. Glue is applied on the upper lip of the groove. Take care not to get any adhesive on the floor surface.

5. Once the first three rows have been laid, leave the adhesive to cure over night, and continue the installation on the following day.

6. Do not walk on the parquet floor for 48 hours after installation, in order to allow the adhesive to dry and cure sufficiently. We recommend placing weights around the perimeter of the floor.

Installation of heated subfloorsParquet can also be installed over radiant heated subfloors, if done properly. Hardwood floors have favourable thermal resistance values that are neither too high nor too low. Wooden floors always feel warm under foot, even if the underfloor heating is turned off. Engineered hardwood floors are subject to far less swelling and shrinkage than solid hardwood floors. Wood species like beech and maple react very quickly to unfavourable climatic conditions, which may cause gaps to form between the planks. We recommend using wood species with low swelling and shrinking characteristics, e.g. oak, for installation over radiant heated floors. The room tempera-ture ought to be between 18–24 °C at all times. The air moisture ought to be between. 40–60 %. The surface finish must also be ta-ken into account. Open pore surface finishes, such as oiled/waxed finishes, react to variations in the room climate much faster than en-vironmentally friendly varnished surfaces. The surface temperature must not exceed 27 °C.

Installation instructions 1. Lay sound-proofing mat (e.g. PuR foam underlay, 2 mm) on cle-

an subfloor with edges abutting. This will make the floor resili-ent and quiet to walk on. NOVOLOC® floors are installed using the floating installation method; the planks are joined without glue.

2. Begin installation in the left-hand corner of the room with the tongued edge towards the wall. The exact expansion gap bet-ween flooring and wall can be adjusted later, once the first three rows have been laid.

3. Slide the second plank towards the first one at an angle and lo-wer it until you hear an audible click. Make sure that the planks are exactly aligned. Continue in this way for the whole first row.

4. With the exception of the last plank of the first row, which must be cut to size and inserted, accounting for the expansion gap re-quired between the flooring and the wall (approx. 15 mm). Start the second row of planks with the cut-off end of the first row. In-sert the side of the next plank at an angle and push against the plank already installed. The end joints should be staggered by at least 50 cm.

5. Rotate the plank downwards applying subtle pressure and en-sure a tight fit to the plank already installed. An audible click si-gnals that the joint has been made. Now press down on the end joints again. Continue in this way with all subsequent planks.

6. Once the first three rows have been laid, the expansion gap bet-ween the flooring and the wall can be adjusted. Place spacers between the floor and the wall to ensure an expansion gap of approx. 15 mm.

7. The first row of planks must sometimes be fitted to an uneven wall. Mark the contour of the wall on the planks and cut the planks to the required width taking the expansion gap into ac-count. The width of the first row must be at least 50 mm. Glue the end joints and then again wedge the first row into position.

8. Drill holes into the planks for installation around heating pipes. The holes must be at least 20 mm larger than the pipe diameter. Saw plank as shown in the illustration. After installation of the plank, glue the sawn-off piece in place and cover the hole with a pipe collar. If you have to undercut a door frame, use a piece of plank for measuring the required spacing.

9. The last row of planks is cut to size, taking into account the ex-pansion gap required between the flooring and the wall, and joined to the previous row. The width of the last row must be at least 50 mm. You can now assemble the skirting boards and finish doorways and thresholds with mouldings and transition strips.

10. The planks can be laid in both directions, if required, and are also easy to remove, which makes them very simple to install in diffi-cult places. If you cannot rotate a plank, e.g. under door frames or radiators, proceed as follows: remove the locking edge using a chisel (10a). Then apply white glue and slide the plank into pla-ce horizontally (10b).

11. The floor can be disassembled by lifting (11a) the entire row and lightly tapping the side joint to unlock it. The end joints can be unlocked by sliding the two planks horizontally (11b) in opposite directions (do not lift).

Wood species like beech and maple react very quickly to unfavourable climatic conditions, which may cause gaps to form between the planks.

We recommend using wood species with low swelling and shrin-king characteristics, e. g. oak, for installation over radiant heated floors. The room temperature ought to be between 18–24 °C at all times. The air moisture ought to be between 40–60 %. The surface finish must also be taken into account. Open pore surface finishes, such as oiled/waxed finishes, react to variations in the room climate much faster than environmentally friendly varnished surfaces. The surface temperature must not exceed 27 °C.

Installation instructions

Preparing for installationThorough preparation is the basis for a well installed hardwood floor. We therefore recommend consulting an expert for proper in-stallation.

Suitable subfloorsCement and anhydrite screeds, mastic asphalt, suitable wooden panels

Subfloor requirementsThe subfloor must meet all requirements for the laying of a hard- wood floor (flat, dry, clean, structurally sound and free of cracks), which must be tested and recorded prior to installation.

