● Finsta- fake instagram accounts, these accounts usually are associated with a clever pseudonym and bio line, different than their real Instagram
● Getting Likes- can be competitive, stressful● Geolocation- turn off (Ghost mode)● Privacy- set as private as possible

What does SMS staff do?● Staff at Scarborough Middle School follows the procedures outline the in School Board Policy JICK.
● Cell phones are not to be used during the school day without explicit permission of the teacher.
● Scarborough Schools uses a filter and monitoring product called GoGuardian on school issued devices
● 6th Grade Students receive direct instruction about digital citizenship including cyberbullying and cyber safety.
● 7th and 8th grade students participate in follow-up digital citizenship activities.
● Student advocacy provides staff with resources to have bullying and cyberbullying discussions with students during CREW.
What Can Parents Do?
4 Ways to Help Teens Avoid Digital Harassment
● Monitor your children’s digital and online interactions.
● Check what they post, the apps they use, and the sites they
visit.
● Know the social media accounts your kids are using.
● Know your kids’ passwords to their cell phones and social
media accounts — at least for young kids and preteens.
● Use the privacy and security settings on all devices, apps,
and websites.
● Talk to your kids about their social media use, their feelings,
and their friends.
● Create technology or “tech” contracts.
● Keep computers and other electronics in common spaces.
