For all your Performing Arts needs!

Who is SCAMP?

Sarah Carr Arts (Music & Performance) is a small, independent company, belonging to myself, Sarah Carr. Igenerally work alone but I also have a team of people who work through SCAMP who can offer other instruments or orchestras or bands, or simply to assist on bigger projects. All work is free-lance and all members of SCAMP are self-employed.

Sarah Carr BA (hons) Music, Theatre Studies I have worked for over 40 years in the entertainment industry, having trained in dance, music and drama with qualifications through Associated Board of Royal School of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, American Academy of Dance and Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. I have performed in this country and abroad in all aspects of performance including radio and television. I am a member of the British Actor’s Equity Union. With 12 years’ experience of teaching locally, I have taught children from as young as 4 to adults up to 80 in local communities and schools. Lessons have been in dance (including cheerleading), music (piano, singing and recorder) and drama and students have learned for fun, for performance, to take grades, prepare for auditions and to increase confidence. Extensive work in local Ramsey schools has included producing, directing and choreographing as many as 6 concerts in a school year with themes such as summer, Halloween, Christmas, Films and shows, and have had over 100 performers in some of these. I have also put on an outdoor festival back in 2019 with 4 hours of live music, stalls and exhibitions all arranged by herself. I have also produced, co-directed, choreographed and been musical director for school productions with around a cast of 50, which include: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Bugsy Malone and Dick Turpin (the panto). I have written shows and sketches and produced smaller scale productions at primary schools and recently put on a performance of Elf Junior by myself with a cast of 45 secondary school children working alongside The Young Technicians Scheme with whom I am closely linked.

I currently work in schools as a peripatetic music teacher and co-ordinate a team of 8 music tutors into 9 schools with over 175 students between them. SCAMP is my latest project to broaden her work out into other schools with my team picking up any of the work I am unable to do myself. The team is available for more instrumental lesson options and music clubs.

I believe that music and performance should be accessible to all and educating students and adults is the way to allow people the opportunities to spread their wings and fly.

Events / Concerts / School Productions

For all your production needs!

I can help with various aspects of your event – whether it be a full concert, a performance such as at a graduation or open evening, a short production or a full-scale musical, I can offer any of the following:

• Advice on choice of material which could include choosing a theme for the event if necessary

• Writing a piece for a performance (maximum length one hour)• Help with organising promotion and marketing for your event• Directing or co-directing the performance• Musical Direction – this can be by being sole accompanist or to lead a

band/orchestra. This job also means running musical rehearsals• Choreography – doing my own choreography and teaching it to the

relevant members• Producing – overseeing the whole event

My involvement could be minimal, working with another person(s) or I could take over the whole event and run it from start to finish without assistance. However, for a full-scale play/musical I would require help with props, backstage, front of house and wardrobe which could be from staff members or competent students (depending on age group). This could also include a virtual event.

Past experiences I have had include:• Termly assemblies at primary schools

showcasing music, drama and dance including short plays

• Showcasing cheerleading at open events and sports days

• Writing whole school plays and producing them in primary schools

• Running sessions at Family events• Leading short performances at events in the

community• Assisting in school full-scale musicals• Producing and running lots of performances at

open days, Christmas events & graduations• Producing and co-directing plus all

choreography and musical direction for 3 major musicals in school

• Putting on a full musical single handed• Organising, producing and editing online events

and concerts

Workshops and MasterclassesWorkshops or Masterclasses can be booked on certain days. These can be for either a morning, afternoon or all day. These are suitable for students of all ages – from primary to secondary, from Sixth Form to staff.

Workshops:• General performing arts – From an hour-long experience to a longer project that has an end goal – such as a performance to show to the school or parents or

a video made. This type of workshop is great to aid interaction amongst all the students, develop creativity and boost confidence.• Singing – This could include some performance elements, learning simple harmonies and teaching good breathing methods as well as having a great sing! This

could be short sessions or a project lasting a day with an end performance.• Musical Theatre – This is a performance workshop learning a song (or songs) complete with choreography and performance. For a full day workshop with one

group then a final performance would be ideal at the end of the day. Shorter workshops would be just learning one number.• Drama – This could be learning elements from a play, acting out a poem or creating an improvisation. Drama games and warmups would be part of this

session. As with the Musical Theatre this could easily work with a short session or an all- day event.• Cheerleading – An ideal workshop for several classes one after the other. Get marching and learn a routine. This works either inside or outside.• Dance – A general Dance Active workshop allowing for developing their own choreography, learning routines and general movement. Specialist genre is

possible.• Public Speaking – This is suitable, particularly, for older students and adults. Learning about breathing and presentation, pace and focus, through exercises

and practice.• Themed Workshops – These require at least 1 months’ notice to prepare. If you are working on a project at school and want to have a workshop based on the

topic, we can do a dance or drama (or both) session to enhance learning.• Staff Team Building – A workshop which includes many elements of performing arts that requires teamwork and interaction. This could include relaxation

techniques, good breathing and tasks to build confidence and social skills.Masterclasses:• Music – how to perform effectively. Demonstration is a part of this, but students would be encouraged to perform either in front of their class or in groups.

Learning about expression and confidence as well as tricks to overcome stage fright.• Drama – As with music.

Masterclasses are particularly useful for exam students preparing coursework or for those who are working towards a performance such as at an event, in a concert or for an audition.

