Festival & Parade HistoryThe Christmas in Ida Festival began in 1982 with a three-unit parade, craft show, and children’s lunch with Santa. Throughout the years, the festival and parade expanded into a weekend event that eventually consisted of two parades: a daytime parade and a separate night parade of lights. After fifteen years, the festival organization opted to put all efforts into the Parade of Lights. The parade of lights was fashioned after a parade in the State of Washington and features the agricultural community and highlighted with parade entries with thousands of Christmas lights.

CHRISTMAS IN IDA FAMILY CONCERT SERIES

Celebrating 31 years of family entertainment, the Christmas in Ida Family Concert Series features top national recording artists and includes three concerts beginning Friday night with the Commemorative Concert featuring the Saline Fiddlers and continues Saturday with the Pop-Music Concert featuring Taylor Taylor followed by a headliner Country Music Concert featuring Keith Anderson.COUNTRY MUSIC CONCERTPresented by Meijer

The Country Music Concert headlines with Keith Anderson performing a high energy concert featuring songs from his hit albums including RIAA Gold Album “Three Chord Country and American Rock & Roll” and the album “C’mon”. He will sing his country top 5 single “I Still Miss You” and other top songs including “Sunday Morning in America”, “Picking Wildflowers”, and “Somebody Needs a Hug”. Songwriter Keith Anderson was nominated for a Grammy for “Beer Run” recorded by Garth Brooks and George Jones. Keith Anderson co-wrote the number one single in 2007 “Lost in This Moment” for Big and Rich. Named No. 1 Artist in 2005, he is currently touring the country performing his Middle America country music entertaining standing room only crowds.

POP MUSIC CONCERTPresented by Monroe Dodge Chrysler Jeep Superstore

The popular Pop-Music Concert features Michigan native and up-and-coming star Taylor Taylor. She presents a

blend of Jazz and Pop that offers an electric sound with the accompaniment of acoustic guitar. At the young age of 16, Taylors’s music offers maturity and insight beyond her years into life and love. She has played at several events including the Bluebird Cafe’ in Tennessee where she opened for Radio Disney’s Shane Harper.

Anita’s Dance Company of Wisconsin will warm up concert visitors with a high energy performance of Holiday dance.

FRIDAY NIGHT COMMEMORATIVE CONCERT

The Christmas in Ida Festival opens its doors to the world on Friday evening with a Commemorative Concert featuring the Saline Fiddlers performing a high energy concert of music, song, and dance. Performing traditional bluegrass, western swing, Celtic and Christmas music, the Saline Fiddlers present a positive influence by today’s wholesome American youth. The ensemble will perform an upbeat inspirational concert that will bring Holiday smiles to the young and young at heart. The concert is in cooperation with the Cornerstone Baptist Church, West Ida Immanuel Lutheran Church, East Ida Immanuel Lutheran Church, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Ida United Methodist Church, St. Joseph Catholic Church and is brought to you in part by the Michigan Council for the Arts, Culture Affairs and the Michigan Humanities Council.

HIGH SPEED LAWN MOWER RACING

Presented by Friendly Ford-Lincoln

The Michigan Lawn Mower Racing Association will perform demonstrations and a non-sanctioned race of high speed lawn mowers that attain speeds of 60 mph. The association has been featured on Speed TV, Race Freaks, MTV and the Outdoor Channel. The race will take place on Lewis Avenue between Ida Street and VanAiken Street.

BENEFIT AUCTION

The Ida High School Class of 2015 will hold a new merchandise benefit auction in the heated Partners tent at the Ida Township Hall parking lot. With merchandise for the entire family, the auction is a must for the Christmas shopper. Anita’s Dance Company of Wisconsin will kickoff the auction with a high energy Holiday dance performance.

SANTA’S ZOO AND CAMEL RIDE

Presented by Global Digital Printing

Featuring exotic animals from all corners of the world. Located in a tent at Ida Farmers–Co-Op on Lewis Avenue, the zoo displays reindeer, camels, monkeys, llamas, emus, kangaroos, and other animals that inspire the animal kingdom. Santa’s Zoo is hosted by Natures Creek Zoo.

FLURRY OF FANTASTIC FAMILY FESTIVITIES SHOW

Presented by Mercy-Memorial Hospital Systems

The Monroe County Great Start Parent Coalition will host the Flurry of Fantastic Family Festivities Show with interactive entertainment for parents and children. Get ready for some holiday entertainment and fun! The show will feature music, movement, games, and LOTS of prizes.

The fireworks display is considered a master show and can be seen throughout the village with live coordinated music.

CHRISTMAS IN IDA PARADE OF LIGHTS

The Parade of Lights tours the downtown district with illuminated floats, fire trucks, farm implements, cartoon characters, bands and marching units. Attracting over 130 parade units, the parade entertained an estimated 48,000 visitors in 2012. The parade attracts entries from Michigan, Ohio and Indiana and has included Kay Lani Rafko-Wilson, Miss America 1988; Jillian Harris star of the 2009 Bachelorette; World Champion Boxer, Bronco McKart; Ernie, the Keebler Elf; Detroit Tigers, Paws; the Grinch; Louie the Lightning Bug; Big Bird, Ronald McDonald,; National Champion Owl Creek Clydesdales. FOX Toledo Channel 36 will air the parade on December 14 at 5:00 p.m. Local cable will air the show throughout December. Brought to you by KeyBank.
