Schengen-Visa The following information applies to short-term trips to Germany and the other states of the Schengen area for a duration of not more than 90 days for tourism, visiting relatives and friends, busi-ness purposes, visiting trade fairs as well as for other purposes without taking up any kind of employ-ment.

You can apply for a Schengen visa a the German Embassy in Jakarta if
You are resident in Indonesia
and
If the destination of your travel is in Germany
or
If in terms of duration or purpose of your stay your main travel destination is Germany
or
If you have several travel destinations in several Schengen countries with the same duration/purpose of your stay and your first port of entry in the Schengen area is in Germany.

Please verify which Schengen country is competent for issuing your visa.
Obtaining a visa surreptitiously from a non-competent Embassy by providing false information may lead to refusal of entry at the border and prosecution.
In the framework of the Schengen cooperation the German Embassy Jakarta is also issuing visa on behalf of Latvia in Indonesia as Latvia has no Embassy in Indonesia.

Is my personal appearance required ?
Since the implementation of the Schengen Visa Information System VIS im November 2013 fingerprint scans are necessary for all applicants. Thus your personal appearance is mandatory. Chil-dren below the ago of 12 are exempted.

If your biometric fingerprints have already been previously collected at the German Embassy or at the Embassy of another Schengen member -also in another country- within the last five years for a Schengen visa application your personal appearance is not required. In this case you can submit your application by a third person authorized to represent you. However applications by mail cannot be accepted. Please check the application form accordingly:
However it might occur that the fingerprint previously saved in VIS cannot be used for the new application due to inferior quality of the scans or technical problems so that we have to request your personal appearance.
Besides it may be necessary for us to clarify questions in person and therefore will invite you for a personal interview.

Applications for Schengen visa should be submitted not later than two weeks before the intended departure and are accept-ed up to three months before the departure date. Please pre-sent your e-mail confirmation for the appointment at the entrance.
Other receiving offices
Schengen visa applications can also be submitted at the Honorary Consuls of the Federal Repub-lic of Germany in Indonesia. The applications are then forwarded to the Embassy in Jakarta for processing. For this service the Honorary Consuls charge an extra fee.

Fill in the German, English or Indonesian language version of the electronic VIDEX application- at your PC in the internet. Print and submit the complete form including all barcodes.
Your data will imported into the visa system through the barcodes, which reduces the processing time considerably.
In exemptional cases the application can be downloaded from the website of the Embassy and filled-in by hand. The form is -without charge- also available at the Embassy.

Please fix one passport photograph in the upper right corner oft the application form and add one more passport photograph loosely to the application. The passport photographs should have the following elements:

Proof of insurance coverage is to be presented with the visa application for the first stay in the Schengen area. A Schengen visa for multiple entries and a long-term Schengen visa (e.g. for a peri-od of six months or one year -see page 9 ) can only be granted if page 2 of the information leaflet on health insurance is signed by the applicant.

Both parents /legal custodians have to be appear in person for the child`s visa application and submit the following documents:

Processing
Your documents will be pre-checked at the counter. Originals will be returned immediately, ex-cept for the passport. If your application is incomplete you have to take into consideration that it cannot be accepted.
Please keep in mind that you also have to present at the counter those documents which have already been forwarded to the Embassy in advance ( e.g. invitations from Germany, letters of em-ployer ).
Please anticipate at least three working days for the processing of your visa application. If the Embassy re-quests additional documents, processing could take longer.
Please always quote your reference number in all corre-spondance and especially when you submit additional documents upon request. The number has six digits and you find it on your receipt (Abholnachweis/Kwitansi).
Collecting the visa
Please present the receipt and the pick-up slip for collecting the visa. You can also give a written au-thorization to a third person to collect your passport on your behalf.
The passport can be collected on every working day of the Embassy between 11.00 and 12.00 a.m.

Modifying the validity
Schengen visa labels cannot be modified after printing. In case of a change in your travel plans a new visa is needed. Please submit the following documents which may be submitted personally or by a messenger on any working day between 7.30 a.m. and 8.30 a.m. at counter no. 5:
