South Baltic Training Programme in brief

Launched in May 2012,

the South Baltic Training

Programme (SBTP) supports

internationalisation of

vocational education and

training (VET) as well as cross-

border entrepreneurship

between business, VET

education and VET students.

The project also aims to

educate the youth labour

force in the South Baltic

region in international

corporate culture and work

for this group’s mobility

between countries. The area

of operations is Germany,

Lithuania, Poland, Denmark

To start with the students participate in an introduction week fol-lowed by three weeks internship abroad at the host-company. Both students and FRPSDQLHV�DUH�RƪHUHG�FRDFKLQJ�LQ�RUGHU�WR�support the development of joint co-oper-ation projects.

holder seminars for target groups such as providers of VET, companies, politicians and civil servants involved in VET. The seminars will address relevant topics to identify needed actions in order to sup-port internationalisation of VET education and cross-border entrepreneurship in the 6RXWK�%DOWLF�UHJLRQ���$�ƬQDO�VHPLQDU�ZLOO�EH�held in Denmark for dissemination of the project results.

the challenge

A common labour market is now forming again in the Baltic Sea region. The mobil-ity of labour is increasing and calls for skills uniformity and more knowledge about the region. New market conditions will allow the development of cross border entrepreneur-ship and involving skilful and integrated labour force in various spheres of business.

Schools and other institutions providing vocational training needs to adapt to the new market conditions in order to give an

adequate response to the market needs. The question of internationalisation of vocational education and training (VET) is not a matter of choice but a matter of necessity.

The aim of South Baltic Training Programme is to recreate this mobility of young students in what today is the vocational training. In order to give students new knowledge, experiences and contacts that they might not ƬQG�LQ�WKHLU�KRPH�FRXQWU\��7KH�DLP�LV�DOVR�WR�collect inspiration and results from the work that has been done in the South Baltic and develop these ideas further on.

SBTP gives students in advanced vocational education an opportunity to take part in international training and internship abroad in order to develop their professional skills and knowledge of the South Baltic region. At the same time the participating companies are given the opportunity to get to know a new market.

We are all close neighbours with a rapid development of our relations. The companies are as always the front-runners but all sectors of our societies are now establishing new relations or re-establishing relations from before the cold war era.

Being close neighbours has the advantage of short distances between us both in relations to transports but equally important in rela-tions to understanding each other’s cultures and values.

All of us are relatively small countries depending on export of our products. Our home markets are simply to small in order to be the motor needed for feeding modern welfare states.

The conclusion is that we need to create a stronger home market among ourselves in the South Baltic region. A market with no borders and a wide spread understanding of doing business with each other and to develop cross-border entrepreneurship. A strong South Baltic home market will be an arena for our companies where they can train and develop joint businesses able to compete on the global market.
