Percussion started their season with a 69.45 and the Guard started with a 68.62. Fabulous job kids! Keep up the great work as we

continue to finish the productions and move forward into your seasons.

We will be going over volunteer assignments, preparations for the event, and answer any questions. A list of discussion notes and updated documents will be updated and uploaded to the Home Show BAND App. (Contact Brian Johnson at [email protected] if you need an invite). We need 6 or more additional student volunteers / alumni, to help with hand stamping & guiding units to warm-ups / performance.

24th ANNUAL SOMERSET ALL-DISTRICT STRING FESTIVAL: STUDENT SCHEDULE

4:15 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. 4th – 8th grade students arrive

4:30 p.m. – Rehearsals begin

Grade 4 – Gym Grade 5 – Room 132 – Chorus Room Grade 6 – Room 131 – Band Room Grades 7/8 – Room 131 – Performing Arts Center (leave cases, etc. in house LEFT seats and stage) High School leaves belongings in Distance Learning Center then go to Gym for rehearsal

5:25 p.m. – 4th Grade bring belongings to PAC and leave for dinner (leave belongings in seats - house center)

5:30 p.m. – 5th Grade brings chairs and wire stands to Gym and leave for dinner (Mr. Monte conducting)

5:35 p.m. – 6th / 7th / 8th Grades bring chairs and wire stands to Gym and leave for dinner (Mrs. Rausch conducting)

5:45 p.m. – High School rehearses in Gym (Wenger Music Stands)

6:15 p.m. – Students return to Gym

6:20 p.m. – Finale Rehearsal

4th Grade will put stuff away in the PAC while 5th Grade performs then return to sit in Gym bleachers to watch remainder. All other groups sit in chairs and remain during other performances

WINTER PERCUSSION, GUARD & HORNLINE @ SBRHS NESBA HOMESHOW 3/18/18: Winter Percussion, Guard and Hornline will report at 7:30 a.m. and will split rehearsal times in the gym.

Event runs from Noon to 4:00 p.m.

Specific make-up, uniform, and warm-ups times will be up to unit directors.

Performance times: SBRHS Winter Hornline – Noon SBRHS Winter Percussion – 12:55 p.m. Percussion Awards – 1:24 p.m. SBRHS Winter Color Guard – 2:58 p.m. Guard Awards – 3:36 p.m.

All members must remain at the school to help clean-up after the event Anticipated dismissal is 5:00 p.m.

Pre-Trip Meeting Date – Final Meeting with World Class Vacations will take place on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 @ 7:00 p.m. in the SBRHS Performing Arts Center. All participants and parents should plan to be there to receive all of the last minute, important details for the trip.

BAND App – All communication on the Trip between directors, staff, chaperones and participants will take place using the BAND App. You will need to join our “SBRHS 2018 Disney Trip” BAND App group. We ask that students, chaperones and participants on the trip only use the CHAT function (Public or Private) to communicate with each other or the staff on the BAND App Group. Directors and Staff will POST on the page to get general minute to minute instructions to the group. If students, chaperones, and participants begin to POST in the group, the important instructions will be sent further and further down the feed, making it less accessible. DISNEY TOUR 2018 APRIL 20 – 24, 2018

CONTRACT

Please print and return to the Music Department as soon as possible or by October 13th, 2017 with your first payment. Student Name ............................................................ Instrument/Guard ............................................... I hereby acknowledge and accept the following rules regarding the 2018 Disney Trip. I agree to abide by these rules and all other policies which have been adopted or may be adopted in the future by the Music department regarding this event. I understand that the policies of the Somerset Berkley Music Department presented earlier in the year (and approved by the Somerset Berkley School Committee) will be adhered to. I also promise that I will: 1. Learn all music/drill/routines to the best of my ability. 2. Attend all rehearsals and performances on time. An Excused Absence Form must accompany all absences and be

presented to your director 2 weeks ahead of time. Any failure to attend a rehearsal or continued absences without good reason may constitute grounds for exclusion.

3. Cooperate fully with chaperones and all other administrative officials. 4. Neither use nor have in my possession at any time alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, illegal drugs or any substances

forbidden per the SBRHS Student Handbook. 5. Stay in designated housing facility throughout the duration of the Trip. 6. Not request a room change. 7. Not be in an unassigned room without the permission of a chaperone. 8. Not use the Hotel Room telephones except in case of an emergency. 9. Not participate in pranks or vandalism of any kind. If I damage any property, my parents and/or I will assume full financial

responsibility. (Damage to any Hotel Room may be assessed equally among those students assigned to the room). 10. Be in my assigned room at curfew time and remain in my assigned room until wake-up time (unless I am otherwise

granted permission by an assigned chaperon). 11. Conduct myself courteously and appropriately at all times. 12. It is understood that I signed this contract that I plan to be part of this Trip. The cost of the trip is based on 200

participants. Therefore, any change in this number will increase the price of the trip divided among the remaining students.

13. Abide by all decisions made by appropriate Music Instructors / Officials and obey all regulations listed above as well as any other regulations which may be implemented in the future by the group leaders.

14. Dress in an appropriate manner. No questionable attire will be allowed. I understand that membership in the Somerset Berkley Regional High School music department is a privilege and that membership will be forfeited if I fail to comply with any of the above rules. If it is necessary that I be sent home from Disney, my parents and school officials will be notified, and my parents will be asked to provide immediate transportation home. AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

1. All instrumentalists will be asked to perform a prepared solo, 1 – 2 minutes in length, which best exhibits

your prowess and talent on your instrument. This solo can be of any style but should be a challenging solo

equal in difficulty to a district level piece.

2. All instrumentalists will be required to sight-read a short selection from either the musical or a passage similar

in style to the show’s score.

3. THIS IS THE ONLY DATE FOR AUDITIONS!!! MAKE YOURSELF AVAILABLE IF YOU ARE NOT!!!

We need to know what instruments we will not have for the show in order to start to hire professional sit-ins.

Therefore we need to know immediately what our student instrumentation is! For students with scheduling

difficulties, I will try to help by allowing you to audition either earlier or later, depending upon your schedule.

However, you must audition after school on Monday January 26, 2018!

ALL ACCEPTED STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO MAKE ALL REHEARSALS WITH THE

EXCEPTION OF LEGITIMATE 2 WEEK OR EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION.

1. Please eat a healthy breakfast, make arrangements to bring a lunch/snack (healthy food, i.e. fruits, sandwiches and water) for after rehearsal, and bring money for concession after our performances!

2. NESBA only assigns a few extra staff badges for entrance to the performance area. We will designate those to parents that are helping the ensembles on and off the performance area. All others will have to pay admission to the event which is $10 for adults and $8 for students
