it. They understand what this new environment is about, because education needs
to change and for many reasons it hasn’t for hundreds of years around the world.
But at SCAD, it has.”

SCAD’S
In 2010, SCAD founded the Collaborative Learning Center (CLC) to serve
as a dedicated venue for active learning and collaboration. The CLC engages
students in real-world projects with top businesses, major organizations,
and distinguished artists seeking real, actionable solutions to their creative
challenges. Each project is grounded in a for-credit course, giving students an
exciting opportunity to combine their studies with a meaningful professional
venture. Multidisciplinary teams are assembled to cater to the specific needs
posed by each project. While a lead discipline is often designated for each
project, the CLC encourages and facilitates coordination between multiple
SCAD departments. The CLC provides a superior collaborative environment
and fosters learning opportunities that set SCAD students apart from all other
university graduates. For external partners, the CLC offers authentic interaction
with a forward-thinking, talented group of top students and expert faculty that
produces innovative design solutions for the marketplace.
COLLABORATIVE LEARNING CENTER
As a partner of the CLC, your vision will be translated into actuality. You will
work side-by-side with a diverse team of students who’s creative talents are
cultivated by award winning and highly credentialed SCAD faculty. In addition
to the teeming pool of SCAD’s students, you will have access to SCAD’s
state-of-the-art technology and facilities, which rival many of the foremost
companies in the world.
The CLC is available to creatively augment an existing project or help develop
a new one. For each project, the CLC provides a qualified team to explore
markets, target demographic groups, establish brand guidelines, solve design
issues, create an integrated execution strategy, and more.
SCAD HAS PARTNERED WITH NUMEROUS NATIONAL
AND INTERNATIONAL BRANDS, WORLD-RENOWNED
DESIGNERS, AND FORTUNE 500 COMPANIES FOR
COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS.
SPONSORED PROJECTS+ PARTNERSHIPS
The CLC has developed a proven process for collaborative projects that significantly enhances student learning, and yields
results that directly reflect the expectations of the external partner. Each project ultimately brings a dynamic experience
or product to the consumer marketplace through a process that resonates positively with all contributing parties.
PROJECT KICK-OFF
Each project begins with an in-class engagement between students, faculty, and external partners to present the creative
brief and communicate the goals, expectations, and pertinent information for the project.
RESEARCH + EXPLORATION
The student teams delve into researching markets, trends, and competitors as they explore and develop a wide variety
of methods, concepts, and strategies.
DESIGN CRITIQUE
A mid-point engagement is conducted for each team to present concepts and for external partners to offer targeted
feedback and solidify each team’s direction moving forward.
SYNTHESIS + PROOF OF CONCEPT
Teams synthesize their concepts and strategies, further refine their designs, and begin production on their prototype or
proof of concept.
FINAL PRESENTATION
The creative process culminates with a third in-class engagement, where the CLC students and faculty present their final
design solutions, implementation strategies, and proofs of concept to the external partner.
Through this versatile five-step process, the CLC successfully conducts each project to produce a rewarding experience
and tangible results. The final designs not only offer innovative solutions to the initial design challenge, but also provide
a comprehensive and cohesive strategy for future success.
