SAS 9.4 – Step-by-Step Installation Tutorial

Since we will install SAS on a standalone machine and not in a real client-server architecture we need to use the

Deployment Type “Install SAS Foundation and Related Software”.

In the “Select Products to Install” window you can deselect:

1. “SAS Deployment Tester – Client”, a batch client, which enables you to run deployment tests from a command

line or on a scheduled basis.

2. “SAS Studio – Single User”. SAS Studio is a developmental web application for SAS that you access through your

web browser. It is an alternative for SAS Enterprise Guide. If the machine on which you install SAS is only used by

yourself you can install “SAS Studio – Single User”, otherwise deselect this option as shown in the image below.

In the “Select Products to Install” window you need to select “SAS PC Files Server” if you have Microsoft Office

installed in the 32bit version. To check if you have office in 32bits use the instructions from this link: About Office:

Following the instructions explained you will have selections shown in te following images:

If you have a lot of space on the disk where you install SAS you can leave everything selected in the “Select SAS

Foundation Products” window. If you want to have some extra space you can deselect the components that are

unselected in the following two images.

NOTE: If you want to be able to use more of the SAS/ACCESS engines, such as for instance use MySQL or Oracle

please select those.

SAS has a few products for which you can choose the languages you would like to install in addition to

English.

If you only use English you can use the “Clear All” button. English will be installed by default.

If you select an additional language you will get an additional shortcut so that you select to start the GUI in the

language of your choice.

NOTE: Your hostname will be different.

If the ‘checking system’ finds unwritable files or if it finds that you do not have enough available disk space you need

to solve those problems before you can proceed with the actual installation.

A couple of components, such as for instance the SAS Deployment Manager”, will take some time to install. Most will

be fast.

If you want to uninstall SAS please use the SAS Deployment Manager.

It can be found here: %SASHome%\SASDeploymentManager\9.4\sasdm.exe

NOTE: %SASHome% normally is located here: C:\Program Files\SASHome

Shortcuts for taskbar or desktop:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\SAS

Configuration information:

%SASHome%\sassw.config (contains the environments xml)

%SASHome%\install.properties (contains the hostname, user, domain, etc)

Configuration file sasv9.cfg has to be changed in 3 locations:

%SASHome%\SASFoundation\9.4\nls\1d (english with DBCS)

%SASHome%\SASFoundation\9.4\nls\en (english)

%SASHome%\SASFoundation\9.4\nls\u8 (unicode)

1 line has to be changed if the hostname is likely to change:

-DCSHOST your-hostname

→ change to: -DCSHOST localhost
