KEYNOTE ADDRESS (ENGLISH)

A1—Evangelists & Catechists Formed as

Missionary Disciples—Joe Paprocki, DMin.

If your car runs out of gas and you pull off to the side of the road,

the last thing you want is for someone to come along and tell you what you did wrong! What you really want and need is someone

with a gas can who can drive you to the nearest station – some-one who is going to help you get going again; to find a way for-ward. To be a missionary disciple is to be someone who is sent

forth by Jesus to search for those who are “stuck” on life’s jour-ney because they have placed their faith in sources of energy that are unreliable. Missionary disciples offer people a way forward –

namely, a life that is powered by the renewable source of energy offered to us through the Holy Spirit. In this keynote, Joe Pap-

rocki, DMin., will identify how today, people of all ages are “running dry” and how we, as evangelists and catechists, are sent on a rescue mission, equipped with practical tools for inviting

them to find a way forward in Jesus Christ. BC3 or IAC

A2—Los Sacramentos Como Herramientas

para Vivir en Misión—Orador Destacado:

Rev. Carlos Cifuentes—El padre Carlos explica

cómo cada sacramento y los dones que nos otor-ga son herramientas que nos equipan para ser discípulos que llevan la misión de Cristo y de la

Iglesia a en nuestros hogares, nuestras parroquias

y nuestra sociedad. IAT5

SESSION/SESIÓN 1, 9:00 am-—10:00 am, cont.

A8—Hidden Disciples: Imagined Women of

the Gospels——Featured Speaker: Kathy Coffey—

Women were there at every juncture of Jesus’ life: from his conception to his resurrection. Over time, they may have been edited out of the gospels, or

their roles diminished, so let’s resurrect their stories.

We can re-imagine their lives, using an ancient Mid-

rash technique. Then we’ll make the link to our lives: what do they teach us today? Come for reflection, surprise and a new approach

to reading the gospels. IAT1

A9—Spirituality of Imperfection—Featured

Speaker: Kevin Dowd—In a culture that has

made an idol of perfection (physical, athletic, aca-demic, etc.) and encourages masking our imperfec-

tions, the Church's teaching about grace is more nec-essary than ever. We need a spirituality that helps

our young people to have lofty ideals while also recognizing hu-man weakness and sinfulness. A spirituality of imperfection, deep-ly rooted in Catholic faith and Scripture, can help us to accept our-

selves as we are while also opening us to the growth that grace

makes possible. BC3 or IAC

A10—Social Media for Mission—Featured

Speaker: Dr. Tom Ryan—This presentation

takes as its starting point the belief that communica-tion is central to our faith. God communicated God’s very self in Jesus, continues to communicate

through the work of the Holy Spirit, and invites the faithful to share in the divine task of communicating

the Good News in the Church and world today. The presentation

then outlines a Catholic spirituality of communication and its im-

plications for missionary disciples today. IALM

A11—Sexuality/Transgender—Featured Speaker:

Rev. Michael Silloway— St. John Paul II left the

Church a masterpiece of theological work in his

Theology of the Body. Catechists, clergy and lay alike need to see the Church's teaching on sexuality through the lens of this scriptural, scientific, pasto-

ral, and philosophical framework to truthfully and

lovingly address the real needs and concerns of the people entrust-

ed to our ministerial care. IAT2

A12—Roll the Dice to Teach the Liturgical Year (Steve

Botsford) It's actually not a gamble to teach the Church Year

through game play. Come learn how to review each Church sea-son with your students and reinforce learning through play. Leave

with new ideas on teaching the Church year and a Liturgical Sea-

son Review guide. BM2 or IALM

A13—See Accurately, Respond Accordingly: Ethics and the

Gifts of the Holy Spirit (Brendan Dudley) Our vision affects our

behavior. How can we teach others to develop the interior sight

needed for choosing a life in Christ? How do the gifts of the Holy Spirit enable us to see others with the eyes of Jesus and treat peo-

ple with a compassion that points to conversion? IAT2 A14—Morality (Bill Garrity) (two hours) From Adam and Eve to

now, we always have choices. We will explore key components of morality, sin, conscience, and choice. Several additional compo-

nents regarding morality will be presented with plenty of time for

group participation. BT2

A15—Holy Spirit: Gifts and Fruits (Deacon Keith Kolodziej) So

often we focus on the seven tradition gifts of the Spirit as de-scribed in Isaiah. But St. Paul teaches us that there are virtually an

infinite number of gifts and fruits all given by the one Spirit, and

all given for a particular purpose. IAT4 or IAC

spread and defend the Catholic faith. BT4

young people in their Catholic faith. BM2 or IALM

(Jeanne Lyons) As more of our families are affected by the Au-

A31—Vatican II & Other Faiths (Joe Von Kanel) Remember this

old joke? A man (or woman), after touring heaven, asks about the

A34—Scripture & Catechesis—Featured Speaker:

Kevin Dowd— Atheists know Scripture well, including its

violence and inconsistencies, and use that knowledge to attack

our young people's faith. Fundamentalists also know Scripture, and their literal reading of the Bible is exactly what the atheists pounce upon. Our young people have nothing to fear from the
