UPDATED TEST DESIGN SUMMARIES The test design summaries have been
updated to include more information about testing time and technology enhanced items (TEIs). A general description of TEIs, the percentage of each computer-based test comprised of TEIs, and how TEIs will (or will not) appear on the paper-based versions of the tests.
3RD GRADE UPDATES

INSTRUCTIONAL IMPLICATIONS
Further analyze MYA data to examine the full range of the tested standard
Use the Item Specifications to determine the specific task demands of the standards
Instruct students using ALL of the instructional resources (FSA Task Cards, Open Response Questions, etc.)
Create an Instructional Focus Calendar by class for DI
FSA TEST PREPARATION

TRAINING TESTS (CBT)• The Training tests on the FSA Portal (linked) have
been updated. The sample items are the same but the tests now have the same “look and feel” that the operational computer-based tests will have in the spring.
• For example, the navigation buttons are in a slightly different place; the formula button shows which formulas are available on a given test (if applicable); students can now skip items and are warned that there are unanswered items if they try to submit.
• Training tests with the text-to-speech accommodation are still being finalized and will be released in sufficient time for students to practice prior to the spring assessments.
FLORIDA ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT SYSTEM (ELFAS)
• The K-8 ELA Formative Assessments are now available to all Florida teachers through Single Sign On (SSO) and can be accessed through www.fldoe.org/sso under Resources & Assessments.
• The ELFAS is a database of K-8 formative assessment tasks and professional development information.
GENERAL FSA TIPS
• Share the updated test blueprints with staff with an emphasis on pages 11 and 12
• Provide teachers with samples of each item type in order to teach students the item types explicitly
• Schedule simulation sessions for teachers and students in the computer lab where students take the FSA training test online to do the following:
• Familiarize themselves with the navigation buttons• Questions• Item types
• FSA Test preparation has been embedded in the 3rd quarter pacing guide for both Reading and Writing
• The ELFAS can be used to find standards based activities with graphic organizers and open response questions for additional remediation and/or enrichment
• Schedule an FSA Parent Informational Night for grades 3-5
FSA WRITING COMPONENT TIPS
• Conduct targeted Writing mini lessons• Mini lessons are available on our website
• Writing conferencing• Peer Editing with checklist• Spend more time on revision and editing• Provide specific corrective feedback to
students during the “draft” process• Build stamina for Writing-Give students
60-90 minutes to write to the prompt independently
FSA READING TIPS
• Conduct “Close Read” of all three selections from McGraw Hill
• Answer open response questions• Provide corrective feedback on the
three open response questions to ensure students met the standard
• Use task cards to create additional questions related to the instructional focus standard
• Use test taking strategies
• ALL ELLs must participate in ALL State and District assessments.
• Starting with the 2014-2015 school year, ELLs with a Date Entered US Schools (DEUSS) less than two years will NOT count toward school grade.
• Office of Civil Rights (OCR) recommends that schools clearly articulate to parents why this date is collected and how the information will be used (education purposes only: e.g., accountability and/or cumulative enrollment for immigrant).
(DEUSS Briefing # 15131)
Date Entered US Schools (DEUSS)
SOCIAL SCIENCES- DDEOC’S FOR K-5
To comply with FLS 1008.22(4) which requires that student progress be assessed in all courses offered in Florida Public Schools, Social Sciences has updated K-5 Pacing Guides and Timelines to include the following:
• DDEOC testing window is from May 11- June 5, 2015.• Benchmarks that are included on the DDEOC Assessments are
highlighted in both the K-5 pacing guides and timelines posted on http://socialsciences.dadeschools.net .
• Best practices in terms of preparing students are to engage in review activities focusing on content and skills from the highlighted benchmarks prior to the assessments.
• Teachers are encouraged to plan collaboratively in backwards planning- i.e., work from the start date of the test to ensure appropriate time is available for review and mastery of DDEOC assessed benchmarks.