Flatness max. 3 mm over a length of 1,000 mm

Residual moisture of the subfloormust be determined and recorded using a CM measuring instrument.

comes with a solvent and formaldehyde-free sealing finish or oiled & waxed with natural vegetable oils. All elements are tongued and grooved along the edges and ends. BILAflor® is available in 4 di-mensions and 2 surface designs. All products have the same profile and can be combined with each other.

Cement screeds: max. 2.0 % CM max. 1.5 % CM with underfloor heating (recommended)*

Anhydrite screeds: max. 0.5 % CM max. 0.3 % CM with underfloor heating (recommended)*

Structural soundness s tested using a grid scratch tester. The screed is firm if the edges of the scratches remain sharp. Make sure that the subfloor is clean by carrying out a visual inspection for oil, paint stains, etc. Paint, plaster and mortar residues must be scraped off. Remove oil and grease stains by sanding and fill cracks in the screed with screed clips and epoxy resin.

Suitable adhesivesBILAflor® must be glued down to the subfloor. We recommend using solvent-free elastic hardwood floor adhesives (e.g. hybrid- or Pu-adhesives). Special subfloor treatment (priming, filling) accor-ding to manufacturer’s instructions may be necessary depending on the condition of the subfloor. Adhesive manufacturer’s instruc-tions for use must be strictly observed.

* National standards can slightly differ from our recommendation. In general lower values are advantageous and to be strived for.

Boat Deck Brick Pattern Diagonal Pattern

Boat deck (random strip), brick pattern (regular strip)It is advisable to lay the boards in the direction of incoming light. Position the first reference line at a distance of 4–6 board widths plus an expansion gap of 8–10 mm from the wall, using a straigh-tedge or string. Starting from this line, boards are laid with the ton-gue facing the wall. Once this part of the floor has been completed and the installed floor boards adhere firmly to the subfloor (observe adhesive curing times specified by the manufacturer) you can con-tinue the laying process until the room is complete. When laying a BILAflor® 500 floor, make sure that the individual rows consist of either left or right units.

Diagonal patternSnap the first reference line diagonally through the room using a string. Secure a timber strip or batten along the diagonal line to act as a guide. Start laying the boards from the centre of the room with the tongue facing the wall. Remove the guide once the first half of the room is completed. The installed floor boards must ad-here firmly to the subfloor (observe adhesive curing times specified by the manufacturer) before completing installation. When laying a BILAflor® 500 floor, make sure that the individual rows consist of eit-her left or right units.

Herringbone patternPrior to installation, several units are fitted together according to the desired pattern – single, double or triple herringbone. Snap the first reference line through the centre of the room using a string. Place the fitted units into the adhesive bed, aligning the tips along the line. Once the floor boards adhere firmly to the subfloor (observe adhesive curing times specified by manufacturer) you can continue the laying process. We recommend you snap additional lines during the laying process to check proper alignment.

Cleaning and maintenance: BILAflor® SEDAIn order to preserve its fine appearance and its high quality, wood flooring is treated with oils and waxes according to a tradition da-ting back many centuries. Only natural oils and waxes are used for BILAflor® products. Hardwood floors are subject to natural wear, de-pending on use. Special emphasis must therefore be placed on pro-per initial care with finish oil or protective wax oil and subsequent regular maintenance.See instruction leaflet: “Cleaning and maintenance for SEDA”

general informationWood species with unfavourable swelling and shrinking characte-ristics (higher probalitiy of swelling and shrinkage e.g. beech or hard maple) may experience slight gaping and cupping during the heating period. To avoid this, you should make sure the room tem-perature is kept at a constant 18–24 °C and the relative humidity between 40 and 60 %. This room climate will not only protect your wood floor but also enhance your comfort and health. We therefo-re recommend using an air humidifier. Wood is a natural material and thus reacts to sunlight by darkening or changing colour over time. Protect your BILAflor® from grit and dirt by placing mats in the entrance area. Fit your movable furniture with felt gliders in order to protect your floor.

These recommendations are based on comprehensive practical experience. Since the products are installed under different jobsite conditions, no warranty or liability claims can be derived from these recommendations for use. We recommend that you perform appro-priate tests in critical cases, if necessary, or consult technical team of Scheucher GmbH.

Important installation tips • Read instructions carefully before starting installation.• Store the flooring elements in a dry place and protect them

from moisture.• unpack your BILAflor® only immediately prior to installation.• Hardwood flooring is a natural product. High humidity may

result in excessive moisture absorption and cause the hard-wood floor to swell. The installation temperature should therefore be at least 18° and relative humidity below 65 %.

• All work involving water or moisture (tiling, painting, wallpa-pering etc.) should be completed prior to installation.

• Individual short strips contained in the packages can be used at the floor edges.

• Make sure you lay the first strips at exact angles to guarantee a perfect result.

• Do not glue the tongue/groove joint and remove any adhe-sive that that may run out using a damp cloth.