Individual work including mentoring

Sometimes just an extra pair of hands / ears is needed on a

project or with a group of students or an individual. I have

worked extensively with students for many years – assisting

and helping give a bit of extra support that is simply not

available generally. This has ranged from the very able to those

who really struggle with both the theory and practical side of

Performing Arts and sometimes for those who are capable but

due to anxiety and lack of confidence cannot quite get their

work where it needs to be. Or sometimes they just need the

discipline of learning a new skill.

To book me for this kind of work then it would need to be for a

minimum of 2 hours at a time but can be booked ad hoc

according to my availability.

Individual Music lessonsI can offer lessons in piano and singing in some schools depending on availability.

Other SCAMP team members may offer lessons in these and other instruments.

These can be taken for fun and enjoyment, for those who need help with music coursework, to take grades (using a variety of exam boards), to prepare for concerts and auditions.

Small group lessonsA suitable size room is required for this and in the case of keyboard lessons instruments will berequired to be available as students and tutors will not be able to bring their own. Various instrument classes are available including percussion, recorders and general musicianship

Music Theory online classesSuitable for anyone of any age and from anywhere as these are online. Short courses offered according to Grade. Learn online with a tutor and with others. This is an interactive session and support in taking a theory grade is given for those who need it.

Extra curricular music classes These are available to students who are at a suitable standard to be able to perform competently with others. This could be orchestra, singing, general music or band.

Individual or small group Drama lessonsAvailable short term for students who need extra help with coursework or to prepare for a performance, competition or audition. Specific help with a particular piece or with general performance skills.

All of the above are payable by the parent/carer and will be arranged directly with SCAMP with promotion from the school. Costs depend on lesson length and number of students involved and can be given on request. The exception being small group lessons which may also be booked and paid for by the school for a regular slot if required.

For those schools that do not already have a music provision hub then SCAMP may be able to organise your Peripatetic provision – taking away your responsibility for admin and payments.

Mrs Carr helped me dramatically over the years I trained with her. She gave me the knowledge and the technique that helped me get into a top performing arts college. She delves into every part of singing and her lessons are worth both the time and money Matty – 17-year-old former singing student and club member

Sarah is so passionate in what she does, and she has a very honest way of working, which is both warm and kind, yet completely professional. My daughter and I hold complete trust in [her]. Sarah knows when where and how much to push capabilities, but equally knows where to stop, and helps [my daughter] to work at her own pace and encourages her to push herself. You can always see the adoration and admiration that Sarah’s students have for her - during productions and performances this shines out of them and Sarah is sure to always put on a great show through her students - the hard work that goes into this is clear for anyone to see. From lessons, to exams, a shoulder to lean on and an ear to listen, from the highest of highs following productions to the lowest of difficult times or nerves getting the better of them, Sarah has been there to enjoy or endure it all. Thank you just isn’t enough, but; from the bottom of our hearts, Thank You!! Vicky – parent of year 11 singing student and club member

[My daughter] has really enjoyed being part of your Performing Arts group that you ran. It gave her the confidence to be up on stage both acting andas a musician. This has been a really important part of her attaining the grades she required for her music exams. Without your encouragement and theopportunity to do this she would have found it a lot harder. It has also enabled her to explore the world of stage which she has found a passion for andshe looks forward very much to working with you in the future. Nicole – parent of year 10 club member

[Sarah] works tirelessly to provide opportunities for all to take part in many aspects of the performing arts. Brings out the best in people by putting them at ease, enthusing others and encouraging those to build confidence by developing their performance skills. Whether it's being part of a team and enjoying music together or a full-on production, Sarah gives her all so everyone, performers and audiences, can enjoy and experience a taste of life on the stage.Claire - maths teacher and staff choir member

Sarah is simply amazing! The support she has given both my daughters in their singing and acting has been tremendous. Her energy and positivity is just boundless. Sarah is so approachable and caring to all students and parents alike. She brings the best out in people and helps them to recognise their potential. The hours she has dedicated co-ordinating shows and plays is amazing. Evening and weekend rehearsals were never too much trouble. She brings the best out in her pupils and helps them believe in themselves and build their confidence. What an amazing lady !Sharon -Parent of Year 11 singing student and club member and Year 7 club member

It's like being part of a close family all pushing each other, friendly competition, and support everywhere you turn. Without the performing arts and especially with Mrs Carr I wouldn’t know where I would be now. Hollie year 10 Club member and musician

As a previous ASCA Music tutor, I am very confident to say that Sarah has been an amazing role model for teachers and students - her complete dedication to music and performing arts has had a very noticeable effect on a large number of students as I witnessed their enthusiasm continuously grow. I was very pleased to be part of her team to help support and maintain her high standards. She made time for everyone and worked overtime to ensure students would have full opportunities to learn and flourish. Her organisation skills kept ASCA Music running like a well-oiled machine and she is a pillar of strength Gemma – former colleague

Sarah is an inspiration. Hardworking, enthusiastic and dedicated. Sarah always gives her all to every project she gets involved with. Particular moments I remember are her involvement with a song for Amelia in 2018. This was a mammoth undertaking featuring a collaboration of 4 schools and a community choir and Sarah supported this concert with her expertise and guidance. Her passion for music and performing shone through and made the concert a huge success. When you enlist Sarah you get her whole family! Sarah will always go above and beyond often giving up her evenings and weekends as the show must go on! Secondly during the 2020 lockdown Sarah set up a community choir, this was just what the doctor ordered a singalong every week and then some fabulous videos to showcase our singing. Fabulous!Lisa – local community and Distant Voice member

You’re a magnificent teacher and have been a consistent rock and guide to {my daughter} and I’m sure many more students also.I can not thank you enough for everything you have done and continue to do.Mrs S– parent of Year 11 singer and club member
