Para esta nueva versión de SANFIC INDUSTRIA, a realizarse entre el 20 y el 24 de agosto, el certamen seguirá desarrollando y potenciando este espacio con actividades que permiten el contacto e intercambio entre los diversos agentes de la industria audiovisual, incluyendo directores, productores, distribuidores, agentes de ventas, programadores de festivales nacionales e internacionales, representantes de fondos, entre otros. Esta séptima edición, realizada gracias al cofinanciamiento del Programa de Apoyo para la Realización de Encuentros Internacionales en Chile 2018 – 2019, del Fondo de Fomento Audiovisual, cuenta con importantes alianzas estratégicas a nivel nacional e internacional, tales como la Dirección de Asuntos Culturales del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Chile (DIRAC), la Comisión Fílmica de Chile (FCCh), el Festival de Málaga, Tribeca Film Institute, Sundance Film Festival, Industria del Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara, Blood Window, Embajada de Argentina en Chile, Corporación Pebre, LatamCinema, entre otros. For this new version of SANFIC INDUSTRIA, which will take place between August 20th and 24th, the event will continue to develop and promote this space with activities that will allow for the contact and exchange between the different agents in the audiovisual industry, including directors, producers, distributors, sales agents, local and international festival programmers, and fund representatives, among others. In this seventh edition, which can take place thanks to co-financing by the Support Program for the Organization of International Encounters in Chile 2018 – 2019, part of the Fund for Audiovisual Development, there are important national and international strategic alliances, including the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Relations’ Direction for Cultural Affairs (DIRAC), the Chilean Film Commission (FCCh), the Malaga Festival, Tribeca Film Institute, Sundance Film Festival, the Industry section at the Guadalajara International Film Festival, Blood Window, the Argentine Embassy in Chile, Pebre Corporation, LatamCinema, and others. Santiago LAB: Laboratorio de formación y fomento que reúne a participantes de toda Latinoamérica. Proyectos en desarrollo, tanto ficciones como documentales, se preparan para presentarse a un pitch ante un jurado compuesto por expertos internacionales, compitiendo por importantes incentivos para seguir desarrollando el proyecto. SANFIC NET: Espacio de mesas de negocios que tiene como objetivo ampliar las posibilidades de generar y lograr acuerdos en otros mercados más allá de nuestro país. SANFIC NET permite que los participantes tengan reuniones one to one y presenten sus proyectos a los invitados internacionales, así como también a programadores de festivales, representantes de fondos, agentes de ventas internacionales invitados a esta instancia. Premio Kinêma: Por cuarto año, la Comisión Fílmica de Chile (FCCh) es parte de este espacio que premia a aquellas obras exclusivamente chilenas o en coproducción internacional, que destaquen las potencialidades de Chile como locación cinematográfica. SANFIC INDUSTRIA Gastronomía: Por primera vez se desarrollará esta sección, organizada junto a la Corporación Pebre, que pretende ser el inicio de esta unión de cine y gastronomía en nuestro festival. En esta ocasión se incluirá una cena temática privada acompañada de la proyección de una película y una mesa redonda. A todo esto se suma un variado programa de actividades especiales que se realizan en el marco del espacio, tales como paneles, exposiciones y charlas dictadas por destacadas personalidades del quehacer cinematográfico nacional e internacional.

Santiago LAB: A laboratory for education and development bringing together participants from all Latin America. Projects in development, both fiction and documentary, will be pitched before a jury comprised by international experts, who will award important incentives that will allow the projects to continue their development. SANFIC NET: Negotiating tables with the aim of growing the possibilities local talents may have for generating and reaching agreements in other markets beyond our country. SANFIC NET allows participants to have one-on-one meetings and present their projects to our international guests, as well as festival programmers, fund representatives, and international sales agents that have been invited to this instance. Kinêma Award: For the fourth year running, the Chilean Film Commission (FCCh) will participate in this event that rewards works that are either exclusively Chilean or part of an international co-production, and which emphasize the potential Chile has as a cinematic location. SANFIC INDUSTRY Gastronomy: This section will take place for the first time, as organized alongside the Pebre Corporation, and it intends to be the beginning of this merger of film and gastronomy showcased at our festival. This time, the event will consist of a private, themed dinner that will take place while a movie is screened, followed by a roundtable discussion. To all of this we must add a widely assorted program filled with special activities that take place in this section’s context, such as panels, exhibitions and talks given by renowned personalities linked with the national and international film industries.

Crítico de cine y programador. Desde 2012 es el Director Artístico de la Semana de la Crítica del Festival de Cannes, donde anteriormente integró el comité de selección. Es Presidente de Cinémas du Monde (CNC-Institut Français). Ha sido crítico de cine en la legendaria Cahiers du cinéma (1979-2013) y ex editor de esta revista (1998-2003). También es profesor de cine, historia y estética, en la Universidad Sorbonne Nouvelle. Escribió varios libros y ensayos sobre cine, como Satyajit Ray, Luis Buñuel, Théâtre et cinéma y Akira Kurosawa.

