MATT’S MESSAGE

HAPPY BIRTHDAY USA!!! Time for hot dogs, watermelon, the

annual golf cart parade, fireworks and shaking and quaking frightened dogs. July is also the birthday month of the 2018 Scenic Hills Community budget. Ken Gendolfe and his happy bunch of budgeters are beginning the process of putting pen to paper and numbers to dollars. Committees are now reviewing 2017 expenditures and starting to develop financial plans for 2018. You too, can, and should be part of this process. If you have some ideas or suggestions please pass them on to Ken, the Lodge staff or any board member. Don’t wait until October, that may be too late, especially for high-ticket projects. Now, a couple of items we have cussed and discussed many times. The pool and speeding and reckless driving. We have had some incidents this last month with rowdy kids in the pool and dangerous driving in our community. If the disregard for traffic signs and speeding continues, someone is going to get hurt. None of us want that to happen. Grandparents it is up to you to control your guests. We all love our family and friends to visit but not at the expense of other residents. Every one of us in our community knows the rules so please pass them on to your visitors. Please respect our community. Let’s have a happy and safe 4th of July. Keep Cool! Keep Smiling!

****JULY REMINDERS****

As we are well into the summer months, these are a few reminders to keep in mind throughout the year.

• If you remain in the Lodge after the Office staff has gone for the day, you are still responsible to make sure the ENTIRE Lodge is locked up before you leave. We have had two incidents within a 1 week period where the Game Room door was not secured. I do not appreciate getting those midnight calls when the Night Patrol finds the doors open, just because “someone forgot”.

• Everyone should check their Frequent Visitor List and update it to keep it current. The list is maintained by the Office Staff and they can print out your current list and provide you with a form to add/delete/change the information on your list. Sometimes we just add and NEVER delete anyone, so this is a good time to get it all in line.

• Remember, Residents are responsible for the actions of ALL your guests. So keep that in mind as you authorize visitors to come through the Front Gate.

• If you are leaving the community for a few days, be sure to complete a Vacation Form and turn it in to the Front Office NOT the Front Gate. Be sure to include an emergency contact in the area in case of an emergency. Again, we have had a few instances where doors were left unlocked or garage doors were left open and we had no way to contact anyone to secure the home. The home just remains wide open for the duration of your absence when that happens.

• Speaking of Vacations. When you return, be sure to stop at the Front Gate and let the Guards know you have returned. Otherwise, you may be surprised with the friendly face of the Night Patrol Officer looking in your window or pounding on your door in the middle of the night. They are only doing their jobs, because you did not do yours.

• As we get into the Summer months, there is increased activity for Vacationing and

having work done around the homestead. Be aware that if you are having work done, the construction companies tend to have good sized trucks and many times they are pulling trailers as well. We do not have the widest of streets so just as a courtesy; make sure your construction workers are not creating a bottle neck in the streets. Large pick-up trucks parked on both sides of the street inhibits the ability of emergency vehicles to navigate the streets. It also causes problems with residents coming or going with Recreational Vehicles. It is just a matter of common sense and being sensitive to the needs of the entire community and being courteous toward your neighbors.

• Residents who use the RV Lot. Be sure to take a look at your RV Lot Access Card and check the expiration date. If your card is expired, you will not be issued a gate opener. For residents, all you have to do is go to the Office and get a new card. It should not take more than 5 minutes, but bring you vehicle registration at the same time to make it go even quicker.

• It’s vacation time and people are bringing their RV’s into the community to get them ready for their big trips. Please remember Section 6, Article 9, of the Covenants states, in part, “Campers, Travel Trailors; Motor Homes; Recreational Vehicles and the like, may be present within the properties for a period not to exceed 72 hours within any one week.”Scenic Hills relies on the integrity of the RV owners to recognize the rules and abide by them.

Have a great summer and travel safe and be sure to come back to us healthy and well-tanned. Terry Ody, Chair Security and RV Lot Committees

Coming in September!

1st Annual Mystery

Dinner Theatre

You are invited to a

Masquerade Ball murder

mystery party game that

involves all the guests. The

action is set in Bloodworth

Falls, a community full of

scandal, blackmail and

deceit. Nobody in town can

seem to get along, and the local

government has hidden motives

for the dreadful decisions they

make. The mayor is hosting a

mysterious masquerade ball on

September 23rd in the

Ravenwood Castle (AKA the

Scenic Hills Lodge), and the

tickets to the event are

expected to sell out in hours.

Everyone will be curious to find

out why the mayor would put

effort into doing something

positive in this town of gloom.

Get busy hunting for the

perfect mask, because no one

can predict what will happen

this night when such toxic

people gather at the castle.

Tickets are $15 for dinner and

the mystery. They go on sale

August 1st and will be available

until September 8th unless they

sell out first!

The family of Donna Hawkins will be having a memorial on July 1st at 12:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in New Braunfels, they have asked that the community please join them in celebrating Donna’s amazing life.

RAFFLE

FIVE CHANCES $5! Ya can’t beat them odds, mister.

Dinner for two at a great restaurant for $5? What a deal! Five chances on one of five great gift baskets that each include dinner for two at one of five restaurants for just $5. The drawing will be held at the July Social and all proceeds go to the Lodge Committee projects. You can check out the gift baskets and buy your raffle tickets at the lodge, the 4th of July festivities, or the night of the drawing. Get your tickets, and join the fun. You need not be present to win but if you do plan on attending you must purchase a Social ticket, your raffle ticket does not get you into the Social. Please patronize the generous restaurants who donated gift cards: Montana Mike’s, Jason’s Deli, Bonzai Japanese Steak House, Longhorn Steakhouse and Abel’s Diner. Look for another raffle in the fall that will represent another group of supportive donors including Montana Mike’s, Chuy’s, and Willies Ice House.
