Homilía De Hoy

La historia que se relata acerca de Nínive pone todo el énfasis en

la disponibilidad sin límites de Dios para perdonar. Nínive había

sido uno de los peores enemigos de Israel. Aunque el libro de

Jonás se había escrito tres siglos más tarde, Nínive era todavía

considerada como uno de los opresores más despiadados y crueles

de Israel.

En realidad, ellos nunca cambiaron su comportamiento. Pero Jonás

imagina qué sucedería si lo hicieran. No importa cuán horrible

hubiese sido su comportamiento, si se arrepentían, Dios los

perdonaría. El perdón de Dios no conoce límites. No sólo se le

concedía a Israel cada vez que se arrepentían, sino que también se

le ofrecía a su enemigo más terrible. Se le ofrece a cualquiera que

se vuelva hacia Dios.

Dios cambia de dirección en su promesa de aniquilar a Nínive.

Esto decepciona a Jonás, puesto que Nínive es un enemigo

declarado. Pero Dios prefiere perdonar que castigar. Es difícil

resistir el castigar a aquellos que nos han hecho daño. Jonás no

puede aceptar eso. Pero eso es precisamente lo que Dios está

dispuesto a hacer.

La semana pasada escuchamos el relato del llamado de Andrés y

Simón. Hoy escuchamos la version notablemente diferente de

Marcos. En esta versión Andrés y Simón están pescando. Esto le

da la oportunidad a Marcos de que Jesús, al llamarlos, se refiera a

la profesión de ellos: “Síganme y haré de ustedes pescadores de

hombres” (Marcos 1:17). El discipulado demanda ambas cosas:

seguir a Jesús y compartir la buena nueva con

los demás.

The Legion of Mary is the largest lay organization of

men and women in the Catholic Church. Founded in

Corpus Christi Youth Rally for Life

On a cold and windy day, over 20 Corpus Christi Youth Group

members and their adult chaperons joined Bishop Guglielmone,

Father Ray and the Knights of Columbus for the South Carolina

March and Rally for Life Day held at the State House in downtown

Columbia. The participants heard a powerful message from Ryan

Bomberger, co-founder of the Radiance Foundation, enjoyed great

music and finished the day with indoor Mass celebrated by Bishop

Guglielmone!