• Strips at the floor edges must be pressed on carefully, or if necessary weighted down, since subfloors are often not level at these points. This is especially important for BILAflor® 1000 and 1500.

• Always leave an expansion gap of 8–10 mm between the floor and walls or fixtures.

• Check strips for defects prior to installation. No complaints can be accepted for installed strips.

Hygroscopicity is one of wood’s natural properties. That means that wood adapts its moisture content to its environment. This process is described as “the wood working” (swelling and contracting). With a humidity above 65 % (in the summer months) or below 40 % (dur-ing the period when homes are heated), this may result in percep-tible changes in the dimensions of the parquet elements (bulging/warping in summer, shrinkage during the heating period). These ef-fects are a natural characteristic of wood and the ultimate proof of how natural wood is as a material. Our lifestyles and developments in residential buildings, with very thick building envelopes and con-trolled ventilation in living areas, as well as underfloor heating and cooling, mean that parquet and floor fitters are faced with ever in-creasing challenges. The cases of damage due to the indoor climate were rising sharply and, in many cases, it was not possible to pro-vide any data on the climate in the rooms. This is now a thing of the past!

The Fidbox® is simply installed in the parquet floor, where it auto-matically measures the temperature and relative humidity every day for many years, and saves the data. These data can be read out and evaluated at any time via a radio link, without it being necessary to damage the parquet. This ensures simple floor inspections at reg-ular intervals, so that your parquet continues to look beautiful and retain its value over many years. Installation of a Fidbox® is express-ly recommended by all leading manufacturers of parquet flooring, from an overall parquet surface of 50 m2 in the case of glueing and/or underfloor heating.

Fidbox ® – revolutionar y cl imate control

Installation instructions for Fidbox®1. Fidbox® can be installed on all substrates, within the parquet

element. In order to enable this, it is necessary to mill out a parquet element with the required dimensions before/during installation work, using a template. This can be done profession-ally using a router or another suitable tool. Thanks to its dimen-sions, installation of the Fidbox® can be carried out without any problems for all BILAflor products.

2. When laying the parquet, the adhesive strips that are attached to one side of the Fidbox® are removed and this side of the Fid-box® is glued into the parquet element and secured. Do not use any other adhesives or sealing compounds, as these could affect correct function of the Fidbox®.

3. When laying the parquet, use the prepared parquet element in the specified location. It is vital that the parquet adhesive does not clog up the measuring point on the underside of the Fid-box® and cause incorrect readings.

4. After successfully laying the parquet, note the exact position of the Fidbox® and the general information concerning this project on the hand-over documents. This will make it easier to find at a later date and simplify the read-out of data when necessary. Make a basic sketch showing the dimensions.

Unique solutionThe Fidbox® is currently the only measuring device of this type on the market. The same specifications and recommendations will ap-ply to any similar measuring devices in the future.

As of October 2011, a new safety standard is in force among the leading parquet manufacturers. In order to make the new safety lev-els standard practice within a short period of time, the Fidbox® be-comes an express recommendation during the introductory phase from October 2011, and a binding requirement from April 2012 on-wards. In the event that, after this date, you have not installed this electronic measuring device (Fidbox®), you will forfeit your claims to compensation in the case of damage to wooden floors, in so far as this damage is caused by climatic changes to the ambient con-ditions.

Please also note the safety and installation instructions that are en-closed with every Fidbox®. Further information can also be found at www.floorprotector.at.

Instal lat ion over radiant heated subf loors

Scheucher Parkett® can also be installed over radiant heated subfloors, if done properly. The surface finish must also be taken into account Open pore surface finishes, such as oiled/waxed finishes, react to variations in the room climate much faster than environmentally friendly varnished surfaces.

Important screed requirements• Today, low temperature underfloor heating is recommended.

When using undefloor heating with hot water, the maximum forerun temperature is 55 °C.

• Minimum screed thickness over heating pipes is 40 mm.• In type A3 radiant heated subfloors, the heating pipes are em-

bedded in the middle of the subfloor. This means that the moi-sture in the bottom zone of the subfloor will not be expelled du-ring the first heat-up phase. A two-stage heat increase/reduction procedure with a cooling down phase in between is therefore required.

• Cement screed must be allowed to cure for at least 21 days, anhy-drite screed for at least 7 days before putting the heating system into operation.

• The heat-up record for heated subfloors must be submitted to and confirmed by the client. A copy of this should always be enclosed with the order documents. If no such heat-up record exists or if there is any reason for doubting its correctness after careful inspection, the client must be notified of any objections in writing.

• Within the scope of testing obligations, the subfloor moisture will be tested on measuring points designated by the screeding contractor. If no such measuring points are designated, arrange for these to be designated subsequently, requesting an exempti-on from warranty for any resulting damage.

• Maximum residual moisture for cement screeds up to 1.8 % CM, for anhydrite screeds max. 0.3 % CM.

