Business Case
Allocation of indirect costs / Profitability analysis
Many companies struggle with the allocation of indirect costs / cost supporting
department to cost centers (or to profit centers). The correct and meaningful
allocation of such costs is however essential for a profitability analysis down
to the product level.
This is applicable for budget and actual scenarios.
The allocation of the IT costs is a good example of such a business case.
The IT department provides IT Services (i.e. laptops, applications, man-days,
etc.) to internal and external customers
The costs of the IT department will be planned on a cost center level and some of
it’s cost could be directly planned on IT services (i.e. investments on material or
software)
The complete costs of Services and the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) are
still to be fully calculated.
