FIELD REPORT 11.01.2015

Location: Illinois Beach State Park

Date: Sunday, 1 November, 2015

Time: Approximately 0700am to 0900am, CST

Weather: Beautifully sunny and clear, brilliantly blue skies, slightly warm

Present : Myself only

Sanjay’s Note: Certain portions of this Report may be more subjective in their aspect; the reader’s gracious

indulgence is requested. Not all of these phenomena are understood; they are included here, nonetheless, as an

integral and vital portion of my investigation.

Items Noted:

I returned to Illinois Beach State Park on Sunday, 1 November;1 the weather was beautifully sunny and clear,

although there was a slight wind from the south/southwest. While driving into the park, I stopped to photograph

some trees overhanging the canal; the effect was quite picturesque and I wanted to capture the light of the sun,

rising above the still waters.

I pulled into the carpark, and accessed the beach directly; the lake was quite calm, with soft, low waves

whispering upon the sands. I began to photograph various scenic elements, and continued along the breakwater

to the main beach.

As I came up over the knoll, I stopped; the beach had been altered quite remarkably.2 3 Much of it was now

gone; the water came up nearly to the bluffs, and only a narrow strip of sand remain, dropping steeply down

where before a long, gentle slope had been.4 Looking north, however, I observed that the headland had not

collapsed further, and the collapsed trees still remained.

I accessed the beach, where I observed several footprints, including various canid types as well as booted/shod

human feet, passing back and forth across the sand. I also observed some rather large, deeply impressed

human-like prints, progressing in long, straight lines upon the sand.5

“Say,” I said to myself, “Who would be out this late, in their bare feet?”

These photographs present views and close-ups of the large, deeply impressed tracks observed on the sand at

Illinois Beach State Park; notice the deteriorated condition of same. Nonetheless, the depth of the tracks

remains somewhat visible, as does the mid-tarsal break. Additionally, notice the enormous stride lengths, as

evidenced in the first image, and the enormous step lengths, visible in the second and fourth images.

It took me some moments to realise my statement;6 I was looking at a line of footprints, with an enormous stride

length, extended quite far along the sand! 7 8 The prints seemed curiously familiar not only in their profile, size,

and shape, but also in their impression and presentation of a mid-tarsal break;9 I paced them off with my

boots.10 The stride length measured seven and one-half boot lengths, or ninety-three and three-quarters of an

inch (93.75in or 238.125cm); slightly longer than those I had observed in August.11

6 Sometimes, it takes me a while. 7 Contemporary reports in Alpena present similar characteristics; however, the actual stride length of those reported is unknown. Jim

Hot diggity dog!

I was really quite thrilled, and took several photographs; many of the prints appeared deteriorated, and

presented only minimal detail. Nonetheless, I felt I had documented sufficient information to present them as

part of my Report, and to establish some resemblance to those prints I had observed in August.12

I continued along the beach, noting the damage throughout; the beach appeared to have been swept clean,13 with

only large pieces of driftwood remaining. The effect, of a bare, deserted artist’s studio, was a curious one; more

than once, I wondered the position of the driftwood and questioned their origins.14

I then accessed the bluff, and was rather quite surprised to observe the small, triangular driftwood assembly still

extant, standing in its sunny, sheltered spot overlooking the beach. I noticed that the small piece of ceramic tile,

embedded in concrete, was no longer in situ; I did not observe it anywhere nearby.15

I returned to the beach, where I observed several deeply impressed White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus)

tracks, some overlapped; they were quite large.16

As I was observing the deer tracks, I began to realise…I was not alone.17

The air felt different; something had changed. I looked around, carefully.

Was I being watched? 18

I stood still for a moment, and waited, breathlessly; nothing happened. I continued my progress along the

beach, passing by enormous piles of driftwood, and scattered remnants of trees and building materials. As I

approached the collapsed headland, I realised I could not pass beyond it; the water was too deep, and the now-

horizontal trees were too high. I did not dare attempt it alone. I observed some rather large, possible

assemblies on the north end of the beach, tantalisingly close, but inaccessible; I was really quite frustrated.19

While I was standing there, a sudden foul, unpleasant odour assailed my nostrils;20 I recall exclaiming from it.

“Oh, my god!” I said, aloud, “What is that awful smell?”

