Intro to Welding - Module 5 Post Hole Digging - Module 6

Concrete Mixing - Module 7 Post Setting/Anchoring - Module 8

Friday, February 6

An essential part of building and installing fencing involves securely joining pipes, rods, plates and other metal profiles and pieces. Welding offers a quick and highly secure method for making these connections. Learn the basics of welding and, more specifically, how welding is commonly used in fencing. Safety that is specific to welding will also be stressed. Note: Will not qualify the participant to be a welder. This status can only be achieved by completing an appropriate welding apprenticeship and/or education or certification program.

Post hole digging may seem like a simple task at first glance. However, post holes are the foundation of every fence and must be correctly prepared to ensure that posts are properly aligned and anchored. Each fence type requires a specific depth and diameter post hole. In addition, each site is unique and presents different challenges in terms of its terrain, soil type, structures and underground obstructions.

Concrete is an important but misunderstood element in setting fence posts. It is not used to make fences stronger, but to provide compressive strength around posts. It is important that it is mixed in accordance with the type of fence being built and the environment in which the fence will be installed. Gain a working knowledge of what concrete is, how it can be modified for specific purposes and how to properly design and mix a load of concrete for a particular job.

Most job sites are not found on flat terrain with easy-to-dig soils. Differing topographies, ground conditions and man-made obstacles are often encountered and present challenges in setting posts properly. Learn post setting methods for setting posts in concrete, driving posts into the ground, core drilling and anchoring posts with flanges and/or plates where other methods cannot be used.

The Affordable Care Act & Its Impact on Employers: What Association and Small Business Executives Need to Know Now

Underground Utilities Safety

Thursday, February 5

Friday, February 6

Most small businesses do not have the benefit of having a general counsel or a lawyer on staff. A well drafted contract can provide the legal map for successful performance and completion of the project. This is followed up by learning the do’s and don’ts of collections - how to keep your customer happy while collecting money.

Sit in on a legal trial that demonstrates the relevant UL325 and ASTM2200 gate standards that our nation’s court systems utilize when assessing automated vehicular gate liability.

This session will provide perspective on the goals and key provisions of the ACA, including common misperceptions. Experts will help you understand how to educate your employees, identify the short-term steps your organization must take, and the long-term steps you should already be planning for. Discuss the questions that still exist around the ACA’s impact on health insurance and when organizations can expect answers, and dive into a discussion of the likely future of health insurance as additional ACA provisions take effect in the future.

A new, federally-mandated national “Call Before You Dig” number, 811 was created to help protect you from unintentionally hitting underground utility lines while working on digging projects. People digging often make risky assumptions about whether or not they should get their utility lines marked due to concerns about project delays, costs and previous calls about other projects. These assumptions can be life-threatening. Discover the proper steps to take to ensure a safe site.

Business Management TrackLearn the tools of the trade that will drive you to success.

HOUSING INFORMATION

OFFICIAL AFA HOTELS

For the convenience of our attendees and exhibitors, AFA contracts with hotels for significant room blocks.

Booking your room in the AFA block is extremely important because the Association, on behalf of the attendees and exhibitors, has committed revenue to the hotels for a specified number of hotel rooms. If AFA does not use the specified number of hotel rooms, which can happen when attendees and exhibitors book in the other hotels or outside of the AFA block, the Association is monetarily penalized in the form of attrition fees for any un-booked hotel rooms in our block.

In addition when you “book within the block” you help the AFA keep hotel room rates as low as possible by creating more negotiating power in the future.

To make reservations, book your hotel rooms in the official AFA block by using the hotel’s dedicated AFA website or toll-free telephone number. Make sure to identify yourself as part of the AFA group when making your reservation.

Unauthorized housing companies have been contacting AFA FENCETECH exhibitors and attendees and identifying themselves as being affiliated with AFA. AFA has NO affiliation with these organizations and in no way endorses their services. In fact, we have had reports from other groups that many of these companies are scamming attendees by tacking on undisclosed service charges, failing to make paid for reservations and other questionable business practices. Please note that AFA does not provide them with any contact information. If you receive a phone call or email from any company or any other travel service that is not AFA, PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND! Any housing information will come directly from AFA from emails ending in @americanfenceassociation.com. Please report any unauthorized housing and travel solicitations to Alexa Churchwell at [email protected].
