HOW ARE WE PREPARING YEAR 10 STUDENTS?

• Year 10 core and extension mathematics programs have been re-written to ensure students have covered all of the required pre-requisite content for new subjects.

• Creating new preparatory classes in semester 2 (as per letter in term 1) to tailor preparation and readiness for new senior subjects.

• Using new senior grade boundaries in year 10 (starting term 1) to assist students to engage with the new grade requirements.

• Implementing whole of semester testing in terms 2 and 4, in preparation for external exams that will assess an entire year’s content.

Page 32: SATE - Senior Assessment and Tertiary Entrance › Supportandresources... · Tertiary Entrance The ATAR. How we will support our students ... Unit 2. Unit 3: Unit 4. Written response

CONT…..• Introducing blind component (20%) of exams to assist prepare

staff and students for external exams.

• Committing to, as a minimum, fortnightly reviewing of content to assist with long-term content retention.

• Exposing students to a complex question every week, to assist with preparation for the increased rigour of new senior subjects and foster confidence in problem-solving and the unfamiliar.

• Implementing longer length non-calculator exams in terms 2, 3 and 4 in year 10 extension and methods courses to prepare students for pathways into methods and specialist maths in year 11 and 12.

Page 33: SATE - Senior Assessment and Tertiary Entrance › Supportandresources... · Tertiary Entrance The ATAR. How we will support our students ... Unit 2. Unit 3: Unit 4. Written response

WHERE ARE WE NOW?• Year 10 students have had recent interaction with the new

senior grade boundaries (term 1 exams). Students are aware of the increased demands/rigour of the new senior mathematics subjects.

• Critical that students continue to revise term 1 content in preparation for end of term 2 exam that will cover all of terms 1 and 2 content.

• Critical that students use digital resources, such as MOODLE and mymathsonline to tailor their study.

• Critical that students give themselves the best chance of success on end of term 2 exams as results will inform class placement for semester 2.

• Letter to be posted home to parents this week.