He is a film critic and programmer. He has been the Artistic Director of the Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival, since 2012, where beforehand he was part of the selection committee. He has been President of the Cinémas du Monde (CNC-Institut Français). He was a critic in the legendary, Cahiers du cinéma (1979-2013) and is ex-editor of this magazine (1998-2003). He is also professor of cinema, history and esthetics at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University. The world of a young theatre director in a small Czech town crumbles after he decides to realize his dream - adapt an ambitious play based on Euripides’ Fedra. During rehearsals he gets involved with a young actress, puting his marriage at risk. The play is disgusting and his wife leaves him. Diana is a pregnant indigenous girl who lives on a hamlet by the Colombian-venezuelan border, with her husband Chevrolet and brother Jorge. They find supplies by mugging travelers who take shortcuts between the countries since the official road is closed. One day Chevrolet and Jorge get killed, and from there Diana faces adventures that test the resilient power of her wayuu femininity. She’ll learn to expand her borders to preserve her culture.

In a town called Lautaro, were you can see spaceships from unknown places, Claudina, a 70 years old women from the countryside, after the death of his husband begins to discover her sexuality and freedom through the love of another woman. Guaymas y Toño parecen ciudadanos ordinarios, pero los une un pasado común: ambos estuvieron presos en el Penal de Oblatos, Guadalajara, por participar en actividades de la Liga Comunista 23 de Septiembre, la guerrilla urbana más grande de México en los años 70. El 22 de enero de 1976, se fugaron en una compleja operación que dejó perplejas a las corporaciones policíacas. En este documental relatan cómo organizaron la fuga, por qué luchaban y por qué luchan ahora.

Guaymas and Toño are united by a common past: both were imprisoned in the Oblate Prison, Guadalajara, for participating in activities of the Communists League 23 de Septiembre, the largest urban guerrillas of Mexico in the 70’s. On January 22, 1976, they escaped in a complex operation that perplexed the police corporations. In this documentary they tell us how they organized the escape, why they were fighting and why they are fighting today.

Condors contemplates the mountain in search of carrion. Under the mountain sun, three women without signal on their mobiles try to fight boredom by inventing games. Cursó sus estudios en la Universidad Nacional de La Plata, especializándose en Comunicación Audiovisual. Actualmente es el Coordinador Artístico de Blood Window, Mercado de Cine Fantástico Latinoamericano, que se lleva a cabo en el mes de diciembre en el marco de Ventana Sur en la ciudad de Buenos Aires, Argentina. También se encuentra trabajando en la Gerencia de Asuntos Internacionales del Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales de Argentina, INCAA.

He studied at Universidad Nacional de La Plata, specializing in Audiovisual Communication. He is currently the Artistic Coordinator for Blood Window, Latin American Fantasy Film Market, which takes place every December within the context of Ventana Sur in the city of Buenos Aires. Participó en el Primer Foro de Coproducción Asturias - México en el Festival de Gijón y fue panelista en la mesa co-producción internacional en el Festival de Sao Paulo. Ha sido jurado en certámenes internacionales y producido eventos como WIP Latino en FICG, LéaLA 2 en Los Ángeles, “Cine Mujer en América Latina” y la muestra de cortometrajes “Cuéntame un corto”.

Slasher, terror psicológico, comedia negra, cine fantástico y gore, son los subgéneros de una película que recorre las 5 etapas fértiles de la mujer, desde los 13 a los 60 años, presentando a 5 protagonistas potentes que no son las clásicas Scream Queens ni las virginales Final Girls. Todas son agentes movilizadores de la trama. En 28, nadie es damisela en apuros, y muchas veces... ni siquiera la heroína.

28 (alluding to the female cycle) is an anthology of 5 short horror stories with directors and a cast of 5 corners of Latin America. Slasher, psychological terror, black comedy, fantastic cinema and gore, are the subgenres of a film that covers the five fertile stages of women, from 13 to 60 years, presenting 5 powerful protagonists that are not the classic Scream Queens or the virginal Final Girls. All are mobilizing agents of the plot. At 28, no one is a lady in distress, and many times... not even heroin.

After suffering a car accident in an isolated rural road, a couple finds shelter in a house inhabited by a sweet elderly woman who receives and looks after them. Nevertheless, as time passes, they will discover that they have fallen in the claws of the evil being that hides beneath the elderly woman’s skin, who will try to take away everything from them.

Guajiro leads the mortuary rituals in his town on the San Juan River. He has a commitment with the purgatory souls who asked him once to seek the place of his death. Guajiro embarks on a journey into the jungle, in the middle of an intense war, in which he must survive the weapons to rest in peace.

While people tell them to go back in the kitchen, they fight against social commandments as well as they empower as women.

Taxidermy is the art of naturalizing animals and making them appear alive. Miguel is a taxidermist and a hunter, and he fights to set up a museum for blind children, with some of the species he himself embalms. Thus, prejudice toward his trade is revealed, and the viewer must reflect on our relationship with animals.

