Work Activity

“On the first day of every week, each of you is to put aside and save whatever extra you earn, so that collections need not be taken when I come.”I Corinthians 16:2

This scripture speaks to the proof of God’s priority. Every time pay has been received, a portion is pulled out and given to the Lord. Therefore, the regularity of the tithe is the dependability of the disciple.

EXERCISE TO ENCOURAGE DISCIPLESHIPBelow are lines to list what was given by you each Sunday over the last 12 weeks. This 90-day period will reflect your giving proof of God’s priority in your life. Let this be an “aha” moment that directs you to greater faith.

Put in dates and amounts for last 12 weeks.Understand, just doing this exercise will strengthen your faith.

DATE Week 1 ___________ Amount $ ___________DATE Week 2 ___________ Amount $ ___________DATE Week 3 ___________ Amount $ ___________DATE Week 4 ___________ Amount $ ___________DATE Week 5 ___________ Amount $ ___________DATE Week 6 ___________ Amount $ ___________DATE Week 7 ___________ Amount $ ___________DATE Week 8 ___________ Amount $ ___________DATE Week 9 ___________ Amount $ ___________DATE Week 10 __________ Amount $ ___________DATE Week 11 ___________ Amount $ ___________DATE Week 12 ___________ Amount $ ___________If you are a regular, sacrificial giver, be encouraged.

If not, simply “grow in grace.”

“The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” II Corinthians 9:6

Black History Moment

Born in Columbus, Ohio, on April 23, 1856, to free African Americans, Granville T. Woods received little schooling as a young man and, in his early teens, took up a variety of jobs, including as a railroad engineer in a railroad machine shop, as an engineer on a British ship in a steel mill, and as a railroad worker. From 1876 to 1878, Woods lived in New York City, taking courses in engineering and electricity, a subject that he realized, early on, held the key to the future.

While living in Cincinnati, Ohio, Woods eventually set up his own company to develop, manufacture and sell electrical apparatus, and in 1889, he filed his first patent for an improved steam boiler furnace. His later patents were mainly for electrical devices, including his second invention, and an improved telephone transmitter.

The patent for his device, which combined the telephone and telegraph, was bought by Alexander Graham Bell, and the payment freed Woods to devote himself to his own research. One of his most important inventions was the "troller," a grooved metal wheel that allowed street cars (later known as "trolleys") to collect electric power from overhead wires

Woods's most important invention was the multiplex telegraph, also known as the "induction telegraph," or block system, in 1887. The device allowed men to communicate by voice over telegraph wires, ultimately helping to speed up important communications and, subsequently, preventing crucial errors such as train accidents. Woods defeated Thomas Edison's lawsuit that challenged his patent, and turned down Edison's offer to make him a partner. Thereafter, Woods was often known as "Black Edison."

By the time of his death, on January 30, 1910, in New York City, Granville T. Woods had invented 15 appliances for electric railways. Received nearly 60 patents, many of which were assigned to the major manufacturers of electrical equipment that are a part of today's daily life

40 Day Financial FastJanuary 1 – February 9, 2014

What is a Financial Fast?Fasting is an abstinence from or a limiting of something. This Financial Fast is an abstinence from unnecessary spending of money. We will ONLY buy necessities for 40days!

PurposeTo control financial spending behaviors. We need to become more disciplined and cognizant of our spending regimes. This year we will start off by fasting and praying for financial blessing, debt relief and control over our spending.

OverviewThe 40 day fast will require you to ONLY spend money in areas of necessity.

Also, encourage you to save $1.00 per day and at the end of your fast (Sunday, February 9th), sow a $40 seed into the church to seal your sacrifice.

Scriptures for the week February 2 – February 8

February 2 – Hebrews 11:1-4February 3 – Philippians 4:13February 4 – Deuteronomy 28:8-12February 5 – III John 1:2February 6 – II Peter 1:3-8February 7 – Proverbs 17:16February 8 – Psalms 37:1-4

This week financial prayerGod, I surrender my financial affairs and concerns about money to your Divine care and love. I ask that you remove my worries, anxieties and fears about money and replace them with faith. I know and trust my debts will be paid and money will flow into my life. I have only to look to nature to see proof of the abundance you provide. I release all negative thoughts about money and know that prosperity is my true state. I commit to being grateful for all that I now have in my life. I learn to manage my finances wisely, seeking help where needed. And finally, I ask you to help me understand my purpose in life and to act on that purpose with courage and strength. I know that prosperity will come, in part, by doing work I love. Please help me use my skills and knowledge to be of service in the world… AMEN

“Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any merry? Let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up…” James 5:13-15a
