A year on Scarn consists of 400 days. In the current and most common AV ( After Victory )calendar, it is divided into 16 months, each honoring two aspects of the eight divinities. Eachmonth has 25 days, two weeks of eight days and one week of nine.

The days are: Corday, Madraday, Taniday, Hedraday, Wildday, Charday, Belsaday and Vanday. The final week of each month holds the extra day of Denday, sometimes called Landsday, tohonor Denev.

The MoonsScarn has two moons, but only one is granted a name. The orb called

Belsameths moon passes through a full cycle every 25 days, and it is said thatManawe, goddess of the seas, commands the ocean tides to rise and fall in honor of her half-sister.

The second moon is called the nameless Orb or the Grey Moon when it is called anything. Corean decreed that the moon should not be named or mentioned, and across Ghelspad it is considered a symbol of death and ill omen. Its cycle is four months plus one day. Every six and one-quarter years the two moons are full onthe same night, widely considered to be a time of catastrophic events, horror and disaster. On such nights, the commoners of Ghelspad pray behind locked doors, and even the brave and wise feel a deep sense of unease and fear.

The ZodiacThe cycle is balanced, though not precisely ordered, following each other in some strange order.

    Each sign represents an entity, not quite gods but more than simple outsiders, they represent thecelestial order remade after the Divine and Titanswar. They are in the following order: Ursos, theBear (Corot); Lycaeus, the Wolf (Tanot); Rukha, the Roc (Enkilot); Sikklos, the Scythe (Belot);Destrios, the Warhorse (Chardot); Khepira, the Scarab (Madrot); Imperatus, the Emperor (Hedrot);Drachys, the Dragon (Vangalot); Charys, the Siren (Charder); Astarra, the Mother (Madrer);

Kylos, the Wheel (Enker); Malneus, the Hammer (Corer); Delphos, the Dolphin (Taner); Vespis, the Bat (Belsamer); Turros, the Tower (Hedrer); Nekheros, the Vulture (Vanger).

Carnival of Flowers: Held on the second Wildday of Tanot, it features feasts, hunts, music

and dance honoring Tanil the Huntress.

Festival of the Sun: Falls on the summer solstice, typically the second Vanday of Madrot.

During the festival, the faithful give thanks to Madriel and ask that she bless them with a bounti-

    ful harvest.

Feast of Wheat: Marks the autumn equinox and takes place on the second Belsaday of

Madrer. Once more the goddess Madriel is honored, as is Enkili, who is thought to control the

winter weather. On this day, the dead are also honored with prayers and ceremonies dedicated

    to Belsameth.

Grim Day: The shortest day of the year is observed on the second Vanday of Belsamer. On

this day the faithful perform acts of penance and atonement, in solemn ritual intended to cleanse

their souls in the coming year.

Divinities Day: Celebrated on the first Corday of Chardot, in which Corean and Chardun areinvoked as gods of war. Festivities include great mock battles, feasts and dramatic recreations of

the events of the Divine War. In recent years, Divinities Day has served as the focal point of a

movement to end the practice and use of arcane magic. In Darakeene, those passionately support-

ing this movement have marred the days celebration with violence against arcanists, claiming it

    symbolizes the destruction of Mesos.

Longnight: A Hollowfaustian festival held on the winter solstice. Its citizens celebrate it by

remaining awake all night, drinking hot brews and exchanging stories. Some wealthy households

invite the citys best storytellers into their Longnight celebrations and award prizes to the one whotells the longest and most fascinating story.

Gray Night: A Hollowfaustian festival held every 101 days, when the Nameless Orb is full.

Condemned by most priests, it honors the cycles of the world, in particular the ebb and flow of

    magical energies.

Carnival of Masks: Begins at sunset on the last day of Corer and ends when the eastern skies

grow lighter, just before dawn, on the first day of Taner. During this night, Hollowfausters wear

masks; by assuming the roles of ghosts, evil spirits and monsters for a night, the citizens symboli-

cally personify the lands worst aspects, asserting they are not victims awaiting a predator. They

become one with the dead validating their right to live on the ruins of ancient Sumara.

