Would-be stallholders who want to be a part of the exciting future of Scarborough’s transformed market are being
invited to get some free advice on how to do it.
The market is holding a special advice session for anyone interested in taking a temporary or permanent stall in the
market or ‘the Vaults’.

Council’s Investment Manager will host a session in the market to offer help and advice to anyone considering setting
up a market business.
The market is looking for new stallholders to add fresh life to Scarborough’s market following its current £2.7m
transformation.
Councillor Bill Chatt, Scarborough Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Public Health and Housing, said: “We know
there are people out there with brilliant ideas that would add something new and exciting to the revamped market and
we want to meet them.
“This session will provide the help they might need to take the next step and begin the process of setting up a business
in the market. We look forward to seeing what wonderful ideas people are coming up with to be a part of an exciting
new era for the market.”
As work edges towards completion of the redevelopment, bosses have launched a prospectus for anyone who is
interested in being a part of the market’s future. It offers a range of different shop and stall units, in the main market
hall or on the mezzanine upper floor and in ‘the Vaults’. They range from temporary, daily stalls to permanent shop
units.
Meanwhile work on the £2.7m revamp of the St Helen’s Square market is continuing. The creation of the new
mezzanine upper floor is almost complete and work on the main market hall is progressing well, with some of the
newly-created units expected to be occupied in the coming weeks.
Interest in the available units is growing and anyone interested in taking one is asked to go along to the advice session
or get in touch with Scarborough Borough Council as soon as possible.

Scarborough’s historic market is getting a £2.7m redevelopment to take it into the 21st century whilst still retaining its
original character.
The transformation has been made possible thanks to a £2.7m grant from the Coastal Communities Fund, administered
by the Big Lottery Fund.
The building is getting a complete makeover, with a new mezzanine floor added, to create space for new shops,
offices and a café.
New shops are being created in the ground floor market building and the first of these units are being occupied.
It is hoped that some new traders will be joining existing market stalls to give the redeveloped market a fresh new
feel.
The market is also to get an exciting new website.

Scarborough Market Hall & Vaults will be rocking with a pulsating Samba beat on Saturday 20th August when we host
our Rio Carnival afternoon to celebrate the Olympics in Brazil!
Children from age 5 to 15 are invited to come take part in our samba band run by Ernie from the SJT. These percussion
jams are FREE and lots of fun – no experience necessary. They’ll take place at 1.30 and 2.30 at the side entrance to the
Vaults. Just drop by and join in, or reserve a place in person on the day.
And that’s not all… Come along and make your own carnival mask too from 1pm to 3pm!
