President’s Message

Good day, neighbours! Updates from the Stonebridge Community Association: our Annual General Meeting was in September, where a new executive was voted in, and some amendments were made to our bylaws. One change that we’ve made is to move our AGM to April instead of September, to avoid having a board changeover right at the beginning of our fall activities. So, look out for another AGM announcement coming up in the new year!

We had another successful Movie in the Park event in September, which is a favourite for many of our Stonebridge residents. A huge thank you to all our sponsors and volunteers for making this a successful event. Next up is our Trade and Craft Show on Saturday, November 25th in Chief Whitecap School Gym, from 10am to 4pm, which is a great start to the holiday season!

Winter programming is coming up, with registration beginning online on December 27th and programs starting up in January. More details are available in this newsletter, with updates on our website as they come available – ourstonebridge.ca.

We are always looking for further support and volunteers to help with community events and initiatives. With increased volunteer support your community can provide more services. The community association has been approached with the idea of organizing a community patrol, or fundraising for a skating rink, so if you would like to volunteer to head up either of these programs, please let me know at [email protected]. It takes volunteers like you to transform ideas into action.

Always look to our website for the latest community and civic news, City of Saskatoon updates, and programs offered by the community association. You can also follow our community association page on Facebook for notifications on what we’ve got coming up.

Stonebridge Schools Updates

Chief Whitecap School

Greetings to all who are a part of our Chief Whitecap family!

It has been a great school start-up and first month of school. We have learned much about building new

relationships, learning new routines and what it means to be part of an unprecedented school opening. We

thank Donny Speidel for his support in arranging for the amazing cultural display at our opening ceremony,

our partners at Whitecap Dakota First Nation who put on a fantastic BBQ for us on our special day, as well as

the many dignitaries who joined us. It was a great way to celebrate our official start together. There have

been minor bumps in the road as we learn together but the success of this last month has been because of

the support of our families, staff, partners, and students who have come together with a positive attitude and

a collaborative spirit.

An extra thank you also goes out to our Parent Council, School Community Council, Parent Playground

Committee members, and all of you who have volunteered your time in some way. We had our first official

SCC meeting on September 20 where we voted in members who will take on an official role on these

committees.

We have been working hard as a school to learn school-wide expectations and how to be a good friend, a

safe student, and a productive learner. We have been learning about respect through our cultural liaison

workers during our invitational morning smudges and in our classrooms.

Kindergarten Open House

Tuesday, January 16, 2018 from 6:30 – 8 pm we are having a Parent Open House for all children turning 5 as

of January 31, 2019. We invite families who live in the Stonebridge and Willows neighborhoods to come meet

our administration and teachers who will explain the kindergarten program at Chief Whitecap School. We are

accepting registrations for the 2018-2019 school year.

Friends of Chief Whitecap Playground Fundraising Committee

The committee has been working hard raising money for our senior playground with Steak Nights and bbq’s.

Please watch for further events or visit their Facebook Page. https://www.facebook.com/CWEPlayground/

St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic School

It is hard to believe that we are already into November and preparing for Christmas here at St. Kateri Tekakwitha School. The past few months have been very busy and rewarding as we come together as a brand new community of faith and learning. So many things have been going on: extracurricular sports and clubs are in full swing, we have had school fundraisers and celebrations and we are beginning 3 way conferences and student reporting very soon. Our Catholic School Community Council has been created and is already doing many things to support the programming here. As well, our playground committee has been hard at work for one full year and the fruits of their labour are evident in our beautiful playground facility that just opened. Thank you to the community for their patience and support. Fundraising continues for a second playground as well. As we move into winter, we have many events planned-to keep up on what is happening; you can go to our website, where you will find a yearly calendar and our bi-weekly newsletters: https://www.gscs.ca/studentsandfamilies/schools/kat