Santiago visits the giant ombú tree in Villa Grimaldi where he used to play with his father. A picture at that spot indicates that Carlos Carrasco, a National Intelligence Direction agent, died there, beaten to death by his own colleagues. When he looks a little further into his past, Santiago will discover that, at the time, Carrasco was simultaneously performing counter-intelligence tasks for the Revolutionary Leftist Movement (MIR).

Este documental transita de la ciencia a la espiritualidad, por territorios áridos y exuberantes galaxias, expandiendo los límites de nuestra imaginación. Cazadores de planetas en observatorios astronómicos de Atacama y habitantes del desierto que se ganan la vida trabajando en la tierra y el mar, comparten sus miradas sobre las estrellas y planetas. Un poema de amor para el cielo nocturno, este largometraje transporta a un lugar tranquilo y calmo, en el que es posible detenerse a pensar sobre el infinito y lo desconocido.

This documentary travels between science and spirituality, through dry lands and exuberant galaxies, expanding the limits of our imagination. Planet hunters at astronomical observatories in Atacama and desert dwellers who make a living working with the ground and the sea all share their views on stars and planets. A love poem for the night sky, this feature film transports the viewer to a peaceful and calm place, from which it is possible to stop and think about the infinite and the unknown.

This documentary observes the human and morphological connection between two rivers, the Ganges in India and the Biobío in Chile. Following their streams, a mirror trick unites both civilizations, creating a poetic journey through the flow of one single river.

Marina es una joven mesera y aspirante a cantante. Orlando, 20 años mayor que ella, es dueño de una imprenta. Marina y Orlando están enamorados y planean un futuro juntos. Luego que Orlando muere repentinamente, Marina se ve obligada a enfrentar a su familia y a la sociedad, y a luchar nuevamente para demostrarles lo que ella es: compleja, fuerte, honesta, fantástica.

Marina is a young waiter and aspiring singer. Orlando, 20 years her senior, owns a printing house. Marina and Orlando are in love and are planning a future together. After Orlando’s sudden death, Marina is obligated to face his family and society; obligated to fight once again and prove who she is: a complex, strong, honest, fantastic woman.

Un escritor de artículos de farándula capitalina vuelve a su minúsculo pueblo natal en el extremo sur del mundo, después de 45 años de haber huido de allí para salvar su vida. En aquel lugar de la Patagonia chilena, donde árboles centenarios se levantan sobre tumbas abandonadas y el mar ebrio de lluvia oculta las raíces de los hombres, el escritor intentará desarrollar cuentos “vendibles” de esa zona de fin de mundo. Pero al hacerlo rodeado de sus viejos amigos, enfrentará su pasado y dejará su impostura.

A show business article writer in the big city returns to his minuscule hometown in the world’s deep south, after 45 years of having run away from the place in order to save his own life. There, in the Chilean Patagonia, where centenarian trees rise over abandoned graves and the rain-drunken sea hides the roots of men, the writer will attempt to develop “sellable” stories inspired by those end-of-the-world sights. But while doing it, surrounded by his old friends, he will have to face his past and leave behind his imposture.

El anciano encargado de una morgue posee una memoria perfecta para todo menos para los nombres. Estalla una protesta en una ciudad cercana y los militares intervienen la morgue. Cuando se van, él descubre el cuerpo de una joven desconocida. Evocando los recuerdos de sus propias pérdidas, el hombre de la morgue se embarca en una odisea mágica para darle un entierro digno con la ayuda de un sepulturero místico que colecciona historias de los muertos, una anciana que busca a su hija perdida hace mucho tiempo, y un conductor fúnebre atormentado por su pasado.

The old man in charge of a morgue has a perfect memory for everything except names. A protest erupts in a nearby city and military men invade the morgue. When they leave, he discovers the body of an unknown young woman. Evoking his own losses, the man in the morgue embarks in a magical odyssey to grant her a dignified burial with the assistance of a magical gravedigger who collects the stories of the dead, an old lady looking for her long lost daughter, and a hearse driver tormented by his past.

Después de la erupción, Cristóbal llega a Chaitén, su ciudad natal aún desconocida para él. Para conocerla, rescata a través de la fotografía los lugares destruidos que podrían haber sido su hogar. En este viaje conoce a Ana, una mujer fuerte que vive con María, su anciana madre enferma. A pesar de las insistencias de Ana, María rehúsa irse de su querido Chaitén aunque signifique la muerte. Juntos vivirán un intenso encuentro familiar, afrontando íntimos momentos de cambio. Un proyecto fotográfico que se hace realidad.

After a volcanic eruption, Cristóbal arrives in Chaitén, his hometown that still remains unknown to him. In order to get acquainted with the town, he uses photography to rescue the destroyed places that could have been his home. During this journey he meets Ana, a strong woman who lives with María, her sick, elderly mother. Despite Ana’s insistence, María refuses to leave her dear Chaitén even if it brings her death. Together they will experience an intense family meeting, facing intimate moments of change. A photographic project that becomes a reality.
