Instructions to students.

General instructions for all assignments:

Prepare the assignment in a word processor document and submit it via the student

portal to Turnitin.

Your name, student ID, and page number should be included in the footer of eachpage of the assignment document body.

An abstract, references, and table of contents should be included. A list of figures,

bibliography, and nomenclature should also be included if required.

Start each question on a new page in the document and provide a heading for each

question. Paginate your document so that it is neatly presented.

The cover page should include your name, student ID, module name, cohort,

semester, and assignment title.

The assignment must be submitted on or before the due date specified by thestudent portal / course outline. There are no extensions granted except in the case of

serious illness or injury, which must be supported by medical documentary

evidence presented to the course administrator.

Collusion and copying are not allowed. Each assignment must be done entirely by

you. There are severe penalties for copying and collusion including loss of marks inthe assignment, failing the entire subject, or dismissal from the course.

Outside materials may be used in assignments but all such material must be quotedand referenced if included verbatim. In general you should present your ideas and

understanding in your own words. If quotations are used they are expected to beminimal, and paraphrasing should also be avoided.

Specific Instruction for this assignment:

All questions in this assignment are to be answered in written English using a word

processor. Use a proportionally spaced font such as Times Roman 12 point for

normal, essay-type written answers.

Credit will be given on the basis of the content of the assignment with regard to thequality of the work, its presentation, and also evidence of research and reading

done.

Absence of referencing would automatically attract a fail grade.

Assignment

Computers are changing every aspect of our lives from entertainment to shopping, from the

work we do and where we do it, to how we communicate with friends and relatives. The

Internet continues to integrate deeper into our daily activities with the passing of time. It is

becoming particularly difficult, if not impossible in numerous markets, to retain leadershipwithout a considered strategy for the use of the Internet and Internet related technology in

the business.

Information systems are the foundation for conducting business today. In many industries,

survival and even existence is difficult without extensive use of information technology.

No longer can we imagine going to work and conducting business without them. As a

society we have come to rely extensively on the use of information appliances such as cellphones, iPhones, BlackBerrys, handhelds, and other hardware. Communicating and

conducting business is increasingly being carried out through the use of e-mail, online

conferencing, and international teleconferencing. Internet technologies have becomeessential business tools.

From the above two paragraphs, you can realize the importance of the usage of

Information Systems, Information technology for a company.

As an individual, you need to select a business enterprise and carry out the following task.

You may consider different business sectors like education, transportation, finance, healthand many others for your selection.

Tasks

You are required to take on the role of a consultant and

a. Analyze the information requirements at each of the decision making levels in the

management and recommend information systems at each of them to support themajor business functions of the organization and strategize its operations giving it

the required competitive edge. The information systems need to be reliable,sophisticated and user-friendly. You need to state clearly the information systems,the purpose they would serve and prioritize them. Information systems may also be

considered for managing customer relations etc.

b. If information systems already exist for your chosen company, you must evaluate

its suitability and recommend any latest technologies that would make a differenceto the firm. Otherwise, you must justify its suitability.

c. Critically evaluate the security measures that are in place for their information

system. Justify their suitability. If there is no security in place, list the software,

hardware, and procedures needed to secure their information system and justifywith reasons.

d. Information Systems involve heavy investment of software, hardware, network,

telecommunications, and security infrastructure. However, the latest developmentin providing IT solutions is through Cloud Computing. Analyse the suitability ofCloud Computing to provide Information services to the chosen company
