8. Historical significance

This dam was bui lt on concrete, of rubble masonry with quarry-faced stone facing, and dressed stone crest. Its nearly circular shape provides a 150' overfall , augmented by an 8' wide central opening controlled with stop planks. Its function is to maintain an 8' depth in the western portion of Sudbury Reservoir below the open channel during periods when the overall water level is reduced. Contractor for the dam was Holbrook, Cabot and Daly, of Boston.