• Care must be taken to achieve a reasonable ratio between the

thermal resistance values of the layers above the heating ele-ment (screed or top layer) and below the radiant heated subflo-or (heat insulation). Downward heat transfer must not exceed 20 W/m2 or 25 % of the heat output. Therfore the thickness of the wood flooring must usually not exceed 22 mm for hardwood.

Measures to be observed by the homeownerafter installation:• Avoid extreme fluctations in room climate.• Make sure that the room temperature is kept at a constant

18–24 °C and the relative humidity at 40–60 %. We recommend using an air humidifier during the heating season.

• Please avoid any unnecessary moisture sources during the sum-mer months. By letting some air into the room for a short time in summer the optimum room climate can be preserved.

• The surface temperatur of the hardwood floor must not exceed 27 °C.

Thermal resistance values for glue-down installation:• Scheucher Parkett® 14 mm 3-layer parquet/NOVOLOC® 0.101 m2K/W• Scheucher Parkett® 11 mm BILAflor® 0.078 m2K/W

The limit value of 0.15 m2K/W must not be exceeded. 3-ply hardwood floors are of limited suitablility for floating installation, we therefore recommend glue-down installation. We generally recommend glue-down installation for underfloor heating systems.Due the disadvantageous character of some wood species, we recommend we recommend that 1-strip flooring of the wood species Beech steamed, Maple can. and Bamboo is not installed on underfloor heating.

Technical information for underf loor heating systems

Basic standardsunderfloor heating systems must be dimensioned and installed in accordance with these standards. Typical heat outputs are approx. 6 W/m². The output of electric underfloor heating systems may in no case exceed 100 W/m². underfloor heating systems may only be installed by professionals.

DIN EN 1264This standard consists of 4 parts and specifies the dimensioning and installation of floor heating systems.

ÖN B 2242This standard consists of 7 parts and specifies requirements applica-ble to hot water floor heating systems.

ENEVIn addition, the Energy Saving Regulation as amended applies in Germany.

Scheucher Parkett® is known worldwide for its rich product range based on more than 20 species of wood. Due to its technical properties such as swelling and shrinkage, joints and bends may occur. These reactions of wood depend on changes within the room climate as well as on the particular features of several species of wood. The effects on the climate and other typical characteristics of wood also limit installation over underfloor heating.

Critical wood species on underfloor heating are:Hard Maple, Acacia, Bamboo, Pear, Beech steamed and Wenge. Due to the disadvantageous character of these particular species of wood, strong reactions (swelling and shrinkage) may occur especially in large 1-strip planks. We therefore recommend that you do not install these species over underfloor heating.

The underfloor heating will cause a warm air layer to form directly above the floor surface. This means that the relative humidity there is lower than at head height and may easily fall below 30 % (or even 20 %). Wood reacts to these variations in room climate.

Requirements prior to installation• The moisture of the subfloor must be measured prior to

installation using the CM method. The moisture content must be below 1.8 % CM for cement

screeds and below 0.3 % CM for anhydrite screeds.• Signed heat-up and CM measurement records must be submitted.• The specified number of measurement points must be

durably marked.• Cracks in the subfloor must be properly repaired.• Subfloor temperature must be between 12 °C and 20 °C.• underfloor heating systems require all floor coverings to be

installed using the glue-down method (in accordance with ÖNORM B 2242).• A primer must be applied prior to adhesive application.

Requirements after installation• The surface temperature, including at the edges, may not

exceed 27 °C (Scheucher Parkett® factory specification).• Room temperature must be between 18 °C and 24 °C.• Relative humidity must be between 40 % and 60 %. In most

cases this will require humidification during the heating period. The use of cool mist humidifiers with integrated disinfection is recommended for this purpose.

Before you start, you must verify that the underfloor fulfills all the requirements for laying the sports floor. We recommend using both a laser leveller and a levelling gauge to check the evenness.

All regulations in accordance with the international stan-dards for determining the suitability of subfloors must be followed. The evenness must meet all requirements in accor-dance with DIN 18203, table 3 line 4, and the ÖISS guideline "Re-quirements for sports hall floors", issue 2005 pt. 8.3.2.: subfloor. The whole construction height is based on the highest point of the sub-floor, and the load-bearing points are prefabricated in line with that. Measure out a 400 mm grid and draw it onto the subfloor so that it is clearly visible: 400 mm is the distance between the load-bearing points from centre to centre. The distance from the floor to the wall must be at least 20 mm. The exact adjustment to fit the size of the hall is carried out in the outer rows. Evenness must be ensured by le-velling using plaster or by levelling the height differences with moi-sture resistant underlays that cannot slip out of place. The evenness of the finished sports hall floor must meet the requirements set out in the ÖISS guideline "Requirements for sports hall floors", issue 2005 pt. 8.3.1.: total construction.