These photographs present views of the driftwood assembly, still intact (more or less) and still extant on the

bluff overlooking the water; in the second image, notice the missing ceramic tiles. It is not unreasonable to

suggest, in context, a relationship between the assembly and the nearby tree (species unknown).

The first photograph presents a view of a possible slanted-branch assembly, observed near the top of the

remnant headland and possibly pertinent to the shelter observed within same. The second photograph presents

a view of the tall marsh grasses behind the headland and the high, thick brush and foliage beyond, where I

began to feel that I was being watched, as I returned to the gravelled path.

Just as suddenly, it was gone.21

I returned along the beach, and accessed the bluff near the remnant headland, as I had done before. As I came

up, I observed some possible branch assemblies nearby, and stopped to examine them. They appeared artificial,

or at least deliberate, but I observed no visible interweaving.22 23

I could not access the beach beyond the headland; the brush was too thick, and the path was quite narrow along

the crest. I could not be certain of my footing; I was alone.

http://www.bigfootencounters.com/biology/smell.htm. 1997. Web. Accessed 3 August 2014. 22 As defined by Sanjay R Singhal, the four (4) features which define a branch assembly are as follows: clear, present interweaving of

components; multiplicity of component species; multiplicity of component sizes; and visually contrasting component species colours,

bark, and textures. To this may be added the application of long, slender components supporting large, heavier ones, and/or the

stripping of leaves and twigs from the components, although these are not always observed. 23 Later review of my photographs has, in fact, suggested an artificial origin and/or composition; further analysis is required.

I returned down the bluff towards the gravelled path; I recall that I suddenly stopped, and turned around.

I was being watched.24 25 26

It was a strange, peculiar impression; I could not pinpoint its source, only that it was somewhere behind me,

lurking in the heavy, thick brush bordering the headland.27

I returned along the gravelled path to the carpark; as I came up past the rest-house, I observed two men coming

towards me. They seemed rather strange; I did not like the look of them. One was slightly younger than I; the

other appeared much older.

As they passed, I nodded and said good morning; the younger man did not respond.

The older man nodded, and said, “Good day for Bigfoot.” They continued on their way, as did I.

I turned around to speak to them; were they looking…?

I stopped, frozen, and stared.

The men were gone; there was no sign of them.28 I stood there for some time, looking wildly around; I did not

observe them, anywhere. I hurried back to the carpark, and stopped, when I came up to the Blueberry.

There were no other vehicles in the carpark.

I retrieved my car, and left the area.

Respectfully submitted,

FIELD REPORT 11.01.2015

SUMMARY

Substantiation of this Report may be provided by my own field work at Illinois Beach State Park, which began

in the summer of 201529 30 31 32 and which has now continued, at somewhat irregular intervals; further

investigations have been planned with Smith Jerrod, and others. Further substantiation may be provided by

published accounts on the BFRO website,33 and others;34 however, I am unaware of other persons conducting

research and/or field investigations in this area of Illinois.

The combination of physical, visual, audible and/or olfactory events described in this Report are as follows:

1. The observation of numerous large, human-like footprints on the beach, somewhat deteriorated but

clearly and visibly arranged in long, straight lines;

2. Ditto, presenting deeply impressed toes and heels;

3. Ditto, presenting enormous stride lengths;

4. Ditto, presenting a noticeable lack of turnout or straddle;

5. Ditto, presenting mid-tarsal breaks;

6. The enormous stride length of same, measured at ninety-three inches and three-quarters;

7. The small, triangular branch assembly on the bluff, composed primarily of driftwood;

8. The remarkable endurance of same, despite severe weather;

9. The sudden foul, unpleasant odour noticed near the headland, which dissipated quickly;

10. The possible branch assemblies observed on the bluff behind the headland.

These behaviours, and the history of my own experience(s),35 may be considered sufficient to suggest the

presence of EC36 at Illinois Beach State Park, in the autumn of 2015.

A number of subjective events also occurred. While these cannot be considered conclusive evidence, neither

should they be discounted. Although it is reasonable to review the impact of non-objective stimuli in this

Report, such effects, while personally quite vivid and at times overwhelming, are nonetheless nearly impossible

to substantiate with any measure of certainty.
