Eyes to See I was up before the sun this morning to go into Amarillo to do a
hospital visit. After scraping the ice off my windshield, it took me
some time to warm up. As I drove down Soncy Road into
Amarillo, I spent the time praying for those in the hospital and for
anyone else that popped into my mind. It was a good drive and
a good time of prayer.
But something happened that took my breath away. As I was getting onto
Hollywood road I looked back to the East. And there it was – one of those
beautiful red, orange and yellow sunrises. It shocked me. I wasn’t prepared for it
as I was merging onto the road. What an incredible sight it was!
The funny thing was, it had been there for quite a while but I hadn’t noticed.
That’s the way it is sometimes. We don’t notice the things that are literally taking
up half the sky! How often we miss out on the things of God because we don’t
take the time to look and to listen.
I pray that today you are blessed with the realization of the beauty of God’s
creation and the realization that God is present at all times and in many different
ways. May you have eyes to see and may you be blessed!
In Christ,
Rick Enns

postmarked 2013 can be deducted this year even if it is not
received by the church until 2014. Our church will be following
these rules in issuing receipts.
If it is important for you to have your gift deposited by the church
in 2013, please have your check to the church office no later
than 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 31.
Merry Christmas from the FUMC Canyon Staff
Our Fall semester ended with
the greatest Christmas program
ever by our kids. I am so proud
of each and every one of them.
There is nothing better than
seeing Christmas through the
eyes of our children!
Thanks to everyone for your
prayers and support of this great ministry.
January 8 will be the first Wednesday Night of 2014.
So, between now and then, enjoy time with your family
and friends. Let’s be like Mary and Joseph this
Christmas season. As hard to believe as the news of a
baby was, Mary said, “I am the Lord’s servant, may it
be to me as you have said.” She sang praises to God.
I’m sure she was terrified, but she believed in the One
True God and followed Him, even when the impossible
happened. Joseph, went against every human thought
he had to care for Mary and the Baby so that the Light
of World could come and save us.
Christmas is the time to remember God’s great love for
us and a time to remember what should be at the
center of our lives.
God, this Christmas, help us as the time for Your
coming comes closer, prepare our hearts and daily
lives. We wait with excitement to see Your Light
shining as we look at this season around us. Help us
to be Your light, Your servants for others. Even when
things seem black and confusing, we can be like Mary
and Joseph. We can believe! We can give ourselves
fully, as Mary and Joseph did, to God’s plans for us.
We pray it is You the world sees. Help us to live holy
lives, You Lord, are proud of. AMEN

Thank you to everyone who has been so good to me during the past few weeks: to those who helped me make the transition to Hillside Heights, to those who sent cards, to those who visited, to those who called. A special thanks to the Crusaders Class and to Rick, Cat, and Roman. We have a wonderful church family. Marian Hefley

In December, 1928, a community musical was presented at the Methodist Church. About forty young people of every denomination (so stated The Randall County News) sang in
the musical Chimes of the Holy Night.
In 1988, a Living Nativity on the front lawn pleased crowds of spectators as junior and senior high youth told the story of Jesus’ birth. The living sheep, however, ignored their
shepherd and ran down the street!
