Summer Boarding Courses: One-to-One Tuition

Each online tuition course is developed specifically for the student.

Firstly, the student completes an online language test, and a Needs Analysis form in which the student is asked to tell us about their learning objectives, their learning style and their preference for the type of activities they enjoy doing. We then arrange a Private Consultation session with the student, where we create an individual learning profile which will outline the students’ bespoke course. you also have to sail over each of the hurdles ahead.

Courses With a Meaningful Objective

Students study Course Modules consisting of 5 lessons of online tuition per Module.

Students may choose from 1 Course Module (5 lessons) up to a maximum of 4 Course Modules (20 lessons). Each course Course Module has the objective of the student giving a Time to Shine presentation at the end of the Module. In order to prepare for the Time to Shine presentation, each Module relies on project work to be completed outside of the online classroom. This means that each lesson has approximately 1 hour of self-study project work to accompany it. For students who would like a greater, or lesser, amount of self-study, this can be discussed in their private consultation.

All project work in our SBC Online tuition courses aims to develop 21st century skills in our students. These skills can include: research skills; critical thinking skills; presentation skills; rhetorical skills and creative skills.

Lessons with a Structure for Success

The most important component of successful, challenging and meaningful online learning is that the lessons are structured in a way to maximise the learning potential. For this reason, SBC Online lessons use varied and engaging techniques and activities which allow the student to fully maximise their reading, listening, speaking and writing skills. These activities include: games; memory quizzes; speaking and listening challenges; dictations; written activities; self-study; reading activities and many more besides.

Safeguarding and Online Learning

As the only multi-campus summer school awarded the maximum 15 out of 15 strengths in a British Council inspection, we are proud to be extending our high safeguarding standards to our online tuition provision. All platforms used in our online tuition will be secure, meaning that only the student and tutor are able to access the lesson. A parent or guardian is welcome to be present in the lesson in a non-participatory manner.

Time to Shine Project Work DetailsLesson One Research Skills The student will be given a research task,

which will involve researching a given topic and preparing a mini presentation for the following day.

Lesson Two Critical Thinking Skills The student will be asked to use their critical thinking skills to asses and analyse a number of different sources, and to prepare a mini presentation on their

Lesson Three Rhetorical Skills The student will prepare to argue in favour of a given subject in a debate the following day; in the subsequent lesson the teacher and the student will discuss the best ways to structure convincing argumentation.

Lesson Four Presentation Skills The student will prepare to give a formal 5 minute presentation in the end of module Time to Shine task, utilising the research skills, critical thinking skills, rhetorical skills and presentation skills they have learned in the course.

Lesson Five End of Module Presentation The student will deliver their Time to Shine presentation to the tutor. They will receive feedback and discuss areas for them to develop after they have completed the module.

Our one-to-one tuition programmes all begin with a personal consultation, which costs £80. The cost of this is redeemable against the cost of your first module. Each module costs £400, with reductions available for multiple module bookings.

EtonX, from Eton College, provide online future skills courses to help teenagers to enhance their studies, boost their academic success today and to prepare them for a successful future in university and impress future employers. Courses are available to students aged 13 – 17.
