hear from the inspiring, and develop your UpRising networks for life!
The Reunion has three aims: to re-connect UpRisers past and present from across the UK
with each other, re-engage alumni with new social action and leadership insights and re-
unite alumni as a movement of changemakers who exemplify the values and commitment
to social change most needed in society.

Rohan Silva
Rohan Silva is the co-founder of Second Home,
the world's most iconic working environment for
creative companies.
Rohan was previously Senior Policy Adviser to the
British Prime Minister, where he developed some
of the UK's key enterprise policies, such as the
Seed EIS tax break, Entrepreneur Relief and
Entrepreneur Visas. In addition, Rohan created the Government's 'Tech City' initiative to
support the growth of the technology cluster in East London.
Rohan was named a World Economic Forum 'Young Global Leader' in 2014, and is also
Research Affiliate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Jonathan Ellis
Jonathan Ellis is currently Head of Policy, Research and Advocacy at
the British Red Cross. He is also a visiting lecturer at City University
in London on the MA in political communication. In addition he
leads advocacy campaigns training for BOND, INTRAC, NVCO and the
Sheila McKechnie Foundation.
Previously he was director of advocacy at the British Refugee Council, chief executive at
the Empty Homes Agency and has led UK and international campaigns for Oxfam GB.
He has extensive experience of delivering advocacy campaigns training and support
across the world including: Bangladesh, Haiti, Nigeria, Somaliland, South Africa,
Tajikistan, Tanzania, Thailand and across Europe.
Among his voluntary roles, Jonathan is Chairman of the Bishop Simeon Trust
(supporting orphans and vulnerable children in South Africa) and a trustee of City of
Sanctuary (building a national movement in defence of asylum seekers and refugees);
DENS (tackling homelessness in West Hertfordshire); and the Migrant and Refugee
Communities Forum (MRCF) in West London.
Born in South Africa, he was educated at Durham (BA Hons History), Leicester (PGCE),
and Loughborough (MBA) universities.

Walk the Talk - Nick Morgan, Group CEO:

Nick is the co-founder and Group CEO of
Big Cat Group. He has been involved in
the industry for over 16 years, and has
particular experience in producing large
scale events and health and safety
management for events. Beginning with creating some of the Midlands biggest nationally
recognised club nights in the nineties, Nick and co-founder Anthony Tattum then created
Big Cat - which now boasts four departments delivering Events, Marketing, Creative Design
and Public Relations for its UK client base, providing them and their customers with

Yesim Kunter
Play Like and Expert - Yesim Kunter, Play Expert & Futurist
Yesim Kunterh describes herself as a "Play Expert, Futurist,
Designer.... A Curious Brain and an Explorer...". After growing
up in Turkey, she has travelled the world in her pursuit of
exploring how human behaviour and product design interlink,
how imagination and play can lead to brilliant creations.
Having worked with FIT, Toys R Us and Lego, Yesim moved to
London to work as a Futurist, exploring the unknown, finding new meanings and creating
new experiences and translating that knowledge into concrete ideas. She now works at her
consultancy Play to Innovate, running workshops and speaking at conferences to
demonstrate how play can be a powerful learning tool.

Emily Dyson
State of the Nation: Social Action - Emily Dyson, Special Projects
and Business Engagement Adviser Step Up to Serve
Emily is an Advisor to the Step Up To Serve. #iwill is a national
campaign that aims to make social action part of life for as many
10 to 20 year-olds as possible by the year 2020. Through
collaboration and partnership it is spreading the word about the
benefits of youth social action, working to embed it in the journey
of young people and creating fresh opportunities for the
participation. Emily has also worked as a Briefing Coordinator to
the Deputy Prime Minister and as a Project Manager for the
Ministry of Defence bringing him recognition not just among his
peers but through winning various awards - recently including 42 under 42 list,
International Entrepreneur of the Year and part of the Event 100 Club.

