Symptom 

When creating a maintenance order (IW31), error message IW028 is displayed:'Business area required --> please business area eingeben'.However, the customer does not use any business areas at all.

Incorrect Customizing setting}.

Solution 

If the customer actually does not want to work with business areas in the company code in question,cancel the required business area as follows in Customzing:Customizing menu:Accounting --> Financial accounting --> Accounting --> Environment --> Company code --> Enter globalparameters --> Details:Deactivate the option 'Business area balance sheets' (field name: V_001_B-XGSBE) within the'Processing parameters'.Save the settings.
