Masonry Student Advances to Nationals
Eli Webb, a junior Masonry student, recently competed at the State Skills USA competition.
Eli’s father, Earl Webb, was a bricklayer and he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps. Eli
had laid brick before he cam into the Masonry class. His older brother is also a bricklayer
who attended the CTC several years ago.
In the upcoming national competition, SkillUSA gives you the blueprints and you are
expected to build the project without any practice time. Mr. Moore, Masonry Instructor
stated, “ I think he and I will have maybe ten minutes to talk about the project, other than
that, he goes to building.”
Mr. Moore stated: “the average age of a masonry person is 50 or older and when those
people start retiring there will be a large demand for bricklayers.” Eli will be competing at
the Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky the week of June 24th. Good luck Eli!!!!
SCCTC Takes First in Video Contest
The South Central Ohio Educational Service Center hosted an All-District Video contest for students attending ESC-member school districts. Schools were encouraged to use this as an educational opportunity with their student to create a short video promoting their school District. Students at the Scioto County Career Technical Center produced the winning video. A panel of judges reviewed the entries for their video and audio quality, performance, graphics, originality and more. The video was made and edited by a team of SCCTC students.
Entries were submitted by CTC, Bloom-Vernon, Green, Minford and
Wheelersburg schools. Congratulations to the CTC students !!!
Pictured on the right are the students who participated in creating the video.
