Santa Croce has always been a prominent symbol of Florence

and a meeting point of the greatest artists, theologians, writers,

humanists and politicians, as well as for the powerful families

that determined in a good and bad way, the late Medieval and

Renaissance identity of Florence.

With its remarkable Gothic architecture, impressive fresco

cycles, altarpieces, precious stained glass windows and

numerous sculptures, the Basilica represents one of the most

important pages in the Florentine history of art starting in the

12th century.

Canova, and others. The presence of Giotto and his school in particular makes the church an extraordinary book of 14th

century Florentine art.

Santa Croce is defined as the Pantheon of Italian Glories as it preserves the tombs of the greats such as Machiavelli, Galilei,

Michelangelo, Rossini, Ghiberti, Alfieri, Foscolo.

This 3 hour tour, led by art historian Paola Vojnovic, Philanthropy Relations officer at Opera di Santa Croce, will go behind the scenes to explore this unparalleled encyclopedia of

the art, spirituality and history of Florence.

Included in the tour is also a copy of “American Reflections”, a special guidebook of Santa Croce through the eyes of the

American visitors such as Twain, Emerson, Hawthorne.
