Key Terms• Natural Selection: A natural process that favors

individuals better adapted to the environment, ensuring those traits are passed to the next generation. (Ireland, 2011.)

• Adaptation: the action of being adapted. [Adapting: Make (something) suitable for a new use or purpose; modify. Become adjusted to new conditions.] (Merriam Webster dictionary, 2011.)

• Survival: the act or fact of living or continuing longer than another person or thing. The continuation of life or existence. (Merriam Webster dictionary, 2011.) In this class, we’ll consider survival as the ability of a species to “survive” or prevent extinction.

Lab Project Two

• Objective:– Learn how to develop a hypothesis, set up an

experiment, collect and analyze data and reach a conclusion.

– Assess atmospheric pollution in your area. • Materials/Methods:

– PowerPoint in DocSharing showing ideas on how to set up filter, where to put it, how to hang it, how to tack it to trees, and so forth

• This is a FOUR-WEEK project so you MUST start this week.

• First week of observations in Data Chart– Control should be the first row (observations as soon as