The pre-finished spruce planks (with the shock absorbers already glued onto them) should be laid as the lower load-bearers, at right angles to the desired direction of the BILAflor®. If the load-bearing points are not already glued onto the lower load bearer, you must lay them according to the grid and position the lower load bearer on top of them (take care to maintain the 40 mm separation di-stance). Please ensure that the spruce planks are always laid with the notches on the upper side.

Steps 1 & 2The planks for the upper load bearer are laid at right angles to the lower ones. The spruce planks are notched again on the upper side.

119

I N S TALL AT I O N & care

Page 121: Scheucher Complete Catalogue E Ansicht

Steps 3 & 4The two planks are screwed together diagonally, each once on the left and once on the right of the notch, at the joint, making a total of 4 connections. No cross joints, that means upper and lower load bearer should never be cut off at the same bearing!

Step 5For all screw joints we recommend using partly-threaded screws for better connection of the different parts.

Steps 6 & 7Lay all plywood boards at an angle of 45° to the grid. The dimensions of the plywood boards mean that the edges of the boards can always be laid on the load bearer. Fix the boards in place using pneumatic nail guns. T-nails or staples with a min. length of 28 mm are required to fix the plywood in place. Lay at least 3 rows of Bilaflor® parallel to the upper load bearer and wait until the glue is cured. Please also follow the instructions supplied by the manufacturer of the glue. After curing, install the complete area without expansion joints.

Care & maintenance SEDA (oi led/waxed)

Home is where I can really relax and be myself. A place where I can express my own personal style and taste, surrounding myself with the things I love. Choosing from the superior woods and colours in the Scheucher Parkett® range of top quality oiled/waxed wooden flooring means I can create a bespoke floor that’s unique to my space, making my home a true reflection of my personality.

A specially developed range of cleaning and care products enhances the natural hues of my wooden floor. These nurturing products protect and preserve the beautiful sheen and individual character of the wood. Gentle treatment essences ensure the surface remains smooth yet hard-wearing.

Useful tips & precautionary measuresTo keep your Scheucher Parkett® wood floor at its best, ensure that the room temperature is kept at a constant 18 °C to 24 °C and the air humidity at approximately 40 % to 60 %. This room climate not only protects your wood floor, but also enhances your health and comfort. using an air humidifier is recommended in the heating season. To avoid scratches and serious damage we recommend that you place mats in the entrance area, and remove sand and grit with a broom. Fit your movable furniture with felt gliders and use special office chair rolls for wood floors.

Due to the natural traits of the vegetable oils, oil-soaked cloths, pads etc. are spontaneously inflammable. Store oil-soaked cloths, pads etc. in well-sealed containers or weather them on non-combustible surfaces. These care instructions are based on our many years of experience and are intended to support you. We will not accept any responsibility for misuse.

Initial treatmentTo keep your Scheucher Parkett® wood floor at its best, we suggest an initial treatment with protective wax oil after the floor has been laid. This way you can make sure that the edges and joints of your floor are protected against the penetration of humidity and dirt. This treatment is necessary for particularly moisture-sensitive wood species such as Beech and Maple.

Application1. Make sure the wood floor is clean and dry.2. Shake the protective wax oil well before use and apply it with a

cotton cloth, a buffer or a white pad (4–6 g/m2). Apply in steps (3–5 m2). 250 ml is sufficient for approx. 40–50 m2. A thin layer of protective wax guarantees an extraordinarily silky sheen finish. Finally, polish the surface with a lamb’s wool pad and remove any streaks.

3. After buffing, allow the floor to dry for approx. 12 hours. Treat the floor carefully within the first 8–10 days after the initial

treatment and avoid any damp cleaning.

CleaningIt is usually sufficient to clean your floor using a vacuum cleaner or a soft broom. Damp cleaning with a vegetable oil soap with maintenance lotion can be carried out if required.

Application1. Dry cleaning: with a vacuum cleaner or a soft broom.2. Damp cleaning: Mix 5–10 capfuls of vegetable oil soap with 10

litres of warm water. Apply the mixture to the surface with a damp, well wrung-out

mop. Make sure no water gathers on the surface since this could damage your floor.

It is up to you how often you carry out damp cleaning, depen-ding on the amount of dirt and the type of use to which your flo-or is subjected.

Intensive cleaningIf your Scheucher Parkett® wood floor becomes very dirty, we suggest cleaning it with an intensive-cleaner.

Application1. Depending on how dirty your floor is, mix approx. 5 litres of

warm water with 250–500 ml of the intensive-cleaner. Prepare a second bucket with water to rewash the floor. Clean

the floor with a cleaning pad, mop or buffer.2. Remove the dirty water with a clear, well wrung-out cloth or a

wet vacuum cleaner. Repeat cleaning the floor with clear water. Make sure no water

gathers on the surface.3. As soon as the surface of the floor has dried, treat it with protec-

tive wax oil (see initial treatment). Depending on the wood spe-cies, apply the oil once or several times.

