STRUCON PROIECT is also involved in national research and feasibility studies of base

isolation, tuned mass damped and dissipative earthquake energy devices, to improve structural

behavior in seismic conditions. We are also involved in design development aimed at limiting

structural damage in the event of a terrorist attack (blast resistance design). We have developed

close contact with the Universities and utilize an extensive list of Verifiers.

As Romania is a seismic region we check all of our design by nonlinear analysis for collapse

prevention in order to protect lives and reduce the risk to the investment.

Focsani City Center

A €35 million shopping centre, retail area 30000mon two floors. Designed as an in-situ concrete frame on piled foundation, with a 3-D space-frame roof. Vrancea is in the Carpathian Mountains and is at the intersection of the local geological plates which has been the epicenter of all of the major Romanian earthquakes to date. Therefore designing for this region requires additional safeguards including nonlinear time history analysis. Bucharest is 150km from Vrancea where the risks are still severe but less onerous.

The planned investment is Radisson SAS Hotel in Zaporozhe, Ukraine. A thirteen storey RC frame, 23500sqm, with large cantilevered sections to form internal atria and also on the façade. Working to Ukrainian Codes presented an initial challenge which we were happy to undertake.

Drobeta Tire Plant

The new plant will be located in the existing plant and will include remodeling of the existing facility to a modern 21st century plant. The plant will include also expansion of the existing and changing of the building to accommodate new production line capabilities. The size of the site is about 190,000sqm. The project includes remodeling of the 70,000sqm existing building, as well as addition of approx. 35,000sqm. The plant will employ about 500 people. The re-modeling will include changes of functions in the existing plant, and in that included changes in the office bloc. Offices will accommodate about 40-50 people. Office block will include also a new hotel for company guests, as well as laboratories and the new plant dining room.

FAGARAS CASTLE – Technical expertise

First mentioned in documents in 1291, F ăgăraş became a military centre during the Middle Ages. Built in 15 C by Transylvania princes, is one of the most well preserved medieval castles in Romania. The castle has 80 rooms, and is surrounded by a deep and wide moat. The citadel was ranked among the strongest in Transylvania, standing up to Turkish and Tartar invasions. Access is made through a bridge over the defense moat. At the centre of the citadel stands the castle. It has three levels (basement, ground floor, first floor) and five towers (the Red Tower, the Black Tower, the Prison's Tower, Tomori Tower and the Motley Tower). Inside is the Museum of Fagaras Country; comprised of an archaeology section, which render the evolution of the Fagaras borough; history section, which display Roman artifacts and a collection of medieval weapons, and ethnographic section, which focus on artistic and folk crafts in the area.

COLOSSEUM Shopping Centre – Engineering consultancy STRUCON PROIECT is providing Consultancy service for Structure, Roads and Utilities connection, for the biggest retail project of South-Eastern Europe and one of the largest Shopping Centers in Europe, the “The Colosseum Shopping Centre”. A spectacular shopping and entertainment center will be created in North-West of Bucharest: The Colosseum Shopping Centre & Retail Park will comprise 140,000 square meters of covered retail space, with more than 480 shops, a huge food court counting more than 1,500 seats and 8,500 parking spaces as well as 58,000 square meters of Retail Park. Also, the entertainment facilities will create a unique and spectacular shopping world. Construction works will start at the beginning of next year on the site of 620,000 sq m.

F igure 44. Perspective view In the first phase of construction, a retail park will be built - with units ranging from 1,500 sqm to 19,500 sqm on a leasing area of 58,000 square meters. Among the tenants are well-known brands such as Carrefour hypermarket, a Flanco store, Altex, a DIY-market of Leroy Merlin and Mobexpert also. The investment volume for the whole project will exceed 350 million Euro. The investor of The Colosseum will spend an additional amount of 30 million Euro to improve the surrounding roads and public transport. A modern traffic solution will offer an easy access to the shopping center. Additionally a bus station and a tram station will be located within the center.
