Cloughjordan Ecovillage as a Learning Community "Climate change is the greatest challenge of our time affecting all of humanity. Many hope that new technologies will resolve the problem but experts recognise that, to be successful, behavioural and lifestyle change is also required. This is best done through strong communities that can build resilience, practices of sharing and mutual learning. Society needs models like Cloughjordan Ecovillage to research and model the transition. "Cloughjordan Ecovillage is an award winning sustainable neighbourhood in the Irish rural town of Cloughjordan in Tipperary. Uniquely, it was conceived and is being developed by its current and future residents, under the umbrella of an educational charity, founded in 1999: Sustainable Projects Ireland (CHY13328). "The Ecovillage was envisioned as a destination for learning-by-doing and action research into sustainability, resilience, community living and rural regeneration. 100 adults and 35 children are now living in the ecovillage, and over 15 businesses, co-operatives and learning providers are also based there making it a dynamic ecosystem of innovation. "Through its renewable energy heating system, its well-insulated houses, its community farm, its green enterprise centre with co-working and a digital fabrication lab, its community woodlands, its research relationships with Ireland’s universities, the project acts as a powerful model for the transition to a low-carbon society and the building of community resilience. "Its location in an existing settlement helps with its mission of mainstreaming sustainability. With a target of 130 housing units, the Ecovillage is still developing. We are planning a process to systematically reduce our ecological footprint over time, learning new means to achieve this and sharing these through our education. A visit or participating in a course here is stimulating, interesting — and also a great day out!

Beyond Paris: Facing the Challenges 8pm Thomas MacDonagh Heritage Centre Welcome to the Transition: What does the Paris Climate Agreement
mean for Ireland Speaker: Dr. Cara Augustenborg, lecturer in climate
change at University College Dublin and Chairperson of Friends of the
Earth Ireland. She is also Ireland's first Climate Leader as part of Al
Gore's Climate Reality Project. The early part of Cara's climate career
was spent teaching the environmental science and impacts of climate
change. Frustrated with the emphasis on climate problems instead of
solutions in public debate, Cara's communication of the climate crisis
now focuses on solutions and the societal and economic co-benefits of
transitioning to a fossil-fuel free society. Following the historic Paris
Climate Agreement, Cara will present her vision of where Ireland is
headed as part of this global low-carbon transition. Talks begin at 8:15. Donations will be requested to pay for the rent of the room. ""

protects the soil on which our agriculture depends.
This event will examine how communities can build resilience and
benefit from establishing co-operative food systems, it seeks to
nurture the local food economy by facilitating connections between
initiatives such as Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), food
coops & buyers clubs, community gardens, grow projects, community
kitchens, and local food supply and distribution systems.

Ecovillage Learning Community Measuring our Ecological Footprint: Learning the Lessons 7.30 WeCreate Workspace. Donation
This session will examine what we can learn from the measurement of
our EF, focusing on the five components of our consumption impacts:
energy, waste, food, transport and water. Discussion will draw on the
results for the ecovillage as a whole; members who got their individual
household EFs are invited to share the lessons to help enrich and
deepen what we can learn. All attending will be encouraged to offer
their lessons. The objective is to arrive at a deeper understanding of
what we can all learn from each other. Dr Vincent Carragher, who
carried out the measurement of the EF for us, has kindly agreed to
participate in these sessions. He will give an initial overview of the
distinctive features of the ecovillage's EF and will lead the discussion.
Beginning Thursday 21st April
Unconsciously Awake An 8 week course in Lucid Dreaming and Mindful Sleeping Donation-based, 11am - 12.15pm, Thursdays, Venue TBC
An introductory course to explore lucid dreaming and bring curiosity
& awareness to the subtleties of sleep. (A lucid dream is a dream in
which you realise you’re dreaming while actually sound asleep) Learn
to remember your dreams, extend some awareness into the usual
unconscious ‘black out’ period of sleeping and make some use of the
third of our day we usually switch off for. Using these practices of the
night, we can bring a rich curiosity to going to sleep and use this state
to explore the depths of our unconscious mind for learning, self
growth and, of course, fun! - Allowing the night to be of more benefit
to our waking lives than simply getting a good night’s sleep. For more details or simply interested in lucid dreaming, contact Aaron 087 7661667
