Prison ShipsMr. Meeker was sent to a prison ship in New York Harbor. During the Revolutionary War, at least 16 hulks, including the infamous HMS Jersey, were used by the British to hold thousands of American prisoners of war in horrible conditions. As many as 10,000 of these prisoners died. In contrast, 4,435 soldiers died in battle.
