SARAH B. LIVELY MIDDLE SCHOOL LAW & HUMANITIES MAGNET FOR GLOBAL STUDIES Who Are We? The Lively Magnet Program is a free advanced academic program within the Austin Independent School District. Our program, educating Magnet students from all around the Austin area, is part of a 135 year old tradition. Authorized by Austin ISD's school board in 2001, the Lively Law and Humanities Magnet for Global Studies is one of Austin's most unique and inclusive programs with a focus on civics, humanities, and social justice. The three distinctive strands form the basis of the electives that enrich the magnet experience in law, humanities, and global studies. Concepts in English Language Arts and Social Studies are intertwined to support students in making deep connections. Magnet electives are open to all! We offer challenging STEM & CATE classes including Environmental Science, Forensic Science, Medical Detectives, Robotics, and Video Game Design, in addition to others. We also offer Health, Algebra I and Geometry for high school credit as well as the world languages: Japanese, French, Spanish and AP Spanish.

Our program culminates in a Civic Engagement Capstone project for 8th graders that is a year-long project-based experience. We also identify our sixth grade students for the Duke Explore Program and our seventh grade students for the Duke Talent Search Program.

Lively’s Magnet Program has students as diverse as our program offerings and supports student’s academic, social, and emotional growth in a historic and beautiful setting.

Lively offers a variety of free after school clubs and tutoring opportunities where students have the opportunity to make

friends from all walks of life.

Free late buses depart Lively at 5:30 p.m. from Monday through Friday so students are able to participate in after school activities.