Anam Khan
Start Up Session - Anam Khan, Marketing Manager
London Small Business Centre
With just over three years experience in integrated
marketing, Anam has honed in skills and insights across
the lifestyle, luxury goods and culture sector. She started
in fashion and then moved into the Arts working
on strategies to develop and promote the brands and
now leads the marketing for London Small Business
Centre, the leading enterprise agency in the capital that
provide funding, training and face-to-face mentoring for
entrepreneurs starting and growing their businesses.
Having lead key targeted campaigns and projects, she's collaborative in approach with an
unquenchable appetite for growth (and joie de vivre!), and finds nothing more exhilarating

Genevieve Dawson
Hogwarts for Campaigners - Genevieve Dawson, Programme
Manager Campaign Bootcamp
Genevieve is the programme manager at Campaign Bootcamp. Prior to
joining the Bootcamp team she designed the Great Men project which
aims to empower boys and men to challenge negative gender
stereotypes. She campaigns with feminist, anti-austerity and climate
groups in London. When she's not talking to Bootcampers about their troublemaking plans
she's to be found singer-songwritering around Brixton.

Katherine Sladden
Katherine Sladden, Campaigner, Change.org
Katherine is a campaigner at Change.org, the world's
largest petition platform. Change.org empowers people
everywhere to start and win campaigns on issues they
care about. Prior to joining Change.org Katherine was
Media Manager for anti-poverty campaign group ONE and worked for the National AIDS
Trust.

Rushanara Ali
Rushanara Ali MP – UpRising Chair of Trustees
Rushanara Ali is the Labour Member of Parliament for
Bethnal Green and Bow and the UpRising Chair of
Trustees. She grew up in her constituency attending
Mulberry school and Tower Hamlets College. She was
the first in her family to go to University and studied
Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford
University. Until her resignation from Labour’s front bench in September 2014 over her
decision to abstain on the vote on airstrikes in Iraq, Rushanara served as Shadow Minister
for Education and Young People, and between October 2010 and October 2013, as Shadow
Minister for International Development. From November 2014 until the 2015 General
Election, Rushanara served as a member of the Treasury Select Committee.
Prior to her election in May 2010, she was Associate Director of the Young Foundation,
where she co-founded UpRising a national leadership development and employability

charity which has helped thousands of young people develop their campaigning and major
social problems. Rushanara also worked at the Communities Directorate of the Home
Office leading a programme of work to support local areas following the 2001 riots in
Bradford, Burnley and Oldham; at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office where she helped
establish what became the Forced Marriage Unit; as a Research Fellow at the Institute for
Public Policy Research (1999-2002) working on anti-discrimination issues, and as
Parliamentary Assistant for Oona King, former MP for Bethnal Green & Bow (1997-1999).
She has also worked as the Research Assistant to Lord Young of Dartington (author of the
1945 Labour Party manifesto), helping him to set up Language Line, a national telephone
interpreting company and Futureversity, a youth charity which has helped over a 100,000
young people – raising aspirations, cutting youth crime and getting them into work. She
has previously served as a Commissioner on the London Child Poverty Commission; a
board member of Tower Hamlets College; a Trustee of the Paul Hamlyn Foundation; a
member of the Tate Britain Council and a member of the Home Office Working Group on
Preventing Extremism established after the 7/7 London bombings.

Alice Memminger
Alice Memminger – CEO UpRising
Alice Memminger is the Chief Executive of UpRising, a UK wide youth leadership development organisation. Alice has been working in the third sector as a consultant and senior manager for the past nine years with a wide variety of charities across the country. She joined UpRising from Sue Ryder, where she worked as Head of Strategic Planning and Programme Delivery. Other recent roles include Head of Planning and Performance for Parkinson's UK, Managing Director of Hammersmith and Fulham Circle and
Head of Trading and Social Enterprise for Age UK Barking and Dagenham. Alice has developed extensive experience and expertise whilst working with Boards and Senior Leadership Teams, gaining a strong reputation for transformative strategic plans and driving through ambitious change programmes. Known for achieving successful outcomes through effectively facilitating authentic strategic dialogue and challenging discussions, she has a proven track record of approaching her work with tenacity while inspiring and energising those involved in the process. She is a Trustee for Age UK Islington and Reach Volunteering as well as a Director for Creative Lifestyles CIC in East London.