Cleaning instructions for heavily soiled, oiled/waxed floorsJust like any other type of floor, oiled/waxed floors can become dirty as a result of intensive use. With ring-porous types of wood such as oak, ash and many exotic woods, the dirt may adhere strongly due to the large pores. The following instructions are intended to constitute guidelines for effective cleaning and appropriate initial treatment of new floors.

Step 1Cleaning takes place using an intensive-cleaner. The maximum concentration after dilution with water is 1:3. The recommended concentration is a dilution of 1:10. Cleaning with single disc buffer and red pad, possibly green pad. use plenty of liquid, so that you can remove the dirt from the deeper pores as well. Due to the use of the single disc buffer, the cleaning solution foams up and removes even deeper-lying dirt.

Step 2Suction off the dirty water using a wet vacuum. This ensures that the dirt is actually removed and not just moved around.

Step 3Rewash using clean water. This is very important, in order to remove the residue of the intensive-cleaner and obtain a clean wooden surface.

Step 4Allow to dry! After cleaning, the floor will look brighter and almost as if it is untreated.

Step 5If necessary, the surface can now be smoothed and cleaned using a 180 grit abrasive mesh disc and a single disc buffer.Damaged areas can be repaired by means of manual sanding with 120 grit and subsequently 150 grit.

Step 5aAfter sanding, the residue must be suctioned off and the floor damp cleaned again, in order to remove the sanding dust from the pores.

Step 6Application of new oil: Apply the maintenance wax oil evenly with a cloth and immediately work in with the lamb’s wool pad and the single disc buffer.

Step 7Second application of oil in the same way as the first, to fully saturate the surface.

Step 8Drying time at least 24 hours, then people may walk on the surface again. Do not subject the floor to heavy loads during the first week; on no account damp wash! The oil is completely hardened after around 5 days.

Instructions for manual treatment with coloured oils

Materials required• Colourless oil, and coloured oil if required• Thinner or, alternatively, traditional “painters’ turpentine”• Mohair roller, or high density foam roller, or pump sprayer • White pad for working in the oil, among other things

(brushes, etc.)

Cleaning• No wet cleaning in the first 10 days! No heavy loads in the first 5 days!

Step 1If the surface has to be repaired, it must be sanded until the mark or damage is no longer visible. Sand using pads of increasing coar-seness of grit, starting with grit 120. Always sand in the direction of the wood’s grain. To ensure even surface roughness, smooth and polish using grit 150 (or more rarely with grit 180). Sanding in col-ourless oil reduces the risk of scratches.

Step 2The wooden surface to be oiled must be finely sanded (grit 150/180). Naturally, this must take place when free from dust and grease, and dry

Step 3Coloured oil can be diluted to the required viscosity using colourless oil, and thinner if necessary. The same applies for simple thinning of transparent oil. In both cases, the proportion of thinner must not exceed 30 %. The adjustment must take place on sample surfaces. The oil can best be applied using the mohair roller or the pump sprayer, but it is also possible to apply it using a high density

foam roller or a brush. The amount to be applied is approximately 10–15 g/m², depending on the absorption behaviour of the wood. Massage in the oil immediately using a red pad (or possibly with a green pad – but take care due to the risk of scratches), in order to avoid oil gathering on the surface. Due to the slightly abrasive structure of the red or green pad, the oil is worked in particularly well, producing a very good bond with the substrate and giving a pleasant feel to the floor. If, with untreated wood, too much pig-ment is worked into the pores of the wood by the pad, it is also possible to create a first undercoat with the colourless oil and only apply the coloured oil in a second step, which then makes it easier to spread evenly. The application devices are cleaned using thinner.

Step 4*

Drying time at least 24 hours

Step 5*

Cleaning the surface (possibly through light sanding using abrasive mesh of grit 220)

Step 6*

The colourless oil will be applied as a protective layer when applying colour to untreated wood. The amount to be applied is approxi-mately 10–15 g/m². Remove excess oil by immediately working it in with the pad, otherwise a film may form on the wood.

Step 7*

After a drying time of 4 days, the surface may be used. Initial treat-ment using maintenance wax oil is highly recommended after in-stallation. The amount to be applied is approximately 4 g/m², which must then be worked in using the lamb’s wool pad.

To avoid scratches and serious damage, we recommend that you place mats in the entrance area and remove sand and grit with a broom. These care instructions are based on our many year of experience and intended to support you. We will not accept any responsibility for misuse.

Initial treatment & refreshingTo keep your Scheucher Parkett® wood floor at its best, we suggest an initial treatment after the floor has been laid. This way you can make sure that the edges and joints of your floor are protected against the penetration of humidity and dirt. This treatment is necessary for particularly moisture-sensitive wood species such as Beech and Maple.

Application1. Clean the wood floor thoroughly with Bona Cleaner.2. Make sure the floor is free from oil, wax and other dirt and wait

until it is completely dry. Then apply Bona Refresher. Shake it well before use. In order to obtain the maximum effect,

use a wet Bona refresher coat. Apply in steps (3 m2) evenly and in thin layers along the grain of the wood. No polishing required.