The Shelzari borrowed this Hollowfaust holy day and turned it into a debauched citywide car-

nival festival. Citizens don masks and the city goes wild. Food, liquor, and drugs are consumed

openly and in abundance, and public fornification with numerous anonymous strangers is com-

monplace. Naturally, Hollowfausters tend to view this perversion of their holiday with disdain.

There have been a number of calendars, but it was theLedean Empire which sought

a unified calendar. For pur- poses of showing some of the different cultures of theworld they are listed below:

Calendar of Axes: The DwarvenImperium utilized the phrase Axeyearin its dating system, as in Axeyear 147.

Axeyear One marks the date of the greatcouncil overseen by Goran of the Axes. The last year of the Dwarven Calendar wasAxeyear 1189, which saw the destruction of the Great Citadel of the Imperium. Axeyear One was approximately -9261 OC.

Serpentreckoning: The calendar of the Asaathi Empire, Year One Serpentreckoning marked the founding of the First City in the swamps of Kan Thet. Year One Serpentreckoning wasapproximately -5610 OC.

Vera-Tre: Their calendar traces back to the founding of their kingdom in the Ganjus Forest. The years are measured in rings, one hundred of which make up a cycle, each of which isnamed after one of the treant patrons of the elven nation. This cycle broke during the Divine& Titanswar, though was reset in 1 AV with the cycle of Khourostannar, a treant who led thedefense of Denev against the forces of Mormo. The current year is 50 Ylriannkathlis, named for the mentor-treant of the current Verdant Seat. It is unknown by sages when this reckoning system

began, and its whispered that such lore may have ben lost to the elves during the War.Imperial Calendar: From the Empire of Flame, Year One IC marks the founding of the

Empire. This calendar ended in 837 IC, with the destruction of the Imperial House by theSlarecians. Year One IC was approximately -1116 OC.

    Old Calendar (OC

): Also called the Ledean Calendar, Year One marks the rise of the ThreeGenerals of Aurimar to power. This calendar ended in 3529 OC, marking the end of the Divine& Titanswar. All time has been recorded using the New Calendar since.

New Calendar ( AV ): The years of the New Calendar are noted as AV, or After Victory.Year One of the New Calendar marks the remaking of the world by the gods. The New Calendar is the current calendar; with the current year as 150 AV.

The elves found the first of their cities in northern Termana, eventually evolving into theempire of Eldura-tre, a peaceful but powerful alliance of elves and dragons. Their god standswith them, and brings prosperity to their empire, and the titan Mesos shares many of hissecrets, making elven wizards the most powerful on the continent.

0 OCA sophisticated civilization arises in the Gamulganjus, the jungle lands of southeasternTermana. Consisting of numerous warring city-states, this civilization worships the titans,

particularly Hrinruuk, Mormo and Chern. The Ledean Empire is founded with the Triumn Dynasty ; begun with the rule of the Threegenerals of Aurimar, the Triumn Dynasty truly began with the marriage of Emperor Knoriv,a son of one of the generals, to Ylia, the daughter of another. These were arguably the gloryyears of the empire, with Dara and Veridan Provinces being incorporated into the empire.

End of the Triumn dynasty and beginning of the Vhaerith dynasty. Known for its service

to Mesos and the number of sorcerers in its ranks, the Vhaerith dynasty saw the creationof the Coventacle of the Ancients, the outlawing of god-worship, and the annexation of theAmalthean and Venirian Provinces.

Beginning of the Morian Dynasty; founded when the Princes of the Venirian Provincerebelled and assassinated the entirety of the Vhaerith family, the Morian Dynasty came to

power because they were closely related to the Vhaerith and were the first of take action

against the rebels of the Venirian Province. They allied with the sultan of Shai al Hazari, who joined his lands with the Ledean Empire, forming the Zathiskite Province and allowingthe empires troops to squelch the uprising in the Venirian Province. The admission of theZathiskite SamMarith family into Ledean nobility proved to be the Morians undoing, assoon as the Venirian Province was pacified, the Zathiskite nobility used their command over genies and fire magics to overthrow the Morian dynasty. (507 OC - 527 OC)

