We would like to thank all of you for joining us for conferences in October! Whenever home and school can connect, we increase our students’ chances for success!

Save the dates: First Grade Field Trip: Tuesday, November 14th at the Botanical Garden

End of first year Presentations: 1A- December 5th at 8:30 in the Auditorium at the Main Campus 1B- December 6th at 8:30 in the Auditorium at the Main Campus1C- December 7th at 8:30 i n the Auditorium at the Main Campus

1t has been incredible watching our students’ math skills grow this quarter! They have been working hard to learn many different strategies they can use to add and subtract within 20. As we continue to practice this, we will also begin working on finding 1 more and 1 less as well as 10 more and 10 less on a 100 chart.

Our students love practicing their math skills using technology. Mathletics is a wonderful website that students use once a week at school. Log on to www.mathletics.com to access fun math games. Each student’s login information is in the front of their agenda.

Our scientist will take what they have been learning about the role of plant and animal parts and observe real plants and animals. We will look for things such as offspring, how plants are getting their needs met, and the role of different parts of the plant. Ask your child at home to explain to you the importance of the parts of plants and animals!

Desde o início do ano letivo, trabalhamos as diferenças entre ambiente doméstico, ambiente escolar e as responsabilidades de cada um em diferentes espaços.As datas comemorativas que abordaremos na segunda etapa:Dia da Bandeira: 19 de novembroDia da ConsciênciaNegra: 20 de novembro

We had a lot of fun learning about Claude Monet and were inspired by his beautiful artwork. In November we will start a project about Van Gogh. Paintings like, The Starry Night, Sunflowers, and the Bedroom in will join us in this great adventure through Van Gogh’s amazing mind.

Students will begin to shift from writing their opinions to writing to persuade. Our authors will use their words to give their opinions on topics and persuade their peers to think the same. Try it at home! Have your child persuade you to watch a movie or go to their favorite restaurant. What reasons can they give you to why it is the best choice!?

In reading we will continue to look at why authors write the books that they do. We call this author's purpose. The three purposes we are talking about in class are entertainment, information, and persuasion. When you are reading a book with your child, ask him or her why the author has written the book. We are also learning about nouns, both singular and plural. When you are out in the community with your child play I Spy to find different nouns, "I spy with my little eye something that is a thing". or, "I spy with my little eye a person". And as always, we will have our weekly spelling quizzes on Tuesdays. To help practice spelling, have him/her write each word 3 times. once with a pencil, once with a marker, and once with a crayon. When he/she is done say the words aloud. Try practicing two or three new words each night, and then review all of them the night before the quiz.
