Sweeney Todd - Tim Burton (2007)

The convention of this movie is about a Evil Judge Turpin who lusts for the beautiful wife of a London barber and transports him to Australia for a crime he did not commit. Returning after 15 years and calling himself Sweeney Todd, the now-mad man vows revenge, applying his razor to unlucky customers and shuttling the bodies down to Mrs. Lovett , who uses them in her meat-pie shop. Though many fall to his blade, he will not be satisfied until he slits Turpin's throat.

This movie has a combination of genres: Murder Mystery, Horror, Musical, Thriller and Drama.

This movie was based on Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler.

This was filmed at Pinewood studios. Due to the movie having a morbid tone some studios were nervous to invest in the movie. It was not until Warner Bros, DreamWorks and Paramount had signed up for the project that the film's $50 million budget was covered.

The convention of this scene is the flashback of the actors past about his wife and what events pasted to make him the way he is in the present.

The first distinction we can make is that the movies genre is horror. This is shown by the use of dark lighting (technical code technique) and the black clothes the 2 character are wearing. This is very common now, due to the combinations of genre movies, mostly being very dark having a horror movie undertones.

In the beginning we shot reverse shot is applied between the two main characters, to show us , as the audience the setting of the scene. As well as a close up on the male character, to emphasis his facial expressions. This also used for the flashback for the drunk women.

An establishing shot is shown at the start of the flashback of the characters story line. However, this has very bright colors applied and warm colors for the dressing of the character in question. This is showing the emotions of the character (symbolic code technique used) being clam and happy. As this is lost once, near the end of the flashback, as it fades out; going back to the 2 characters sitting opposite each other talking.