3. After cleaning, let the floor dry for approx. 2 hours.

Care & maintenanceIt is usually sufficient to clean your floor using a vacuum cleaner or a soft broom. Footmarks and heavy soiling can be removed with a wet, well wrung-out cloth.

Bona Care Cleaner – Cleaning Spray… ready for use and does not need to be watered down. Spray the floor surface in steps. You can also spray the cleaner directly onto a microfibre cloth and fix the microfibre cloth to the care mop. Clean all sprayed areas of the floor and let them dry. No polishing required.

Bona Cleaner … is a concentrated cleaning agent. use 50 ml (5 capfuls) of the concentrate with 10 litres of water. For particularly dirty floors you can use 100 ml of the concentrate with 10 litres of water. If large areas have to be cleaned, Bona Cleaner can also be used for cleaning machines. Be careful and do not use too much water since this could result in damage.

Bona Care Cleaner Bona Cleaner

Basic cleaningFor basic cleaning use Bona Fernox – a liquid cleaner for sealed parquets and wood floors.Fernox removes wax and polish residues as well as heavy soiling and footmarks made with rubber heels.

Application1. For basic cleaning, use 1 litre of Bona Fernox with 5 litres of water,

leave for a few minutes and then wipe the floor.2. Then wipe the floor again with plain water since residues of Bo-

na Fernox can negatively influence further care and maintenan-ce steps. Wait until the floor is completely dry.

3. Finally apply Bona Refresher. Make sure you only use a damp cloth since swelling may occur if too much water is used.

Complaints, causes of defects, prevention and remedies

The following are the most serious installation mistakes:• The prescribed expansion gaps between flooring and wall or

fixed elements (e.g. heating pipes) are not provided.• The planks are installed the wrong round and the tapping block

or the cut-off end of a plank are used for tapping against the grooved edge.

• Glue is applied either in the wrong place, only in spots or forgot-ten altogether.

• use of wrong installation tools.• The testing obligations according to DIN 18356 are not consi-

stently observed.

Causes of complaintsMost causes of complaints are the result of the natural behaviour, the shrinking and swelling, of the wood:

• underdrying (shrinking) – result: gaps• Excessive moisture uptake (swelling) – result: deformation and bulging

The above-mentioned basic mistakes result in various defects. We have listed most of them, together with recommendations for their prevention and repair, in the following table:

V E R LEg U N g & P f le ge

128

Page 130: Scheucher Complete Catalogue E Ansicht

Defect Cause Prevention RemedyCracks, raised grain Exposed medullary rays, in particular in

Oak, where the grain rises as a result of the swelling pressure occuring during the gluing or varnishing process.

Not possible as this is a natural characteristic of wood.

Chisel out using a broach and fill hole with hard wax, or replace defective plank.

Crying cracks Cracks resulting from tension occuring during the drying process. The wood dries from the outside in, so that the outer part is brittle, while the inner part is resilient, thus resulting in tensile stress. The wood tends to bend inward causing small cracks to develop.

Can largely be prevented through processor controlled drying, but cannot be excluded completely because these cracks are also caused by natural tensions and different initial moisture contents.

Chisel out using a broach and fill hole with hard wax, or replace defective plank.

Darkening Development of pigments as a result of solar uV radiation, in particular in light woods.

Not possible. Sanding of darkened hardwood floors will bring back the original wood colours and vivid appearance of the newly installed floor.

gaps Shrinking caused by underdrying of the wood in excessively dry air. Often also caused by previous swelling of the wood due to residual moisture in new buildings.

Maintain a healthy room climate of 50–60 % humidity at 18–24 °C during the heating period using an humidifier.

Intensive use of humidifiers.

Cupping(concave deformation of floorboards)

Tension within the elements caused by rising moisture from the subfloor, concentrating beneath the varnish coat. Can be observed very well in sensitive wood species, such as Beech and Maple.

When installing a hardwood floor in a new building, place a 0.2 mm PE film underneath the sound-proofing mat to protect the floor from residual moisture.

In new buildings with residual moisture this phenomenon will disappear after the second heating period. Slight visual changes observed in wood species such as Beech and Maple even at normal high humidity levels during the summer months do not constitute a defect but are a natural occurrence.

Brown stains and discolouration underneath the varnish coat in oak floors

Reaction of the tannic acid contained in the oak wool with ammonia from cleaners e. g. window cleaners, or reaction to pet urine.

Do not use cleaners containing ammonium chloride or ammonia.

The only remedy is sandingand refinishing.

Dark shadows running across the planks

So-called sticker stains caused by piling sticks between the cut timber strips, which prevent the uniform release of wood constituents.

Sticker stains cannot be avoided completely during the drying process. Planks with very dark stains are sorted out prior to manufacture.