The SamMarith dynasty is perhaps the first that could be called truly decadent, with theEmperor technically maintaining Aurimar as the capital of Lede, despite his continued dwell-ing in Elz. The imperial family exercised its new power to destroy its hated ancestral enemies,

the noble family of the Southern Kingdoms. The Legions march on these kingdoms and overthrow of the royal family created Calas Province. (527 OC - 732 OC)

The Takhuul dynasty; the first of these was the most powerful family in Aurimar, aided by theCoventacle of the Ancients, overthrew the Zathiskite Emperor, seizing power and foundinga new dynasty with promises of further expansion of the empire unmotivated by excesses or

petty personal feuds. The Gharian and Vascan Provinces are founded during this time, thanksto the Takhuuls draconian expansionistic fervor. (732 OC - 820 OC)

Beginning of the Albriannin Dynasty; a family of the Veridan which managed to gain power

for a short time, their clumsy management of imperial resources led to famine and plague inareas of the empire. In short order, they were deposed by revolt from within the empire, and the Takuuls placed back upon the throne. (820 OC - 847 OC)

The Second Takuul dynasty saw the creation of the Caminian Province. In time, however, the family fell into decadence, notably the abuse of julka weed and lotus extracts, as well asmore exotic magical indulgences (including the sexual violation of bound angelic beings, according to the histories remaining of the time). The empire eventually came under attack byseemingly innumerable barbarian hordes from the Great Wilds, Albadia, and the Orcmarches, spurred by divine powers sickened at the imperial excesses. The Empire of Lede came dan-

gerously close to falling, though it was saved by the tactical genius of the Ombael generals, who overthrew the Takhuul Emperors who refused to see the gravity of the situation. (847OC - 1176 OC)

    1200 OC

After several years of drought, crop failures, and suffering at the hands of the titans, the

people of the jungle cities rise up and throw down their priest-kings, and embrace the worship

of the gods. the civilization begins a long decline.

1176 OC - 2430 OCThe Ombael dynasty begins, founding an empire based on military excellence. They spent thefirst century of their rule reversing the damage that Takhhul excesses had inflicted upon theempire. Two branches of the family gradually developed, one a line of half-orcs renowned for their combat prowess and patronage of the Legion of Ash, the other a line of sorcerers withties to the Seats of Mormo and Mesos in the Coventacle of Ancients. (1176 OC - 1580 OC)

The Ombaels were overthrown by a family that could trace its lineage back to the Takhuuls. The Mangarith-Khuul dynasty was supported by a strong druidic faction within the Coventacle. It outlawed the practice of sorcery and stripped those of orcish blood of their citizenship, making them second-class citizens at best, non-entities at worst. The Coventacle nearly toreitself apart due to infighting during this time, as sorcerers tried to defend themselves againstthe druids. The Japhinian Province was claimed during this dynasty and turned into a penalcolony for sorcerers and those of orcish blood. (1580 OC - 2130 OC)

The Argent family, forced into hiding because of the preponderance of sorcerous talent intheir blood, rose up and overthrew the Mangarith-Khuul dynasty. The Argent dynastys reignwas short, due to its tyrannical and decadent ways, taxing the provinces heavily in order tofund its excesses. Rebellion grew in the latter half of the dynasty, with Calas, Gharia, and Zathiskite Provinces erupting in open revolt, pulling away from the empire proper. (2130 OC- 2275 OC)

Open rebellion sees the destruction of the Argent dynasty at the hands of the remnants of theCoventacle of Ancients (now referred to as the Cult of the Ancients). Throughout the Thaeldynasty, provinces break off from the empire, despite attempts by the Thael family to reignin the shattering of Lede. By the last decade of the Thael dynasty, the only place to still hold allegiance to the Emperor of Lede is Aurimar itself, which quickly comes under attack byAlbadian barbarians, destroying the Thael dynasty and the bureaucracy of Thael. Because scholars consider them the last line of rulers in Aurimar, they are accounted as the final dynasty, despite the factthat the Ledean Empire proper fell with the end of the Thael dynasty.
