SCALP TINGLING IN PATIENTS ON LABETALOL

And Micturition Difficulties TooFollowing a report of scalp tingling in 2 patients after orallabetalol [see /npharma No. 101:p8 (27 Aug /977)1 another case isreported in a 56-year-old woman with severe hypertension. She felt ill , with an unpleasant prickly sensation in her scalp for about60 minutes. after 1.5mg/kg labetalol IV. The scalp tingling recurred. with a severe visual aura. 60 minutes after her first IOOmgtablet of lllbetalol II days later . The symptoms settled after 48 hours and she has continued on the drug without problems.Another patient had the same prickly sensation allover his body after 0.7mg / kg labetalol IV. associated with dizziness and strongdesire and inability to void urine. The micturition problem has also been noted 3 times in a young diabetic with end-stage chronicrenal failure after a single dose of IOOmg PO.