Not necessary. The dark stainswill disappear through exposure to light and darkening of the lighter areas.

Bulging and warping Effect of moisture an/or lack of expansion gaps.

Consistently provide expansion gaps between the floor and all fixed elements, in particular heating pipes, thresholds, door frames, mouldings or chimneys.

Cut expansion gaps afterwards.

Tongue and groove are too tight

Production defect or use of wrong tools. The tongues have been compressed by the pull bar, or the tapping block used is too short.

In the case of a production defect, interrupt installation and exchange material or sand the tongue using a sanding block; always be sure to use the right tools.

Exchange material; if the elements have already been installed, sand, fill with wood filler and refinish.

Wedge-type gaps at the ends

Either tapering boards or installation defect. Installation defects will occur when the sides of the planks have not been aligned in parallel and completely closed along the sides.

Install carefully. Fill gaps with hard wax.

Diagonal installationWood flooring that is installed diagonally adds extra style to the room. You might also consider combining different wood species.

Heating pipes in the subfloorIf you suspect non-insulated heating pipes in the subfloor (not underfloor heating pipes but radiator supply pipes), carry out a test at full load and maximum flow temperature. If you find such areas, we recommend using a soft fibreboard of at least 8 mm thickness instead of the 2 mm sound-proofing mat, in order to achieve proper heat insulation and to prevent the excessively warm subfloor from causing underdrying defects in the hardwood floor.

Wood hardness/wood choiceHardness schould not be the major criterion in choosing the wood species for your floor. Not even the hardest wood species can withstand the point loads exerted by high heels. Scratches and scuffs caused by mechanical impacts (sand and dirt particles on shoe soles) first affect the varnish coat and have little effect on the ardness of the wood.

Slight irregularities in the subfloorIf slight irregularities or depressions are detected in the subfloor in the case of floating installation, these can partially be evened out using the cardboard edge protection from the Scheucher Parkett® packaging.

glue dispenserIf the glue dispenser is half empty, you shoud lay it on the floor instead of standing it upright after glue application. The glue will thus reach the dispenser tip faster when gluing the next plank.

glue residuesGlue that has dripped on the floor or has been squeezed out between planks must be cleaned up immediately. Change cloths regularly, otherwise glue can be smeared on the floor instead of being removed.

Last row of planks If no pull bar is available, the tongues of the planks in the last but one row can be slightly sanded using a sanding block. The last row of planks can then be pulled into place.

DarkeningWood is a natural product and has many advantages. Variations in colour clearly visible at the beginning, e. g. in Beech or Birch, even out under exposure to light.

Streaks caused by care productsStreaks and dull spots caused by care and maintenance products can be prevented by applying care products sparingly and by subsequent polishing using a buffer.

PPS profiles – symmetrical screwholesWhen installing door mouldings, cut PPS profiles to 90 cm at both ends so that the outer screwholes are equidistant from the door frames.

Correct installation of PPS profilesPlace the top and bottom profiles underneath the door leaf so that the moulding will extend equally on both sides of the door leaf when the door is closed. Only the smooth outer edge of the PPS top profile will be visible, while the ribbed profile is hidden under the door leaf.

SiliconNever use silicon on a wood floor! use only an appropriate acrylate joint sealant to fill joints or expansion gaps. The slightest trace of silicon on a hardwood floor will cause varnish problems when restoring or resealing the floor.

Mounting of skirting boardsWhen mounting the skirting boards, do not press them onto the floor since this would lock the floor in place. The skirting boards are screwed and dowelled to the wall.

End jointsEnd joints will close up perfectly when the planks are always first joined at the ends and the side joint is then closed form left to right starting from the last end joint.

High heelsNo hardwood floor can withstand the pressure of high heels! Heel diameters of 3–5 mm result in a contact area of only 20 mm². The weight of a 60 kg person thus exerts a pressure of 300 kg/cm² on this small area. The same applies to grit adhering to shoe soles. Such impacts will also cause chips and scratches on other flooring materials, such as ceramic tiles.

Castor chairsOffice chairs are provided with different types of castors. Two-colour castors must be used for hardwood floors. Single-colour castors are designed for soft floors and must not be used on hardwood floors, since they cause extremely high wear.

DoorwaysWhen installing a hardwood floor through doorways, be sure to remove not only the frame panelling but also the door jamb so that the floor can be laid underneath the jamb to allow the floor to move. If this is not possible and the doorcase sits flush on the ground, an expansion gap of at least 5 mm must be left between the doorcase and the hardwood floor. The upper third of this gap can be filled with acrylic filler; the lower two thirds must be lined with hemp.

SpillsIn the case of accidental spills, the liquid must be wiped up immediately. This is especially important for light-coloured wood species, which absorb moisture even through sealed joints due to their high swelling rate and fast reaction to moisture changes. This is the only way to prevent discolouration and warping at the end joints of the hardwood strips as a result of liquid spills.
