SATs Information Evening
Wednesday 28th November 2019
7pm
SATs – Y6 are tested as follows:
• Maths - arithmetic paper + 2 reasoning papers
• Reading
• Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling
• Writing
English SATs
• English:
• Grammar test: 40-50 short answer questions
• Spelling test: 20 words to put in sentences
• Reading test: 3 separate texts plus comprehension questions. Range of questions including tick, join to right answer, number order, one word, short sentence and longer sentences.
• Writing and Speaking and Listening are formally reported but teacher assessed
Maths SATs
• Maths:
• Three papers:
• Paper 1 - written arithmetic (30 mins, 36 questions) - give correct answer to calculations
• Papers 2 and 3 - reasoning (40 mins each) -multiple choice, true or false, answers to problems/ data/ graphs and explanations

Tuesday 12th May 2020 (1h)English Reading test - 50 marks
Wednesday 13th May 2020 (30 mins then 40 mins)

Thursday 14th May (40 mins) Maths Paper 3: reasoning
Results
• Externally marked
• Results in July:• You will get your child's mark and also their scaled
score. You will be told if they have reached the expected level for Y6 or not.
• Reports - usually the Monday after the rest of the school
• Individual pupils' results not published but overall school results are
Writing Assessment
• Teachers will assess based on how well they:• Write interesting, imaginative and thoughtful texts• Produce texts which are appropriate to task, reader and purpose• Organise and present whole texts effectively, sequencing and
structuring information, ideas and events• Construct paragraphs and use cohesion between paragraphs• Vary sentences for clarity, purpose and effect• Write with technical accuracy of syntax and punctuation in phrases• Select appropriate and effective vocabulary• Use correct spelling

• Ring school to make arrangements
