Laser System

Page 3: Saturn Active - Medial · Dr Malpani, Mumbai, India “The Saturn Active laser has been an asset for our laboratory for assisted hatching procedures. The laser has reduced the amount

RI is proud to introduce the Saturn Active laser system - the world’s first directional laser for IVF. Utilising cutting edge robotic technology, laser ablation is now truly under the user’s control. Simplyposition your embryo anywhere in the field of view, select the area of zona to be removed and fire.

Using a high power infra-red laser and a visible pilot laser transmitted through fibre-optics, the Saturn Active is the most accurate system available, using the shortest possible pulses to ensure embryo safety.

Saturn ActiveTM

Unique Computer Controlled Laser Position

Why do you need a pilot laser?

Ablation lasers are invisible, so how do you know that the laser is being delivered accurately? Quite simply, with all other laser systems you don’t. The Saturn laser is the only system to allow the user to visualise the ablation laser. Using fibre-optic technology, the shape and path of the pilot laser exactly replicates the ablation laser. This is essential for a laser system, as the images below indicate. Both lasers will make similar visible holes in the zona, but the non-optimised laser could be delivering part of the invisible, infra-red beam into critical cells. If you cannot see the exact shape and direction of the beam, you cannot guarantee that the laser is perfectly aligned.

The new Saturn Active laser system eliminates the need to move the embryo. With computer-controlled accuracy, this system allows the user to simply select the area of zona to be removed and fire.

Having the unique moveable Saturn Active laser has many advantages for all types of procedure. For Blastocyst Biopsy the Saturn Active is unparalleled in it’s ease of use. Being able to make multiple ablations across the Trophectoderm without needing to move the Blastocyst gives superb accuracy, safety and incredible speed.

For Blastomere Biopsy, you are also able to leave the embryo in the centre of the field of view and select the area of zona to be removed without manipulation. This ensures the embryo does not rotate and the perfect amount of zona can be removed with great ease.

For Assisted Hatching no micropipettes are required at all, by controllingthe position of the laser, accurate AH ablations can be made to any area of zona in the field of view.

Non-Optimised Laser:

Here, the optical flare will deliver energy off the vertical axis, potentially damaging live cells.

Optimised Laser:

Here, the laser is being delivered correctly as shown by the symmetrical shape of the beam.

Cronus 3TM

Ablation lasers are invisible, so how do you know that the laser is being delivered accurately? Quite simply, with all other laser systems you don’t. The Saturn laser is the only system to allow the user to visualise the ablation laser. Using fibre-optic technology, the shape and path of the pilot laser exactly replicates the ablation laser. embryo analysis software included

The SaturnActive laser system comes complete with the Cronus 3 software providing a digital laser target, exclusion zone, digital video recording and embryo scoring. It also offers pre-firing hole size indication, image capture, and a range of analysis tools. This includes measurement of polar body angles, pronuclei, zona, cell diameters and areas. There are also many other embryo scoring and statistical analysis features included.

TM TM

Hole size selector

The Cronus 3 software allows the required hole size to be selected in microns. It also stores multiple pre-set hole sizes for ease and speed of use and automatically adjusts the laser pulse time required to create the desired hole.

TM

Exclusion zone™

Cronus 3 software also provides an Exclusion Zone (EZ) which, based on published medical research, indicates how close to critical cells the laser can be fired. The EZ increases and decreases according to the pulse time selected, and can be user defined.

TM

Lowest pulse times

The maximised efficiency of the Saturn Active laser, coupled with high quality optics, ensures that it uses the lowest pulse times of any laser system to produce the same sized holes.

TM

Rock solid reliability

RI has developed the Saturn Active laser with a unique, stand-alone microcontroller, making the laser incredibly reliable. Uniquely, in the event of a PC crash, the Saturn laser is still operable.

What our customers say

“We have now been working with the Saturn Laser System for some time and have found it a very effective method of ablating or “drilling” holes in the zona pellucida of preimplantation embryos. In short, I have found that the Saturn Laser system is accurate, safe and easy to use, providing me with an effective research tool for embryo biopsy.”Professor Alan Handyside, Bridge Clinic, UK

“The RI Saturn Laser ensures accurate and therefore safe ablation, essential when patients’ oocytes / embryos are at stake. It is also compact and doesn’t rely on a PC to run it (with the associated problems).” Martyn Blayney, Bourn Hall Clinic, UK

“Using the Saturn laser has made doing biopsies a pleasure. Setting up the laser and activating it is simple. The technique is quick, precise and easy to master.”Dr Malpani, Mumbai, India

“The Saturn Active laser has been an asset for our laboratory for assisted hatching procedures. The laser has reduced the amount of time required to perform assisted hatching compared to hatchingwith acid tyrodes. It also provides consistency in hole size in the zona for assisted hatching.” Janette Nowak, Houston IVF, USA
